School Photos
Congratulations to all students for the mature
approach they displayed last week during the school
photos on Monday. We look forward to having the final
products printed and distributed as soon as the company can do so. The uniform compliance on the day
was almost 100%. Our boys looked sensational, more
importantly, their behaviour was exceptional.
Year 7 Camp
From the Principal
The annual Year 7 Camp is not far away. In fact,
in less than one week our Year 7 students will be
enjoying new learning experiences in a camp setting.
For all students, this is a worthwhile and extremely
fulfilling experience. The Year 7 students always
report that one of the highlights of their school
year is the Year 7 camp. I urge all parents and carers to ensure their
son participates in this valuable learning experience with students
he is, more than likely, going to spend the next 6 years alongside.
Open Night
Congratulations to the entire school community for an outstanding Open Night last Tuesday. The feedback from prospective parents
and students is extremely encouraging and supportive of what we are
doing at Randwick Boys’ High School. We had a very large number
of families come and have a look at what we do and how we do it.
Every comment from our visitors was positive. It is a credit to our
current students, staff and parent body that such positive feedback
is spreading in the community. One thing that was mentioned regularly were the new standards, expectations and uniform compliance.
With most students now wearing their whole school uniform with
pride, including their black leather lace up school shoes, the local
community is taking notice. I would like to thank all families and
especially our students, for understanding WHY we are implementing the compliance with uniform. This is where we are starting, with
how we look. It is not where we will finish. Behaviour, standards,
expectations, curriculum and what it means to be a ‘Randwick Boy’
are also being reviewed in 2016 and beyond. We have raised the bar
of what is accepted and we will continue to do so. A huge thank you
to all students, staff and parents who contributed to the success of
the evening, especially Mrs M Olsen, Head Teacher CAPA, who
coordinated the event.

Study Skills Reminder
Seminar for the parents on Tuesday 22/3/16 from 7pm
to 8pm in the library
Elevate Education is Australia’s largest provider of study skills
programs to Australian secondary schools, working annually with
over 500 schools and 70,000 students. Elevate Education has been
working side by side with Randwick Boys’ High School throughout
2015 for Year 10, 11 and 12. In 2016, we have implemented the program
for all years in order to provide RBHS students with the best strategies and techniques for their studying regiments. The Study skills
program is working together with students, parents and teachers to
ensure reinforcement in the classroom and at home. This seminar
will have a main emphasis on the year 11 and 12 skills, however,
everyone is welcome!
Garden Working Bee
Seeking interested families for garden working bees (no
green thumb required!)
If you would like to be involved in maintaining and
improving the grounds of the school this year please email
your contact details to sarah@groweatenjoy.com.au. We
have a couple of projects in mind starting with an irrigated
lilli pilli hedge along the Avoca St boundary. This will
hopefully reduce traffic noise, increase air quality and
biodiversity as well as improving the overall appearance
of the school grounds.
We hope to see you all there!!

Geography Fieldwork in Bate Bay
On Friday 04 March, Year 12 Geography travelled south of Sydney
to Bate Bay, which includes beaches Cronulla, Wanda and Elouera, to
conduct observations and various recording methods of fieldwork.
We learnt about the beach’s topography, vegetation structures and
changing ecosystems due to human impacts. The excursion included
field sketches, replicating sand dunes via modelling, testing against
the elements, photographs and exploring the dune ecosystem using
the transect method. The excursion was a great success and an overall fantastic experience which educated the class on management
strategies enabling the restoration of coastal dunes and why they are
classified as an ecosystem at risk. This is a great case study resource
for our HSC and has facilitated us in becoming active citizens in our
local community for the future.

Biology Fieldtrip to La Perouse
On Thursday 18 February a group of 38 Year 11 Biology students,
escorted by their teachers, Ms Edwards and Mr K Brown, completed
a compulsory Local Ecosystem Field Trip to La Perouse. The students were required to understand the living (biotic) and non-living
(abiotic) factors that can influence the health of ecosystems. The
measurements and discussions from the day helped to contribute
to the field trip assessment report due this week.
We were lucky enough to have beautiful weather for the day and
these fine young men were keenly engaged with exploring the living
world and the interactions and inter-relationships between organisms
within the local ecosystem being studied. Well done Year 11 Biology.

Man of the Match Tally
The Winter Season Man of the Match Tally commences in two
weeks after the final week of trials.
Grade Sport Trials - Randwick Boys’ High
School set for a Great Winter Season
With only 2 more weeks of the grade sport trials left, coaches are
starting to finalise their team selections and team lists will be placed
on the sport notice board next week.
Randwick Boys’ High School will have more grade teams representing the school in 2016 than any other year. Our school will be
represented in the Northwest Metropolitan Zone with six soccer
teams and four rugby teams, a hockey team as well as a lawn bowls
team and four table tennis teams among them.
Students who have not been successful, for the grade sport of their
choice, are quite welcome to put their hands up for another grade
sport which requires more players or a house or recreational sport.
