ARRIVE IN ULAANBAATAR CITY Our crew will pick you up at the Chinggis Khaan International Airport upon your arrival in Ulaanbaatar, capital of Mongolia and check in a hotel. After a bit of rest, we will do some introduction bird watching and photographing in Tuul River valley. The only mammal which we can possibly see in this area is Corsac fox. Interesting birds would be Azure Tit, Azure-winged Magpie and White-crowned Penduline Tit. Will have a WELCOME DINNER at one of the most famous restaurants in Ulaanbaatar and return to the hotel. Food: Welcome dinner at a restaurant. Road: Total coverage 30 km on paved road. 30 minutes’ drive. DAY 2-3. YOLYN AM Today we will fly to Dalanzadgad town in South Gobi Province for 1 hour. Upon arrival, drive straight to the Yolyn Am (also called ‘Lammergeier Gorge’) which is a good breeding habitat for this magnificent bird and is the most southeastern edge of Gobi Altai Mountain range. This high mountain range is a characteristic habitat for Asiatic Ibex, Argali Wild Sheep, Snow Leopard, Pallas’s Pika and Pallas’s Cat. Interesting birds here are Lammergeier, Himayalan Griffon, Mongolian Finch, Black Vulture and Mongolian Accentor etc… Overnight in a Tourist Ger Camp. Food: Tourist Ger Camp –B, L and D. Road: Total coverage 70 km on paved and dust roads. 30 minutes’ drive. DAY 4-6. KHONGORYN ELS After have breakfast, we will start driving to Khongoryn Els sand dune which has a very scenic place located at base of rear side of a mountain and to the north borders with seamless valley of Gobi Desert. En route we will try to see Goitered and Mongolian Gazelles. During the nights, we will drive slowly on the open desert steppe and explore the night wildlife including the jerboas, Long-eared Hedgehog and hamsters etc. For some small rodents, Sherman live traps will be used and all captured animals will be measured and released. On the water point, mist nest will be used to catch bats including Alashanian Pipistrelle, Gobi big brown bat and Grey Long-eared Bat etc. All the data and sighting will contribute to the wildlife database of this poorly known country. DALANZADGAD TOWN Upon breakfast, we will head back to the Dalanzadgad town and check in a tourist ger camp near Gurvan Saikhan Airport. Overnight in a tourist ger camp. FLIGHT TO ULAANBAATAR AND HUSTAI NP After landed in Ulaanbaatar city, we will drive straight to Hustai NP which is located not far west of the city. The living ancestor of domestic horses, Przewalski’s wild horse is re-introduced in this national park some 25 years ago and now the number of the wild horses is increasing along with other wildlife species. Overnight in a local hotel. Food: Tourist Ger Camp- Breakfast; Lunch; Local restaurant -Dinner. Road: Total coverage 100 km on paved road. Over 1 hour flight. DAY 9. HUSTAI NP Early in the morning, we will drive into the park and will see and photograph Przewalski’s Wild Horse, Red Deer, Mongolian marmot, Long-tailed Souslik and possibly Grey Wolf. The interesting bird species will be Mongolian Lark, Saker Falcon, Cinereous Vulture, Upland Buzzard, Meadow Bunting, Daurian Partridge and Amur Falcon. In late evening, we’ll be back to the park restaurant and have a dinner with Mongolian cold beers. Overnight in a tourist ger camp. Food: Hustai restaurant –B, L and Dinner. Road: Total coverage 100 km on paved road. DAY 10. ULAANBAATAR CITY Today we will come back to Ulaanbaatar city and do some shopping. In the evening, enjoy traditional show if there is one available.
