People: Meet Brice Walsh. Brice has been
working with the Grayslake Park District
Recreation staff as a Recreation Supervisor
since 2014. Brice has a Bachelor’s degree in
Recreation from the University of
Wisconsin-Whitewater. He was raised in the
Grayslake area and feels lucky to work for such
a great company where he is able to give back
to his community. When he’s not at work you
can find him on the Baseball diamond coaching
for the Grayslake Rams Feeder teams. In his
free time, he enjoys working out, cooking,
golfing, and watching his Dallas Cowboys!
Places: The park district offers numerous reservable picnic areas and shelters for family gatherings and other events. Parks with shelters or picnic areas include: Jones Island, Mill Creek, Tooterville, Sunrise, Cambridge and 2 locations within Central Park. Each area is unique in the types of
adjacent recreational spaces they offer and can host groups of all sizes. Fees are very reasonable
and reservations begin March 1st and are on a first come, first serve basis. Please take a look at
the Picnic and Park Reservations section of this brochure or call us at
(847) 223-7529 for more information.
LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR
LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR
The end of “winter” is upon us and we hope you’re looking forward to the spring and summer
seasons as much as we are. The district has once again lined up a huge number of great
programs for people of all ages and will continue its aggressive capital project campaign with
numerous park improvements. Welcome to another edition of our People, Places and Projects
where we highlight a staff member, recommend place(s) to go in the community and bring you
up to date on some of those projects we’re working on.
Projects: The district has once again lined up a number of capital projects for this year. They
include:
1. Meadowview Park: The district will replace the playground and renovate the basketball/tennis
area at the park this summer. The students at Meadowview School have helped us select the playground components and we’re excited to get this project completed so the kids can return next fall
to a new playground!
2. Lexington Woods Park: The district will be resurfacing the paved trail running from Shorewood
Road to Meadowview School this summer.
3. School Trail Park: The district will be resurfacing the paved trail running from Alleghany to Hillside this summer.
4. Alleghany Park: One of our bigger projects this year, the district will be running electric and
irrigation to the “top” portion of the park this year. This project will include installing irrigation within
the existing 20 acres that has already been completed and be in position to have the necessary
infrastructure to irrigate the additional 30 acres currently being developed which will be completed
in 2017.
Enjoy your spring time and join us for some fun programs and at great places within the community!
Jeff Nehila, Executive Director

the community who are often unable to participate in
recreation programs due to economic hardships.

information, contact the Park District at (847) 223-7529.

*Programs that are cancelled by the Park District, participants will receive a 100% refund.
Please note: All refunds that are for $10 or less

SATISFACTION GUARANTEE POLICY
We are committed to providing our participants with
high quality leisure programs. Our residents and
participants are very important to us and we feel you
deserve quality at all times. We are confident that our
leisure programs provide high quality so we are backing it with a policy called “Satisfaction Guarantee”. Our
promise and policy is as follows: The Park District’s
promise is that you will be satisfied with the quality of
our leisure programs in which you participate or you will
receive a full refund of fees you have paid for that program. The policy and refund process is simple. All we
request is that you must attend at least one class and if
you are not satisfied with the quality of our instruction,
that you take a brief moment of your time to come in
and complete and return our “Satisfaction Guarantee”
refund form prior to the third class. Your input on the
refund form is very valuable as it will allow us to focus
on where improvement is needed.
The Satisfaction Guarantee refund forms are available at the Recreation Center. Upon receiving your
completed form by the third class, we will process a full
refund of your paid fees provided YOU ONLY ATTENDED THE FIRST CLASS. Attending two or more classes,
all refunds will be pro-rated as to how many classes
have been held in the program session.
THIS POLICY APPLIES TO LEISURE PROGRAMS
ONLY! A leisure program is defined as a program
where Park District personnel teach activities or skills
over a period of three or more weeks. Satisfaction
Guarantee policy does not apply to special events,
trips, contractual programs, conflicts with scheduling,
make up classes, weather related causes or any other
cause not within the control of the Park District.
The Grayslake Community Park District is a separate
government agency established for the purpose of providing leisure programs, parks and recreation facilities
for the community. Our mission states: “The Grayslake
Community Park District is committed to enhancing the
quality of life in the Grayslake Community by providing
year round leisure services, preserving open space and
fostering community pride.”

the standards for implementing the Act. The Act prohibits exclusion of qualified individuals with a disability
from services, programs or activities of any state or local
government which includes park districts as of January
26, 1992. Individuals with concerns or questions should
contact the Park District at 223-7529.
STATEMENT OF NON-DISCRIMINATION

This is a great class to help
educate people on the ease of
gardening using Heirloom and
Organic seeds. With all the attention on eating healthier this class
will provide education on growing
your own vegetables from seed
thus avoiding the GMO (Genetically Modified Organisms) produce and products. The students
will have the opportunity to select
and plant many different varieties
of tomatoes, herbs and assorted
veggies in a seed starter cell that
they take home with them. The
class will provide seed saving
techniques, composting information along with how to make &
use non chemical fertilizer and

Spring is the time to start thinking about planting some of your
seeds to grow seedlings for transplanting. Especially, things like
tomatoes and peppers that take a
little longer to be ready for Summer. Starting your seeds early
means they’ll start producing for
you earlier in the season, granting

FITNESS
PILATES
Age: 16 years & up
The Pilates method is a system of movement and
therapeutic exercise developed over a span of 60
years by German-born athlete and physical therapy
pioneer, Joseph H. Pilates. Utilizing the specialized
equipment he designed, the method works by toning
muscles and balancing muscular force at the joint
level. It stimulates circulation by facilitating muscular
flexibility, joint range of motion and proper musculoskeletal alignment. In addition, it promotes new
neuromuscular patterns, heightened body awareness, and more precise coordination. All these things
combine to help prevent future re-injury and reduce
and in some cases alleviate chronic pain. Each
Student should wear loose fitting clothes, bring a mat
and water bottle to each class. (TP)

CAMP STAFF
Each camp group is supervised by qualified adult
camp directors and high school or college-aged
counselors who are First Aid, CPR & AED certified and have attended a training workshop which
includes safety policies and procedures, management techniques and lesson planning.
AGE REQUIREMENTS
When choosing an age-appropriate camp for your
child, use the grade that your child will be entering
in Fall 2016. All campers in preschool programs
must be of age by the first day of camp. Proof of
age may be required.
Special Accommodations ADA Information
The Grayslake Park District encourages
participation for everyone! If you or a family
member have special needs and would like
to participate in a program, we will be happy
to make modifications to meet your needs.
Please indicate on your registration form if
you would like information regarding our inclusion programs and/or modifications for program participants according to the Americans
with Disabilities Act.
BEHAVIOR POLICY
Participants are expected to exhibit appropriate
behavior at all times. The following guidelines
have been developed to help make park district
programs safe and enjoyable for all participants.
Additional rules may be developed for particular
programs and athletic leagues as deemed necessary by staff.
Participants shall:
1. Show respect to all participants and staff, take
direction from staff.
2. Refrain from using abusive or foul language.
3. Refrain from causing bodily harm to self, other
participants or staff.
4. Show respect for equipment, supplies and
facilities.
A positive approach will be used regarding discipline. Staff will periodically review rules with
participants during the program session. If inappropriate behavior occurs, prompt resolution will
be sought specific to each individual situation.
The park district reserves the right to dismiss a
participant whose behavior endangers the safety
of himself / herself or others.
COMMUNICATING WITH US
Contacting The Park District
If you need to leave a message for staff
members or call in for a sick child, please
call the Park District office at (847) 223-7529
beginning at 8:30am; Monday - Friday, June
6 - August 12.
Contacting Your Child‛s Camp Director
As part of our ongoing goal to communicate
with parents, the Park District has equipped
directors with a cell phone. You may contact
your camp director at anytime on the camp
cell phone if needed. Peace of mind and the
safety of your camper are only a phone call
away!
CAMP POLICIES
HEALTH & SAFETY
Emergency Forms
The Park District does not require children
to have a medical examination to attend
camp. However, it is important to accurately
complete the emergency forms that are included in your parent manual. If your child
has special needs such as allergies, phobias
or medical alerts such as epilepsy or asthma,
please include this information with home and
work phone numbers on the form we provide.
These forms must be returned to your camper’s director on the first day of camp.
Reporting Safety Concerns
The Park District is committed to providing
a safe place for your recreational activities.
We encourage Grayslake residents to report
safety concerns about our facilities and parks
by calling (847) 223-7529. You can leave a
message any time of the day, seven days a
week. Because of the high volume of people
using our facilities each day, our facilities can
change daily. We want to know if you see
something that concerns you.
CAMPER DROP-OFF & PICK-UP
We are concerned about our camper’s safety
not only at camp, but also in arriving and
departing camp. It is very important that the
camp staff know the means by which each
camper will arrive and depart each day. We
ask that parents walk their child to the arrival
and departure destinations (whether this is
inside or outside) each day. In the event you
will not be available to pick up your child, only
those persons listed on the emergency release form, that you completed, would be allowed to pick up your child from the program.
A picture I.D. may be requested from you or
anyone picking up your child.
RELEASE OF INFORMATION
During camp sessions, photos are often taken
of all participants. Please see the back of the
registration form for details.

Our preschool camps are designed to
expose your child to a fun and exciting
learning environment. We recommend
our camps to help transition your child
into a semi-structured learning
atmosphere in order to prepare them
for Preschool. Preschool Camps focus on
introducing circle time, educational
concepts, structured projects and
social interaction with peers. The Park
District takes great pride in providing a
positive, nurturing and safe environment
for all children to grow.

NATURE CAMP
This half day camp, specifically geared for 4-yearolds, is designed to activate your child’s creativity and
imagination by doing arts ‘n crafts, storytelling, nature
studies, playing games, theme days and social interaction with children of the same age group. Along with
all of the activities your camper will have water day one
day a week depending on the weather. Please bring a
towel to camp on your designated water day. Please
bring a snack and drink to camp each day. Camp
T-shirt will be handed out on the first day of camp. All
campers must be potty trained before camp begins.
Nature Camp will have your camper exploring the Midwest’s natural habitat of wetlands, prairies, and woodlands. Each week we will explore a green space and learn
about the animals and plants that call that ecosystem their
home. By combining play and learning, children are able
to grow and develop at their own pace and better understand how they are a part of the larger world. This camp is
hands on fun while learning about nature and our environment. Each week camp will travel to a different park by
park district bus.

CHICAGO WHITE SOX BASEBALL SUMMER CAMPS
WE'RE COMING TO YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD...
For over 20 years the Chicago White Sox have brought quality baseball instruction to children throughout
Chicagoland! If you want to be the best, you’ve got to train with the best! Since 1994, more than 50,000 youth
baseball players have attended one of our White Sox summer camps to focus on essential individual baseball
skills. Professional coaches from the White Sox organization have programs designed for kids from 5 – 11 at
every ability level.
For the Little Sluggers, our beginner program is open to boys and girls ages 5 & 6 and is designed to introduce
this age group to the game of baseball. Our intermediate camp for ages 7 & 8 includes fundamental skills work
on throwing, hitting, bunting, fielding, pitching and base-running. Fundamentals will be reinforced by using fun
skill games. The White Sox Summer Camp for ages 9-12 builds upon the basics and is just the ticket to
advance your game to the next level. Depending on the skill level of the players, this camp will touch on
advanced hitting and throwing techniques, as well as team play, advanced base running and other techniques
that could be used on the field this season. On the final day all players will get the opportunity to judge their
improvement by playing a game. Student to instructor ratio will be 10:1 or less. (*Restrictions apply to ticket
vouchers. Experience dates are to be determined, premium items subject to change.)

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
The Grayslake Community Park District is committed to conducting its recreation programs and activities in the
safest manner possible and holds the safety of participants in the highest possible regard. Participants and
parents registering their child in recreation programs must recognize, however, that there is an inherent risk of
injury when choosing to participate in recreation activities. The Grayslake Community Park District continually
strives to reduce such risks and insists that all participants follow safety rules and instructions which have been
designed to protect the participant’s safety.
Please recognize that the Grayslake Community Park District does not carry medical accident insurance for
injuries sustained in its programs. The cost of such would make program fees prohibitive. Therefore, each
person registering themselves or a family member for a recreation program / activity should review their own
health insurance policy for coverage. It must be noted that the absence of health insurance coverage does not
make the Grayslake Community Park District automatically responsible for the payment of medical expenses.
Due to the difficulty and high cost of obtaining liability insurance, the agency providing liability coverage for the
District requires the execution of the following Waiver and Release. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
WAIVER AND RELEASE OF ALL CLAIMS
Please read this form carefully and be aware that in registering yourself or your minor child/ward for participation in Grayslake Community Park District programs, you will be waiving and releasing all claims for injuries
you or your child/ward might sustain arising out of the above programs with the Grayslake Community Park
District.
I recognize and acknowledge that there are certain risks of physical injury to participants in Grayslake Community Park District programs and I agree to assume the full risk of any such injuries, including death, damages
or loss regardless of severity which I or my child/ward may sustain as a result of participating in any and all
activities connected or associated with such programs. When registering by fax, it is mutually understood that
the facsimile registration document (including the waiver and release of all claims) shall substitute for and have
the same legal effect as the original form.
I agree to waive and relinquish all claims I or my child/ward may have as a result of participating in the program
against the Grayslake Community Park District and other agencies and its officers, agents and employees. I
do hereby fully release and discharge the Grayslake Community Park District and its officers, agents, servants,
and employees from any and all claims from injuries including death, damages, and losses sustained by me or
my minor child/ward arising out of, connected with, or in any way associated with the activities of the programs.
I further agree to indemnify and hold harmless and defend the Grayslake Community Park District and its officers, agents, servants and employees from any and all claims resulting from injuries including death, damages
and losses sustained by me or by my child/ward arising out of, connected with, or in any way associated with
the activities of any of the programs.
In the event of any emergency, I authorize Grayslake Community Park District officials to secure from any
licensed hospital, physician and/or medical personnel any treatment deemed necessary for me or my minor
child/ward’s immediate care and agree that I will be responsible for payment of any and all medical services
rendered. I also understand that unless specifically stated in writing at the time of registration, registrants and
participants permit the taking of photos and videotapes of themselves and their children during Park District
activities for publication and use as the Park District deems necessary.

The Grayslake Community Park District is a cooperative member agency of the Special Recreation Association of Central Lake County (SRACLC). SRACLC provides community based therapeutic recreation programs and services to people of all ages with disabilities or special needs.
SRACLC is a cooperative effort of the Grayslake, Vernon Hills and Mundelein Park Districts and the

staff, if deemed necessary, sign language interpreters, behavior management support, disability awareness training and other adaptive services necessary for safe and successful participation.
