To All Members of the All United States Kendo Federation (AUSKF):
The Dallas-Fort Worth Kendo and iaido Kyokai (DFWKIK) is honored to host the
2016 AUSKF National Iaido Summer Camp, the All United States Iaido
Championships and Jodo Workshop from June 23, 2016 to June 27, 2016 at the
Sportsplex in Dallas, Texas.
Our Guest Instructors this year are Teruo Mitani Sensei, Iaido Hanshi 8 Dan,
from Kouchi, Japan and Masato Nakamura Sensei, Iaido Kyoshi 8 Dan, from
Ishikawa, Japan. Mitani Sensei was one of the instructors at the 2013 Iaido
Camp, and Nakamura Sensei has been with us since 2014.
Enclosed please find a packet of information that may be distributed to any
interested individuals. This same information will also be available via the official
2016 AUSKF Iaido Summer Camp Facebook Group site. Please visit

This year, registration for the seminar, taikai, and meal selections will be
conducted online ONLY via the following link:

Once you are at the site, simply follow the instructions, print out your confirmation
at the end of the process and send the printed confirmation together with a check
for the designated amount payable to DFWKIK to the camp mailing address:

Online registration must be completed and payments and forms must be
received at the camp mailing address by Friday, June 3rd.
Shinsa forms and test questions will also be available on the registration site for
download and submission via a separate process detailed below. Candidates
seeking ranks up to 6 Dan are eligible to test but must have permission from their
instructor and the president of their regional Kendo Federation. Members of nonU.S. federations may also test with the signature of their national Kendo
Federation president.
1 Please note that registrants are responsible for their own ground transportation
while in Dallas. Hotel information may be found in the accompanying materials.

4 Camp Registration Procedure
Camp participants are required to register online at the following registration site:

You will be asked to enter required information, make daily lunch and Saturday
dinner banquet selections, and submit an electronic waiver.
At the end of the process, you will be asked to print out a confirmation page.
Please send a copy of that page and a check payable to DFWKIK for the
designated amount to:

Deadline: Online registration must be completed in time so that payments and
written materials are received at the camp mailing address by Friday, June 3rd.
NO applications will be accepted nor refunds provided after the final cutoff date
of Friday, June 10, 2016.
Shinsa Appiication Requirements
Candidates may apply to test for rank up to and including 6 Dan. Candidates
must complete or provide ALL of the following prior to the examination:
• AUSKF membership or membership in another kendo federation recognized by
FIK.
• Completed shinsa application form, available by download from the registration
website. Please note that there are Exemption from sitting waza must
be explained and be accompanied with a doctor’s letter.
• Submission of online Waiver of Liability form
• Permission from iaido Instructor
• Permission from applicant’s Regional Kendo Federation president (or National
Kendo Federation president for non-US members)
• A copy of applicant’s current iaido menjo (rank certificate), uploaded via the
registration site or sent to Parker sensei at the address below.
5 • Written test answers, if applicable. Test questions may be found with the
application forms on the registration website.
• Separate check for menjo fee: Menjo fee will be refunded if shinsa is not
passed, but only if a separate check is provided. New menjo will be
mailed to each successful candidate’s instructor following the completion
of the shinsa.
• Deadline for receipt of shinsa applications is June 3, 2016. Any shinsa
application forms arriving after the final cut-off date of June 10, 2016
will NOT be accepted.
• All decisions of the examining board are final.
Shinsa Application Procedure
Shinsa application forms and test questions are available on the registration
website for download and printing. PLEASE NOTE that there are two
applications forms. One is for Kyu ranks to 3 Dan; another is for 4 Dan to 6 Dan.
Please fill out the appropriate form for the rank you are requesting.
There is a button on the registration site’s personal information page that will
allow you to upload an image of your current menjo, if you have iaido rank. If you
are unable to upload an image, send a copy of your current menjo to Parker
sensei at the address below.
If you indicate during the registration process that you will be testing, the shinsa
testing fee ($50) will be automatically added to your seminar fees and made part
of the amount you will send to the Dallas camp address. However, your shinsa
application form and menjo check must be sent to Parker sensei directly.
Once you have printed and filled out the appropriate shinsa application form,
make out a separate check for the appropriate menjo fee made payable to All
United States Kendo Federation (do not abbreviate) and send them both to
Parker Sensei at the following address so that they are received by the June 3rd
deadline:

1) Appropriate Application Form for the rank you are seeking
2) Separate check for menjo fee (see menjo fee schedule above)
3) A copy of your current menjo (if you have iaido rank) and were unable to
upload an image of your menjo via the registration website.
4) Answers to test questions may be sent to Parker sensei via email at
pam_a_parker@yahoo.com or printed copies may be submitted to Parker
sensei at the seminar.

2016 Iaido Taikai Rules
Eligibility: All participants must attend the iaido seminar to compete.
Nafuda (name tag): All participants must have a nafuda (name tag) for their
uniform. The nafuda must include English name, not just Japanese.
Sword Check: All participants must submit their swords for a sword check prior
to start of the taikai.
Attire: Gi and hakama must be of the same color: black on black, white on
white, blue on blue.
ZenKenRen Iaido Kata: Chosen by the instructors and posted on taikai day.
Koryu Kata:
Chosen by the participant
Match time limit:
Six minutes, all divisions
Match decisions: All matches are determined by hantei (judges decision)
All decisions of the referees and judges are final.
Awards:
1st place, 2nd place, two 3rd place, and Kantosho (Fighting
Spirit) awards will be handed out for each division

Galleria, located at 4801 LBJ Freeway, Dallas, TX 75244.
A block of rooms has been set aside on a first-come first-served basis for
participants at the rate of $109.00 plus tax. Breakfast vouchers for up to two
people per room and one free parking pass per room are included. These rates
will be available only until May 23, 2016.
