St. Anthony’s School News 5680 North Maroa Avenue Fresno, California 93704 Where Faith and Learning Grow Hand-in-Hand P (559) 435-0700 F (559) 435-6749 www.sasfresno.com March 6, 2012 Dear Families, Teaching honesty and responsibility to our children takes a considerable amount of time and patience, and it isn't anything like teaching your kids how to tie their shoes, where they understand the basic concept after a few lessons. We have to keep hammering away at these lessons daily-weeklymonthly. Parish Verification Form Honesty is taught by encouraging children to tell the truth and letting us know what is on their mind. Having them tell what’s on their mind shouldn’t be a scary thought. When you have made a decision and you know she’s going to be mad, ask her how she feels. Tell her that it’s okay to tell you she’s mad, and let her know that you won’t be angry. Then ask her why she’s mad. This strategy teaches your kids that they can talk to you honestly without you getting upset or yelling. Your part in this business is that you must be prepared for this kind of input from your children. If you did not receive a form and you are registered at Holy Spirit Church or the Newman Center, please see Mrs. Reynolds in the school office. Forms are due on or before Friday March 30, 2012. Active Catholic Tuition Rate will only be recorded on 2012-13 contracts for families with a completed form, received on time. Thank you for taking care of this responsibility. A second way of encouraging honesty is avoiding confrontations in which telling a lie is made easy for your child. Instead of saying, "Simon, did you forget to bring your book home again?" say, "Simon, you know you’re supposed to make sure you have all books needed for homework in your backpack when you come home." Avoid direct confrontation when you already know the answer. Asking him if he forgot his book, (again) when the book is not in his backpack, sets your child up to tell a lie. Don't put your kids in situations where fibbing is easier than telling the truth. Even as an adult, when someone asks whether you ate the last chocolate chip cookie, you get a little nervous — like maybe you did something wrong. Learn, however, to stick out your chest and proudly announce, "Yes! I ate the last cookie, and I must be honest, it was the best cookie out of the whole package! Share that with your child too. Thank you for encouraging honesty and responsibility at home as we expect it at school. Can we be hone Mrs. Kim Cochran☺ Principal kcochran@sasfresno.com God's kindness leads you toward repentance. Romans 2:4 Enclosed in today’s packet you will find a Parish Verification form if you are a registered member at Holy Spirit Church or the Newman Center. Please complete the form and bring it to the Parish Office at your respective church. Parish Staff will complete and mail back to Mrs. Reynolds our Registrar. Yearbook Photos on Thursday 3/8 Group photos will be taken this week and your child may need a reminder to make sure to have his/her shirt or other uniform at school. Photos to be taken: Sports, Cheerleaders, Student Government, Clubs, Choir, Academic Decathlon, Scouts, other group. No Make-up photos will be taken.
