THE KEMSOL STORY
K
emsol Products Ltd. originated in 1934, when Stanley G. McIntyre (pictured) began
importing an all-purpose cleaning product from the United States known as Kemsol
Cleaner. The product arrived in 5 gallon pails and was subsequently rebottled into used
whiskey bottles that were collected, washed and labeled right in the family home at 2042
Robinson St. in Regina. In those days the entire family pitched in, capped off by Stanley selling the
cleaner door to door to Regina residents.
In 1955, the company was taken over by Stanley’s son, Stuart. He moved the business from the
family home to the back of the Regina Book Exchange on South Railway (now Saskatchewan
Drive). He spent his days adding and selling new products, while wife Jo worked for Imperial
Oil. However, Jo, too, played a very integral role in maintaining and growing the business. She
sacrificed her time as they tirelessly worked evenings and weekends to support the needs of
the growing business; Jo did the office duties (invoicing, typing letters, quotes, etc.) while Stuart
mixed the various cleaners for market.
In 1958, Kemsol built its first office and manufacturing facility at 1568 Angus St. By the early
1960’s the company had grown so much that Stuart was able to expand the business and open
a branch office in Saskatoon. Eventually, Kemsol Products was servicing the entire province of
Saskatchewan. In 1968, a modern warehouse, complete with a dedicated manufacturing area,
was constructed at 1120 McDonald Street in Regina, which still serves as the company’s head
office. Today Kemsol is managed by Stuarts sons Rand(retired), Rich, Gord and grandson Brandon.
What began as a one-product distribution company has evolved into an institutional and
industrial manufacturing supply business. Kemsol Products Ltd. manufactures and distributes a
complete line of Janitorial Supply products, including those that are both, environmentally safe
and designed for the environment.

KEMSOL ULTRA PLUS
The “Wet Look” Ultra Plus is a thermal reactive floor finish that has been carefully formulated to
respond to all high speed buffing (300, 1000, 1500, 2000 RPM). Its thermoplastic and metal crosslinked polymers react to heat and friction and actually melt to the floor producing the highest possible
gloss. This “Wet look” shine is maintained month after month through a regular highspeed buffing
program. The heat sensitive plasticizers allow easy removal of scratches and scuff marks.
The truly amazing part of this unique product is that it looks better each time you high speed burnish.

KEMSOL CRYSTAL CLEAR SYNTHETIC FLOOR SEALER
CRYSTAL-CLEAR SEALER is a combination of clear synthetic resins, emulsified in water. It contains no
wax, varnish, lacquer or materials which could be classed as harmful to composition floors.
CRYSTAL-CLEAR SEALER is a special acrylic blend, formulated to seal, protect, and prolong the life of
vinyl, asphalt tile, rubber tile, linoleum, terazzo, and concrete. Prevents dusting, staining, discoloration,
and disintegration of floors. An excellent undercoating for old or new floors before waxing or finishing.
Restores beauty and colour to all tile floors. Normal cleaning and stripping does not affect this tough,
durable, protective film.
Coverage: 1,200 to 1,800 square feet per gallon for the first coat. – 1,800 to 2,000 square feet per
gallon for the second coat as required.

WATER-BASED URETHANE WOOD FINISH
This water-based urethane-arcylic wood floor finish provides long-lasting beauty and protection to
all wood floors. It’s a single component product that is easily applied with most applicators. It offers
excellent black mark, scuff and soil resistance and is uniquely restorable with high speed burnishing
equipment.

KEMSOL CLEAN HEAVY DUTY NO-RINSE CLEANER
Kemsol Clean is a phosphate-free all-purpose cleaner concentrated for economy. It’s a synthetic
detergent that contains no free alkali so it rinses without leaving a residue. Excellent for removal of
salt and ice-melting residues. Use it on resilient tile, concrete and terrazzo floors. Also excellent for
walls, woodwork and equipment.

KEMSOL PREP WOOD FLOOR DEEP CLEANER
Kemsol Prep is a dual use product that deep cleans wood floors prior to recoating or burnishing. When
used for recoating, this product removes embedded dirt, black marks and other soils leaving the floor
clean and uniformly dull. When used for burnishing, Kemsol Prep removes surface soil and black marks
leaving the floor clean and ready for burnishing.

KEMSOL URETHANE CEMENT SEAL
Kemsol Cement Seal is a protective solvent-based seal for use on all concrete – either old or new.
Cement Seal is a penetrating seal that actually becomes part of the floor, thereby increasing its
durability and protectiveness.
Protects, Prevents powdering, Penetrates, Durable, Coverage: 100 to 150 sq. feet per litre.
Note: Always Apply Sealers with Lamb’s Wool Applicator. Do Not Use on Asphalt or Rubber Tile.

KEMSOL GYM FINISH
Protective urethane resin, wood floor finish to be used on wood floors only.
Kemsol Gym Finish is a urethane type floor finish of outstanding chemical abrasion resistance. So
tough that even the tremendous heat created by sudden stops of rubber soles on gymnasium surfaces
will not burn through this material. Super tough finish repels dirt, grease and oil. Soil stays on top
so surface cleans easily.USES – Due to its outstanding chemical and abrasion resistance properties,
this material ideally lends itself to Gymnasiums, Dance Floors, Town Halls, Bakeries and Industrial
applications where extremely high gloss is desired.
COVERAGE – Oak or Maple 1st Coat – 110 sq. feet per litre, 2nd Coat – 130 sq. feet per litre, 3rd Coat
–150 sq. feet per litre Soft wood will average about 22 sq. feet per litre less than above.

Cleaning & Polishing Compound – is designed to save 50% – 70% of the labour usually required for
floor maintenance, producing a clean, safe, “Wet Look” floor. GELCON can be used on any coated

SUPER CONCENTRATED NO FILM CLEANER & ODOUR COUNTERACTANT
Airx 66 is a liquid, all-purpose cleaner with unique abilities in cleaning, free-rinsing and deodorizing.
It is 100% synthetic for better removal of greasy, oily soil. It is highly chelated and made of
liquid surfactants rather than powders to avoid leaving a film. And it contains AIRICIDE© odour

LOW FOAMING DETERGENT FOR USE IN AUTOMATIC FLOOR SCRUBBERS
AUTO SCRUB is a unique low foaming, no rinse detergent containing Airicide odour counteractant
for all purpose cleaning of polished or unpolished floors including vinyl, vinyl asbestos, asphalt tile,
rubber, marble, terazzo, ceramic tile, concrete etc.

AIRX 21C EXTRACTION CARPET CLEANER
FOR STAIN RESISTANT NYLON
AirX 21C is a special formulation for extraction cleaning required for use on the various brands of fifth
generation stain resistant nylon. As specified by the nylon producers, it is nontoxic, has a maximum
pH of 10.0 and is to be used with water temperature below 60oC.
Meets the requirements of nylon producers for use on their brands of stain resistant nylon and is

Indo 101 is a special blend of aliphatic and aromatic solvents with built in activators and emulsifiers.
Formulated for removal of tough soils in heavy duty situations where water based cleaners are
inadequate.
May be used straight or diluted with up to 10 parts mineral spirits or kerosene depending upon soil
difficulty and quantity. Apply by low pressure spray, brush‑on, wipe or immersion followed by a water
rinse if desired.

BRUSHLESS VEHICLE WASH CONCENTRATE
INDO 510 is a patented liquid alkaline detergent concentrate chemically formulated to remove road
film, carbon exhaust deposits and bug residue from painted vehicle surfaces utilizing pressure spray
equipment and without the need to agitate the surface with brushes. It works equally well in hot
or cold water and contains special chelating and water softening agents to rinse freely even in hard
water.
INDO 585 POWDERED VEHICLE WASH
A highly effective, powdered detergent formulated to efficiently remove a wide range of soils
including; road film from automobiles, trucks, trailers, buses and cars; carbon deposits from truck

KNOW YOUR FLOORS
The maintenance of floors would be simplified if only one substance
and one procedure for cleaning all floors could be prescribed. This, of
course, is not possible, since there are many different types of flooring,
and each type requires a different treatment during the cleaning
operation. lmproper cleaning techniques can affect the finish of the floor
surfaces, so it is essential that the materials used are not harmful to the
particular surface.
To help you do the proper job of maintenance on your own building’s
floors, it is important for you to know their characteristics and features.
Here is a non-technical discussion of the composition of floors, the effects
of different kinds of cleaners and preservatives on floors, and the proper
procedures that must be observed in the cleaning and maintenance of the
different materials.
RESILIENT TILE FLOORS
Asphalt Tile
Asphalt tile is a mixture of asbestos fibers, lime rock, inert fillers, and
colored pigments with an asphalt or resin binder. lt is very brittle and, like
linoleum, is bonded to the floor with mastic either directly or over a layer
of felt. A plywood subflooring can be used to provide a smooth surface.
Most soaps contain materials that lorm an emulsion, when they come in
contact with the component parts of the asphalt tile, which weakens the
tile. A synthetic liquid detergent which does not contain soap should be
used. Water seeping between the seams can loosen the binding between
the tiles and subfloors. Use water sparingly and remove immediately
during cleaning operations. Do not use solvents and oils as they attack
asphalt tile, causing it to break down. Use a water emulsion resin finish,
which is compatible with resilient tile floors and also provides an added
measure of safety under foot.
Rubber Tile
Rubber tile is composed of rubber which is colored by mineral pigment
and sometimes contains asbestos fibers. Rubber tile is seriously affected
by oil, solvents, strong soaps, and alkalies. lt has a dense, smooth surface
which resists abrasion, stains, acids and mild alkalies. lt is durable and
antislip.
Vinyl and Vinyl Asbeslos
Essentially, vinyl tile is a compound of inert nonflammable, odorless,
nontoxic resins, having a thermo-plastic quality, which is compounded
with other filler and stabilizing ingredients. Vinyl asbeslos is comparable
to asphalt tile except that that vinyl-type resins are used as a brnder
instead of asphalt.
Both of these materials are resistant to water, acids, alkalies, grease and
oil. They can be damaged by seepage of water between the tiles which
loosens them from the subflooring. New vinyl and vinyl-asbestos floors
are coated with a silicone which resists wetting. These floors need dry
buffing with a synthetic fiber scrubbing pad to remove surface silicones
before applying a water emulsion resin finish.
Linoleum
Linoleum is a mixture of linseed oil, resins, and ground cork pressed
upon a burlap backing, or a mixture of wood fibers, linseed oils, and
resins attached to a felt backing. Both the backing and the adhesive that
binds the linoleum to the sub-floor are susceptible to water damage
that loosens the linoleum from the floor. This results in curling of edges
and eventual destruction of the floor surface. Keep the use of water on
linoleum to an absolute minimum. Never flood the surface with water.
Wash a small area at a time, so the water can be picked up quickly.
Linoleum is also highly susceptible to alkali damage. Alkali will remove the
linseed oil binder, drying out the floor, causing it to become brittle and
crack.
NONRESILIENT TILE FLOOR
Terrazzo
Terrazzo is made of marble chips set in a mixture of portland cement.
The floor surface is highly polished and easy to clean. A Terrazzo sealer
protects the floor from penetration by spillage and from wear by foot
traffic. A new terrazzo floor may appear dull because of the formation of
deposits of mineral salts. This is caused by the curing of the cement and
will clear up easily through routine malntenance. Strong alkalies, soaps,
and scouring powders are harmful lo terrazzo.
Marble and Traverline
Marble and Travertine are natural stone materials that have been
polished and laid to form a smooth floor. Strong soaps and cleaners
enlarge the pores of this stone and cause it to absorb dirt. Never use
scouring powder.
Ceramic Tile and Quarry Tile
Ceramic tile is composed of clay mixed with water and fired in a kiln ,
whereas quarry tile is a natural stone. Both ceramic tile
and quarry tile provide a smooth impervious surface which is not
damaged by plain water. Avoid harmful cleaners that will eat away
the concrete grouting surrounding the tile.
Concrete
Concrete floors are made from a mixture of portland cement, sand and
gravel or crushed rock. Concrete floors are somewhat porous; therefore,
do not use strong soaps and alkalies because they cause chipping and also
remove the sealant.
WOOD AND CORK FLOORS
Wood Floors
One of the most common wood floors is maple. lt is, along with oak,
known as hardwood and is more resistant to water and wear than other
kinds of wood, such as pine, which is soft wood. Maple is a “close-grained”
wood with very little apparent difference between the hard and soft
layers of wood.
Oak and pine have alternate layers of hard and soft materials and are
known as “open-grained” woods. The softer portion of grain is readily
damaged by traffic and can literally be eaten away by strong soaps and
water. Water absorbed by wood floors causes them to warp and this
creates openings between the boards. Use a solvent-type combination
cleaner and surface finish instead of water.
Separated boards permit the entry of dirt and moisture which cause
boards to rot. Alternating contraction and expansion of wood to to
warping and drying, results in the loosening o{ floors from the subfloor.
Heavy foot traffic, trucking, gouging by falling objects or the dragging
of heavy objects across wood floors cuts the surfaces until they are no
longer smooth. Floors so damaged by such abrasive action are further
damaged when exposed to water, oils, or grease.
A floor seal protects wood floors from moisture and operational
equipment. Preservation and restoration of the floor seal is imperative to
protect the wood and provide a smooth surface which is easier to keep
clean. The seal is preserved with cleaner-surface finish.
Cork Floors
Cork flooring consists of cork curlings and granulated cork compressed
in molds. When properly installed, it is treated with a sealer and finished
to obtain surface protection. When the seal and finish are worn through,
the floor becomes porous and subject to deterioration. Cork floors are
durable and will not dust, crumble, splinter, or rot. They are susceptible to
damage form water, oils and grease.
