Conducted under the auspices of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the conference was held at the Holiday Inn Sunspree in Montego Bay, Jamaica, from 13-17th April 2015. “THE WOMEN IN MARITIME ASSOCIATION, CARIBBEAN, WILL JOIN THE EXISTING REGIONAL GROUPS IN FURTHERING THE OBJECTIVES OF IMO’S 1988 STRATEGY, WHILE PROMOTING THE CONTINUED EDUCATION AND TRAINING OF WOMEN IN THE MARITIME SECTOR …” REGIONAL CONFERENCE ON THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A WOMEN IN MARITIME ASSOCIATION, CARIBBEAN Page 3 Conference Kick-off T he conference com- Mrs. Sharon FolkesAbraham, Minister of State Ministry of Industry, Investment & Commerce, Jamaica menced with an official opening, which included a Parade of National Flags, and addresses and remarks delivered by several high ranking Female Government officials including Mrs. Sharon Folkes-Abraham, Minister of State in the Ministry of Industry, Investment & Commerce; Mrs. Audrey Sewell, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Transport, Works & Housing. Senator the Honorable Sandrea Falconer, Minister without Portfolio in the Office of the Prime Minister, delivered the keynote address. The conference was presided over by IMO’s Senior Deputy Director, Mrs. Pamela Tansey, who also addressed the delegates at the opening. Rear Admiral Peter Brady Director General of the Maritime Authority of Jamaica, and a lead advocate for the initiative, was the Master of Cere- Rear Admiral Peter Brady, Director General of the Maritime Authority of Jamaica, monies and Master of Ceremonies remained at the conference as an observer. Caribbean Regional Director and Programme Manager for the Commonwealth Secretariat, Commonwealth Youth Programme (CYP), Ms. Dwynette Eversley, who spoke on Perspectives On The Establishment Of A Code Of Good Practice For Gender Mainstreaming In The Maritime Sector. Trinidad’s delegation was lead by Mrs Verna Johnson, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Transport, and comprised the Director Maritime Services Ms Beverly Phillip, Marine Pilot Ann-Marie Chapman, Consultant and former Deputy Director MSD, current and now Ag.
