Wide lakes, undulating fairways and strategic bunkers
characterize the terrain, along with carefully tended greens,
considered some of the best in Portugal. Framed by a
distinctive canopy of umbrella pines, the fairways wind their
way past wild flowers, broom and heather, offering
tantalizing views of the Ria Formosa National Park on one
side and the Atlantic coastline on the other.
Laranjal course is the new kid on the block at Quinta do Lago
(opened in 2009) and reputation of third is already growing.
It has been voted Best Golf Course at the Portuguese Travel
Awards 2011. Laranjal is renowned for its five beautiful lakes
and its abundance of umbrella pines, cork and orange trees.
Based on original concepts by the legendary Sir Henry Cotton
and re-developed by the respected American golf architect
Rocky Roquemore, the Vale do Lobo courses have twice been
host to the Portuguese Open. Both take players through
umbrella pine and fig tree-lined fairways to the Atlantic – the
Royal playing dramatically along the cliff’s edge, while the
Ocean sweeps daintily down to the beach.
Pinheiros Altos is established as one of the most
prestigious and successful premier golf and leisure
resorts in Europe (New Hotel resort currently being
built). Pinheiros Altos Golf Resort is located in the Ria
Formosa National Park.
The golf course's presentation is highly individual, each hole
a design gem blending effortlessly into this natural canvas,
from its ingeniously shaped and sculptured bunkers, to the
impressive presentation and attention to detail making every
hole as remarkable as the next; fairways and greens are
bordered by several lakes and trees adding drama to the
