ILms
Co-Principal
Missy Mefford is in her first year as ILMS Co-Principal for
Instruction after teaching 6 grade special education for 3 years. Her duties include working with teachers
to make sure they have materials they need and keeping the staff up to date on state standards and
requirements. She says, “ I like the interaction with all the teachers that I get to have now.”
th
Mefford grew up near West Chester and took a leave from her studies at Miami University to join the
Army. She served for 3 years at Fort Riley, Kansas, as a track vehicle repair specialist. She fixed anything
with wheels or tracks, but specialized in repairs on M1A1 Abrams tanks. After serving, she finished her
degree, then taught special ed and coached volleyball for 7 years at Edgewood High School in Trenton before
moving to Indian Lake. She says moving here was “the best thing for her family!”
Mefford and her husband, Darren, have three kids-Cole (16), Lane (13) and Paige (11).
Mefford doesn’t have much free time, but outside of school she
likes to make crafts out of “junk.” She and her family have a
craft booth at the Indian Lake State Park Festival every fall.
And get this…she also loves to skydive! She won a jump as a prize
for a fundraiser at her former school and has been hooked
(or unhooked) ever since. See the picture to the right for proof!
This is from a newspaper article detailing her win and her first
ever experience jumping out of an airplane.
