Upon President’s directives Mohammed bin
Zayed orders dispatching of relief plane to Libya
Al Ain Times News / Wam:
His Highness General Sheikh
Mohammed bin Zayed Al
Nahyan, Crown Prince of
Abu Dhabi and Deputy
Supreme Commander of
the UAE Armed Forces has
ordered relief plane, carrying
urgent medical aid to the
Libyan people to ease their
suffering.
The move follows the
directives by President His
Highness Sheikh Khalifa
bin Zayed Al Nahyan to
support the Libyan people
in the wake of recent events
witnessed by the country.
The relief plane has arrived
at Tripoli Airport, carrying
huge quantities of medicines,
medical devices and three
ambulances, which were
immediately allocated for
Sabha
Hospital,
which
suffers
acute
medical
shortages.
The shipment was prepared
in accordance with the actual
medical needs of the health
sector in Libya amid great
challenges being faced by
the Sabha Hospital, which is
admitting great numbers of
patients following the recent
incidents there.
UAE Red Crescent Authority
(RCA) delegation headed by
Dr Saleh Al Tayie, Acting
Deputy Secretary General for
the Relief and Projects has
arrived in Libya to assess the
humanitarian situation there.
The delegation will also
meet a number of officials to
assess future needs and look
closely into the humanitarian
situation of the Libyan
people in general.
Upon the arrival, the
delegation met a number
of health authorities in the
Sabha Hospital and officials
of the Libyan Red Society to
establish coordination on the
delivery of humanitarian and
medical aid.
The RCA is closely follows
up
the
humanitarian
developments
in
Libya
to
ease
suffering
of
Libyans through continues
programmes.
Dr Tayie said the RCA
with the follow up by H.
H. Sheikh Hamdan bin
Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s

with partners are required
to provide the humanitarian
services that match the
current
humanitarian
challenges in Libya.
For his part, Abdullah Al
Shuhaidi, Assistant Secretary
General of the Libyan Red
Crescent Society thanked
the RCA for its humanitarian
assistance, adding that the
RCA programmes have
positive impact in Libyans
who cherish the stance of the
UAE people. He cited the
legacy of late Sheikh Zayed
bin Sultan Al Nahyan that
planted in the UAE people
the self denial and readiness
to provide humanitarian aid
irrespective of gender, race,
or religion.
New research finds UAE Population 20,000,000 in 2020!!
Al Ain will be inhibited by 5,000,000 people!
Ramadan Ben Amer:
In a recent research study
by ABC Media PR for
publicity and research,
an Alpha Beta Publishers
and Media Consultants
Company which publishes
the bilingual newspaper
“Al Ain Times News”,
it was revealed that the
population of the United
Arab Emirates will reach
the stunningly high number
of 20 million people by
the year 2020. And the
number of people leaving
in Al Ain city will be in the
vicinity of 5 million people
or about 25% percent of
the total population of the
United Arab Emirates of
approximately 20 million
as estimated in the most
recent survey compiled by
ABC Media PR.
The study was based on
the fact that the United
Arab Emirates is now
inhabited by about 4 to 5
million people with the
number of UAE citizens of
approximately 1 million.
This means that in 10 years
from now or by the year
2020, the population will
multiply 4 to 5 times to
reach 16 to 25 million. By
taking the law of averages
this will result in slightly
above 20 million people
living in the UAE ((16 +
25) /2 = 20.5 million).
It was also mentioned in
this unique and one- of- itskind study that these results
were based on the fact that
the current population of the
United Arab Emirates now
is about 5 million people,
½ of which are of female
gender. Each couple can
produce at least one child
per year ( i.e. 10 children
for each couple during
the 10 years period). By
simple calculations, with
the assumption that about
5 million people will die
in the same length of time
(i.e. in the next 10 years),
the final findings were
calculated to ((2.5 million
couples x 1 child per year
x 10 years) – 5 million = 20
million).
The study also shows that
the number of the UAE
citizens will reach beyond
10 million as the local
UAE
citizens
average
will increase to 50% of
the total population in
UAE. Moreover; the total
population in Al Ain, locals
and expatriates, will
be about 25% of the
total people inhibiting
the UAE ( i.e. ¼ of 20
million = 5 million).
Important Note: This
study is full of rubbish
assumptions neglecting
the
main
rules

People must try to save energy
at all times, UAE Paper
Al Ain Times News/Wam:
Like much of the rest of the
world, the UAE observed Earth
Hour last night, with many
residents switching off all nonessential electrical appliances
between 8.30pm and 9.30pm.
In Dubai, residents saved
204,000 kilowatt hours during
Earth Hour 2011. This year’s
target was to save 230,000
kilowatt hours.
According to the World
Wildlife Fund, which organises
the event, more than 5,200
cities and towns in 135
countries worldwide switched
off their lights for Earth Hour
2011. “Any initiative that
brings together people around
the world for a good cause is
to be celebrated, regardless
of what it actually achieves”,

Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture to present Treasures of the World’s Cultures Exhibition
Al Ain Times New / Wams:
Abu Dhabi Tourism ‘&’
Culture Authority, is to present
Treasures of the World’s
Cultures,
an
exhibition
in collaboration with the
British Museum, featuring
regional loans from Al Ain
National Museum and Sharjah
Archeology Museum.
The exhibition tells the story
of more than two million years
of human life through some of
the world’s most magnificent
objects at the Saadiyat Cultural
District.
From paintings that reflect
the rich and varied traditions
of Islamic art and tools made
in East Africa during the Old
Stone Age to masterpieces
from Renaissance Europe, the
exhibition which will run from
18 April until 17 July, explores
the varied interpretations of
treasure’. Featuring examples
of buried treasure’ and recent
artworks from around the
world, the exhibition connects
historical and modern cultural
perspectives through one visual
experience.
“This exhibition shares an
underlying theme with Abu
Dhabi’s cultural ambitions
as both embody the desire to
safe keep treasures of the past,
for the present and the future.
This guardianship of ambitious
cultural undertakings will
also be reflected in the worldclass institutions planned for
Saadiyat including the Zayed
National Museum, Louvre
Abu Dhabi and Guggenheim
Abu Dhabi,” said Sheikh
Sultan bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan,
Chairman, Abu Dhabi Tourism
‘&’ Culture Authority.
Treasures of the World’s
Cultures is the second of a
series of exhibitions in the
lead up to the opening of the
Zayed National Museum and
follows last year’s Splendours
of Mesopotamia, also staged
in collaboration with the
British Museum, which gave
prominence to the Middle
East as the birth place of
civilisation and the deep
history of the region. Treasures
of the World’s Cultures leads
visitors to the broad horizon
of world heritage through
more than 250 exceptional
objects, highlighting many
universal themes that will
also be explored in the Zayed
National Museum, where
galleries will tell the story of
the region’s history and the
unification of the United Arab
Emirates through the life of the
late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan
Al Nahyan, father of the nation
and its continual source of
inspiration.
The exhibition starts with
the beginning of human
existence, in Africa, at a
time when survival, success,
status and relationships first
began to depend on material
things. Objects began to have
meanings and significance
beyond their usefulness and
beautiful things started to
inspire and define people. The
importance of material culture
in global societies is witnessed
in the succeeding galleries as
visitors go on a journey through
the Middle East, Europe, Asia,
Oceania, and the Americas.
The exhibition culminates
with objects from the Modern
World.
Treasures of the World’s
Cultures will be the fifth
exhibition held at Manarat
Al Saadiyat which opened
in 2009 and has welcomed
approximately 200,000 visitors
to date. The exhibition will be
open from 10am to 8pm daily.

ADM urges hair ‘&’ beauty salons to
strictly comply with health standards
Al Ain Times News:
The Municipality of Abu Dhabi
City has urged hair and beauty
salons to strictly adhere with
health standards.
The Municipality recently
participated in an Open
Day Forum for male ‘&’
female salons ‘&’ beauty
centers, organized by Ajman
Municipality
featuring
participation of 300 hair
‘&’ beauty salons as well as
municipal health officials
with a view to raising the
awareness about the public
health ‘&’ safety stipulations
in these salons, acquainting
the attendants with contagious
diseases communicable via
tools ‘&’ equipment in use,
and the preventive methods
to be taken. Commenting on
the event, Khalifa Mohammed
Al Rumaithi, Director of
Public Health, Municipality
of Abu Dhabi City, said:
“The Forum reviewed the
health stipulations ought to
be observed in salons to avoid
communicating diseases either
through using unhealthy tools,
barbers themselves contracting
contagious diseases, or failure
to sanitize health tools used in
hair-cutting, hair dryers, and
hair dying among other.
He called upon all male ‘&’
female hair-dressing salons
and beauty parlours in Abu
Dhabi to adhere to the health
standards governing such
activities as they would
have a direct bearing on the
community health.
He reiterated the Municipality’s
keen attention on maintaining
a continuous monitoring of
these centers by subjecting
them to regular watch, and
intensifying surveillance ‘&’
inspection campaigns under a
well-rehearsed methodology
covering all centers to verify
their compliance with the
governing
hygiene
and
sanitation stipulations as per
the requirements of public
health and safety of community
members.
He added that during the
Forum, the Public Health
Division, Municipality of
Abu Dhabi City, was keen
on providing and distributing
the Black Henna booklet to
the public. The Division also
discussed the Black Henna and
its adverse impacts on human
health and skin.
At the end of the Forum,
the organizers honored the
Municipality of Abu Dhabi
City in recognition of its
excellent efforts in perpetuating
the standards of public health
and protecting the safety of the
community.
Female Facial Freaks!
For
Normal/combination
skin, mix one egg and 1/2
cup cooked instant oatmeal
and a teaspoon olive oil until
smooth. Spread on your face
and leave 15 minutes, and then
rinse.
For dry skin, mix one egg
yolk, one teaspoon honey, a
teaspoon olive oil, and some
vitamin E oil, if you have it.
Smooth on and leave on for
15 minutes. Then rinse in
lukewarm water and pat dry.
If your skin is a bit dry you
can put a dab or two of either
olive oil or any other light oil
(or plain Crisco ®, if you want
something heavier) on your
moist skin after washing or
a mask, and your face is set
without the $$ some people
spend for the same look.

soap. You can open
your pores with
hot
compresses
(washcloth). For a
facial scrub, moisten
oatmeal to a “goo”,
and use it to scrub
your face (not around
your eyes). Wash off
with cool water. You
may also make a
paste of the oatmeal
and allow it to dry;
remove with cool
water. You may also
beat an egg white,
put it on your face
and let it dry, and
then rinse with cool
water. Sliced fresh
cucumber placed on
your closed eyes will
reduce
bagginess
and dark circles. To
make your hair shine, rub in
some regular mayonnaise and
shampoo out after 15 minutes.
Honey for Best Facial
The best facial mask that I
have found is honey. Use a
warm cloth to open pores,
smear on the honey, leave on
15 to 30 minutes, rinse off
with warm water, and then
use cold water to close pores.
Use for 3 days in a row and
then once a week. Sometimes
The trend for autumn / winter
2010 is all about dressing
the female form to maximize
curves and whether you have
readymade curves or you need
a little help from those clever
designers, there will be clothes
that suit you and get you
noticed for all the right reasons.
but warm, this harking back to
the days of Marilyn Monroe is
the perfect solution. Team maxi
skirts with thick tights and
baby doll t-bar shoes for a cute
but practical look that will look
great in the office or nursing
a cup of coffee on an autumn
afternoon.
2. The trick to working any
new season’s trends is to focus
on buying a few key pieces
and integrating them into your
basics wardrobe. Going all out
on a fashion can make you look
like you’re trying too hard and
can create a contrived look that
looks more like costume than
fashion.
5.
Accessorise
cleverly
whatever the fashion is and in
this 1950s autumn winter trend,
it’s all about accessorising the
feet with cute little ankle socks
in pastel colours which create
that 1950s daily look which can
be worn by just about anyone.
3. This season’s key pieces
are wrap waited belts in soft
tan, brown and black leathers
which are absolutely perfect
for creating curves where there
are none or emphasizing tiny
waists. These can be combined
with plain t-shirts and full maxi
skirts in flirty floral patterns or
lace and mesh for a hippy take
on the 1950s fashion.
4. 1950s drama is where it is at
for this autumn winter, so when
the weather turns cold and wet
and you want to stay feminine
6. The biggest mistake
many people make is to buy
fashionable items just because
they think they should and
not because they suit them, so
choose between the on trend
colours of a season and the
shapes and silhouettes the key
pieces create. This season it’s
all about classic camel and
deep purples, aubergines and
violet, as well as glamorous
metallics and pastel coloured
faded florals when it comes to
colour and it’s all about nipped
in waists and voluptuous,
dramatic curves when it comes
to shape.
8. Mix plains with patterns and
different materials this season,
choose a floral maxi skirt and
team with a plain women’s
crop top in nude, beige, camel
or navy and instantly transform
your style from spring /
summer to autumn / winter.
Also look out for mesh and
lace combinations as well as
sheer and opaque fabrics to
build texture and emphasise
your best assets.

street by following our tips

eligible for UAE citizenship
when they attain the age of

Exfoliating Mask
For an easy exfoliating mask,
mix three tablespoons olive

Municipality of Abu Dhabi City Inspires Thousands in the Capital during Earth Hour
Public joined hands with the official coordinator to celebrate Earth Hour
Al Ain Times New:
In
an
inspiring
event
organized by the Municipality
of Abu Dhabi City on Sahel al
Maydan beach, thousands of
inhabitants came out in show
of support for a sustainable
living to mark Earth Hour on
Saturday the 31st of March.
The residents of Abu Dhabi
and
partner
institutions
showed full solidarity to
safeguard the environment and
started on the road to fulfilling
their commitment towards
sustainability by showing up
in the thousands to celebrate
this global annual event.
This year’s Earth Hour theme
of going beyond the call to
action resonated particularly
well in the Emirate of Abu
Dhabi. Residents turned up
to the event equipped with
recyclable materials including
plastic, paper and aluminum.
In addition to ADM HQ
and branches , most of the
nation’s iconic buildings and
Landmarks including Emirates
Palace Hotel, Yas Hotel, Zayed
Sports City, Shaikh Zayed
Bridge and Shaikh Zayed
Grand Mosque switched off
their external facade lighting
for the hour. The surrounding
businesses along the beach
also observed the hour as
thousands congregated with
candles and glow sticks
illuminating the area.
The highlight of the evening
came when the striking bike
of Abu Dhabi Police “Al
Saqer” led a 60-bikes rally
in celebration of the Earth
Hour. Bikers assembled at
the Marina Mall at 05:30 pm
and distributed awareness
brochures highlighting the
importance of the Earth Hour
with a view to promoting the
culture of conservation and
shunning the wastage among
the public. Led by Al Saqer
driven by Captain Ahmed
bin Mohammed bin Hadi,
the motorbikes rally then
moved from the parking of the
Marina Mall at the Corniche
Street heading towards to
Al Khalidiya Mall. At the
designated stops, bikers gave
briefings about the festivity
and distributed leaflets to raise
the environmental awareness,
and urge the public to take part
in this global event. The Rally
arrived its final destination in
Al Sahil Maidan. Afterwards
bikers switched off lights at
the Zero Hour .
Ali Makki, who is one of
the volunteer bikers and
organizers of the rally, said:
“This sort of participation

Sheikh Hamed opens Burjeel Hospital in Abu Dhabi
Al Ain Times News/Wam:
H.H. Sheikh Hamed bin
Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman
of Crown Prince’s Court, has
stated that “the healthcare
sector is a top priority for
President His Highness Sheikh
Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan,
and the UAE leadership is
committed to providing the
best healthcare services in the
country. We will continue to
create the right environment to
attract more investments in the
different economic sectors, in
general, and in the healthcare
sector, in particular.” This
statement came during the
inauguration of the Burjeel
Hospital,
a
pioneering
healthcare
and
wellness
facility in Abu Dhabi. Burjeel
is the first of its kind in the
region to offer advanced and
world-class services across
specialisations, combining the
best personnel, equipment,
technologies and specialized
integrated services.
During his visit, Sheikh
Hamed inspected the various
treatment facilities at Burjeel
Hospital, including the dental
clinic, diagnostic imaging
centre,
operating
rooms,
neonatal ICU, Royal Suite,
paediatric clinic and fitness
centre. The hospital, on an area
of over 70,000 square metres,
will offer more than 200-beds
and provide the entire range of
specialised healthcare services,
including a state-of-the-art
surgery department, capable
of delivering comprehensive
treatment.
“The idea for Burjeel Hospital
was born out of the vision of
Abu Dhabi to become amongst
the most advanced centres
for healthcare services in the
region,” said Dr Shamsheer
VP,
Managing
Director.
“Burjeel has been envisaged
as a truly international
medical facility that will
offer cutting edge healthcare
services, administered by
some of the finest medical
expertise available.” With
its state-of-the-art facilities
and infrastructure and use of
latest technology, Burjeel is
set to provide a big boost to
the UAE’s medical tourism
industry. The country has
immense potential to become
a leading player in the region
in this segment considering its
emphasis on high-end tertiary
care.
“At Burjeel, our outstanding
healthcare
services
are
complemented by a healing
touch, which is rare to find in
today’s fast-paced world. We
understand the region and its
requirements, and our medical
infrastructure is capable of
giving a new dimension to
medical tourism in the UAE,”
said Dr Shamsheer.

Mafraq Hospital pioneers surgery
for urinary tract cancer
Al Ain Times News/Wam:
The surgeons from Mafraq
Hospital,
owned
and
operated by the Abu Dhabi
Health Services Company
(SEHA), have performed
a successful reconstructive
surgery on a male patient
suffering from advanced
cancer of the urinary
bladder.
The patient came to Mafraq
Hospital with a cancerous
tumour in his bladder. The
tumour took up 60% of his
bladder. The team, led by
Dr Mohsen El Mekresh,
Consultant
and
Chief
of Urology and Chair
of Surgery, performed a
radical cystectomy and
removed out the bladder,
prostrate, seminal vesicles,
lower ureters and draining
pelvic lymph nodes and
then conducted surgery to
reconstruct a new bladder.
Dr El Mekresh said: The
patient came to us suffering
from severe pain and blood
clots in his urine. Our tests
showed that a large tumour
occupied 60% of his bladder,
Further tests showed the
cancer had not spread into
other parts of his body.
Usually, following a radical
cystectomy, the urine will
have to find another way
to get out of the body and
would be stored in a pouch
or bag outside of the body
which can be manually
emptied. We created a new
bladder for the patient using
40cm of his small intestine
anastomosed in one side to
the ureters and distally to
the urethra. This means the
patient can urinate normally
and does not need a
urostomy bag.’ A urostomy
bag
causes
patients’
embarrassment and can
make them uncomfortable
in social situations. Dr
Mohsen’s procedure means
that this patient can look
forward to living a normal,
social life.
Mafraq Hospital has also
set up the only Uro Cancer
Centre in Abu Dhabi,’
added Dr El Mekresh. As
well as helping patients we
have operated on, we want
to improve the awareness
in the region about uro
cancers and prostate cancer.
Early screening reduces the
severity of prostate cancer
and should be a vital part
of people’s health tests.’
“Performing cutting edge
surgeries such as this one,
and recognizing a need in
the market for a center such
as the Uro Cancer one, are
in keeping with our mission
to continually meet the
needs of our community
and provide health care of
a recognized international
standard.” commented Dr.
Mohammad Yaman, Chief
Medical Officer, Mafraq
Hospital.
Hospital, said: “In addition
to the sense of hospitality
that the Hospital reflects, the
Burjeel Hospital is all about
sophistication. At Burjeel, we
have the right mix of medical
expertise, technology and
wellness infrastructure to
offer patients in the UAE a
truly international healthcare
environment.” Burjeel Hospital
will be fully functional in
a phased manner in the
coming months. Currently it
has begun operations of its
Out Patient Services which
includes consultations in
different specialties, dental
services, specimen testing and
diagnostic imaging.
The services launched today
also
include
Out-Patient
Department Clinics offering
family medicine, paediatric,
vascular surgery, general
surgery (consultation only)
and nephrology. More clinics
are set to open in the coming
weeks.
Burjeel Hospital marks an
important milestone in the
UAE’s healthcare sector. With
the opening of the hospital,
patients
who
previously
needed to travel abroad looking
for high quality healthcare, can
find it right here in the UAE.
The hospital has been designed
to
combine
high-quality
medical technology with top-
of-the-line facilities. Burjeel
has established centres of
excellence in association with
the world’s best health service
providers. These centres of
excellence will bring together
highly accredited medical
experts across almost all
specialisations. Additionally,
each department within the
hospital offers an aesthetic
ambience to put patients at
ease.
Powerful Pomegranate
Al Ain Times News:
Pomegranates are a super
food full of cancer-fighting
antioxidants.
Pomegranate
health benefits range beyond
fighting cancer, however,
aiding the whole body. Recent
studies reveal that eating this
pulp and consuming other
pomegranate products can
contribute
immensely
to
good health. The human body
contains free radicals, which
are unstable molecules that
can damage DNA and cell
membranes. This most often
leads to cancer and other
diseases such as Alzheimer’s.
Antioxidants fight these free
radicals and prevent these
diseases. Eating pomegranates,
which contain antioxidants
such as polyphenols, tannins
and anthocyanins, can therefore
lower a person’s risk of cancer,
Alzheimer’s and premature
aging.
They prevent heart disease
and lowering blood pressure
and the risk of stroke. They
also lower the bad kind of
cholesterol (LDL) in the body.
Consuming pomegranates or
pomegranate products also
reduces dental plaque buildup, which helps decrease
the chance of bad breath and
gum disease. In addition to
antioxidants,
pomegranates
contain an element that combats
the enzyme that eats away at
cartilage. This delays the onset
of osteoarthritis. The fruit also
contains
anti-inflammatory
qualities which would treat
the disease after onset. Recent
studies also should that eating
pomegranates can increase
libido in both men and women.
Pomegranates fight dental
plaque. Pomegranate extract
removes the plaque that causes
the bacteria that leads to gum

These clinical findings clearly
show a correlation between
pomegranate
compounds
and their positive effect
on both human and animal
cardiovascular, nervous, and
skeletal health. This is one fruit
that you can’t afford to exclude
from your diet!
