The Hotel Ambassador
12 September 2016 ROUND TOWN www.roundtowntimes.com ROUND TOWN A weekend at The Hotel Ambassador For proper FAMILY fun! Familiar Faces By Round Town’s Editor Michelle Baker Every month I get to review a hotel so readers can decide if it’s the place for their next holiday, and this month I got to play a proper tourist at the Hotel Ambassador, right in the heart of ‘real’ Benidorm, with our two youngest children, Marina and Mario. Location & Facilities The three star Hotel Ambassador is located on Calle Gerona, slap bang in the middle of everything! The beach is a five minute walk away, and some of the resorts most iconic night spots, like Morgan’s Tavern, The Western Saloon, The Black Chicken, The Palladium and John & Joseph’s are literally right on your doorstep! Exceptionally stylish with an ‘on trend’ white reception and funky coloured lighting, the communal areas include a fabulous nautical themed pub called The Explorer, a recreational games area, and the most stunning spa, complete with free form pool, www.roundtowntimes.com jets and treatment rooms. At the front of the hotel there is a kiddies playground and two outdoor pools – one with a children’s paddling pool – and one of these is covered in the winter to make a heated indoor pool. The air conditioned bedrooms are comfortable and stylish with everything you need (like UK TV and a hairdryer!) and all have a great mountain or pool view. And we were totally spoiled with an interconnecting room so the kids slept peacefully in their own room … and so did we! Little Extras I’m sure every reader would agree, it’s the little extras that make a holiday and the Ambassador isn’t short of them! For example, for a small charge you can hire a full sized iron and ironing board, or use (the very popular!) washing machine. If it’s your birthday during your stay, a bottle of cava will appear as if by magic in your room on your birthday – or sweets for children – so even if no-one else remembered, you’ll still feel special! And if you have special dietary requirements, the chef will prepare suitable food especially for you. ON RECEPTION OSMARA AND NOEMI September 2016 Hotel Manager Gabrielle Cowell “We are a team. Everybody is as important as everybody else and everybody plays their part in making our guests holiday a success” Super Friendly Staff POOL GAMES BEDROOM If it’s a proper Benidorm holiday you’re after, then the Ambassador is the place for you! In fact, from the smiley ladies on reception, to the hearty hugs in the restaurant, it’s clear the guests well being is absolute top priority, which is no surprise as leading the troops is British Hotel Manager Gabrielle Cowell, who has a lifetime experience in tourism – including twenty years as a Thomson rep. Gabrielle has only been Manager at the Ambassador for one year but her attention to detail has already earned her plenty of respect from the staff, who all spoke very highly of Gabrielle to me. But typically self deprecating Gabrielle simply emphasised “We are a team. Everybody is as important as everybody else and everybody plays their part in making our guests holiday a success”. With thanks to Hoteles Benidorm for inviting us and to all the team at the Ambassador, we had a great time! MAITRE D’ ANTONIO Stylish Reception MARINA AND MARIO LOVE THEIR MINI BREAKS The Food Well, I have to say I have never, ever stayed in a hotel with so many food options! In one mealtime alone the hot options included British style fish and chips, paella, pizza, lamb stew (with mint sauce), meatballs, roast chicken, salmon fillets, fajitas, and Spaghetti Bolognese! There was also a full selection of salads, cheese and biscuits, fresh fruit, dozens of desserts and (wait for it) soft ice cream on ‘tap’, with a selection of sprinkles AND strawberry sauce ….mmmmmmm! Drinks are really fair too; a pint costs just 1.50€ and a bottle of red wine just 6€, so there’s no need or excuse to sneak drinks in from outside! The restaurant runs perfectly under the watchful eye of Maitre D Antonio; he has 33 years experience, prides himself on knowing every guest’s face and proudly points out there is no queue, despite the hotel currently hosting around 1100 guests. But Antonio insists the key to a happy guest is in the detail. “We have one guest that goes for dialysis to hospital every day” he told me “And sometimes she is late back, so we keep her a meal for later, or pack her a special picnic to take with her”. Similarly Antonio lets guests travelling home later in the day enjoy lunch before leaving “It’s not part of their stay but a few more to feed makes little difference to us, but it means a lot to our guests” (well I’ve NEVER come across that before!). The Stunning Spa Entertainment (under the stars!) In summer, during the day there is a children’s rep to keep the little ones occupied with activities like cookie making, face painting and (the most popular of all) pool fun! Then at night and despite being surrounded by nightlife, the Ambassador has a full entertainment programme, so you can enjoy all the best of Benidorm’s tribute acts right there in the hotel – and (my favourite bit) in summer and up until September 18th the shows take place pool side under the stars. The kids absolutely loved dancing along to the fabulous Sister Act and with the pool gate open to invite passersby, the atmosphere was pure holiday! How Much? A typical week stay at the Ambassador from 15th to 22nd October costs just 784 euros, which works out at less than £50 per person per night, full board! And if you book direct for 5 nights or more you get a 5% discount using promo code PF516, free parking and a free spa session. So what are you waiting for? Book yourself a post summer break right now! For more information and to book go to www.hotelesbenidorm.com 13
