Lynda Monk Email: purplemissus@aol.com Website: www.purplemissus.com Mobile: 07510 520918 WORKSHOPS IMPORTANT: Although I am aware that some students will already have at least some of the necessary materials it would be very time consuming to work out additional costs for other materials used such as Polymer Mediums, Fluid Acrylic Paint, Xpandaprint etc. and would also take up valuable time at the beginning of each session. Therefore all materials used in the workshops are supplied, at cost price, at an extra charge per student as stated with no hidden extras. Along with all the necessary materials, a CD containing all the techniques and more, in pdf format, covered during the day is included in the materials cost. There will be a variety of samples and finished pieces on display to inspire you to take these techniques further. Maximum 15 students. Please make sure the venue is large enough for everyone to have at least half a trestle size table to themselves and that there are enough power points for sewing machines, irons or heat guns. Please bring extension leads where necessary. 1 Creative Surfaces I In this workshop we will be exploring the different effects that can be achieved using Kunin Felt combined with acrylic mediums to create textured pieces of work. Each student will create a vessel as shown left which will then be ready to take home and add colour to the surface. Please note: A sewing machine on the day is essential for this workshop with a basic knowledge of either normal straight stitch or freehand machining. See requirements list number 1 All materials used in the workshop are supplied at a cost of £10.00 per student. 2 Creative Surfaces II In this workshop we will be using Kunin Felt to create a textured surface which will then be used to construct an ‘Encrusted Blade’ as shown left. The vessel will be created as far as possible during the day ready to take home and add colour to the surface. Complete instructions for assembling the ‘Encrusted Blade’ will be included. Please note: A sewing machine on the day is essential for this workshop with a basic knowledge of either normal straight stitch or freehand machining. See requirements list number 1. All materials used in the workshop are supplied at a cost of £10.00 per student. 3 Creative Surfaces III In this workshop we will be creating metallic effect surfaces using a combination of foils, tissue papers, acrylic gels and mediums along with various other fabrics and media. Each student will take home a variety of postcard size samples created in the class and all the necessary materials and instructions to create an A5 size book as seen in the photograph which will need to be completed at home. All the samples could be embellished further to be used as pieces in their own right or incorporated into larger projects. See requirements list number 2. All materials used in the workshop are supplied at a cost of £12.50 per student. 4 Scrim,Screens & Scrappy Bits In this workshop we will be looking at ways to create textured and background surfaces using scrim and Thermofax screens combined with Gesso, Xpandaprint, Acrylic Paints and various other mediums. Although most of these surfaces may work well on their own they will all be enhanced with further embellishment in the way of stitch, beading or additional mixed-media products and techniques. Each student will take home a variety of samples created during the day. See requirements list number 1. (This workshop can be adapted for use without a sewing machine if necessary – please ask) All materials used in the workshop are supplied at a cost of £12.50 per student. 5 Fabulous Surfaces In this workshop we will be creating several samples from the book ‘Fabulous Surfaces’ and extending some of the techniques shown. Each student will take home a variety of samples created in the class. See requirements list number 2. All materials used in the workshop are supplied at a cost of £10.00 per student. 6 Exploring Creative Surfaces In this workshop we will be creating several samples from the book ‘Exploring Creative Surfaces’ and extending some of the techniques shown. Each student will take home a variety of samples created in the class. See requirements list number 2. All materials used in the workshop are supplied at a cost of £10.00 per student. 7 Mixed Media Medley A play day creating samples using lots of different techniques. Each student will take home a variety of samples created in the class. See requirements list number 2. All materials used in the workshop are supplied at a cost of £12.50 per student. 8 Exploring Thermofax Screens Lots of people think that printing on fabric with fabric dye is the only way to use a Thermofax screen. In this workshop you will explore several different ways of using a screen with several different mediums. Cost of materials includes an A5 Thermofax Screen to take away with you. See requirements list number 2. All materials used in the workshop are supplied at a cost of £12.50 per student. 9 Wire & Form In this workshop we will be creating various shapes and forms using Thermofax Screens, Stencils and Xpandaprint. We will then stitch the completed shapes together to construct different forms, pods, flower shapes and larger items such as vessels. The use of cotton covered wire will give a shape that can be easily manipulated. See requirements list number 1. All materials used in the workshop are supplied at a cost of £12.50 per student. 10 Fragments Explore several different mixed-media techniques involving Lutradur, Xpandaprint, Thermofax screens etc to create a variety of samples or several resolved 'fragments'. Then go on to explore methods of presentation from threedimensional forms to delicate panels. See requirements list number 1. All materials used in the workshop are supplied at a cost of £12.50 per student. Note: All of the above are one day workshops which can be combined or extended to cover two or more days if required.
