Late fall at the Dumoine Club
What are we?
The Dumoine River Rod and Gun Club is an incorporated club owned and operated as a nonprofit
organization by its members. The objectives of the club are to provide facilities for hunting, fishing,
and recreation for its members, and to promote and maintain the integrity of the environment and
the fish and game laws that protect the environment.
Members of the club have access to the club headquarters, a two-story historic log lodge with living,
diningand kitchen areas, hot showers, flush toilets and telephone. Next to the lodge are threehousekeeping cabins. The Club also maintains 5 out cabins located on various lakes for the use of its
members. There are hundreds of lakes to fish and
hunt from within a short driving distance of the
lodge and camps. Canoes are provided. A caretaker
maintains the facilities from ice out until mid
October. The club is located in Western Quebec on
the Dumoine River in a huge (1500 km2) aquatic
reserve protected for recreational activities.

Fishing
Speckled Trout - There are many lakes and ponds that provide good trout fishing, accessible by
driving or ATV from the Lodge. A few are within hiking distance. Typical fish vary from 1 - 3 lbs but
trout up to 6 lbs are not uncommon. Both stocked and native speckled trout fishing are available. This
year's opening day fishing competition was won by a person catching two 6+ lb speckles.
Lake Trout - Two of the lakes on which we have camps
provide excellent lake trout fishing. These fish feed on
crayfish and are delicious! Lake trout and Splake are
plentiful in many of the lakes.
Northern Pike - The opportunities are unlimited!
Small Mouth Bass - In the river near the Lodge there is
excellent bass fishing.
Walleye - Can be found in the River and are abundant in
most of the larger lakes.
Wildlife – There is abundant wildlife for viewing,
photography and hunting.
Moose - There is an archery and a rifle season for moose. Each fall moose are taken in the vicinity
of the Club.
Bear - At this time our area is limited to spring bear season only
Small Game - The grouse and woodcock hunting are excellent
Recreation
The Club is not just for hunting and fishing. Family vacations and other recreational activities are
enjoyed by families and their guests.
Canoeing- The Dumoine River is a very popular river for canoe enthusiasts. It is well known for its
range of white water challenges and its scenic beauty. Trips of 1 - 7 days can easily be arranged.
ATV's - Riding is unlimited as there are hundreds of miles of road and trails. ATV's must be licensed
and insured. ATV's are the most practical way to get around.
Snowmobiles - The same opportunities exist as for ATV's. There is no club manager or service
during the winter months but our 8 cabins are available year round.
For hunting and fishing, a Quebec license is required. Also in this part of Quebec, hunting and fishing
are controlled by ZECs. ZEC Permits are required for any hunting or fishing activities. The Club lodge
is in the ZEC Rapides de Joachim while the area to the west of the Dumoine River is in the ZEC
Dumoine.
As a member, you become an integral part of the total club activity, and as influential a contributor as
you desire. Members vote annually for the Executive and are free to run for office. All members may
raise issues at the Annual General Meeting held at the end of August.
Whether your pleasure is hiking, canoeing, fishing, hunting, swimming from sandy beaches, or the
endless ATV and Snowmobile opportunities, the Club will serve as the hub for all your out door
activities.
Club History and Members
The Dumoine River Rod and Gun Club had its inception through the dedicated efforts of a few Lake
Placid business and professional people in 1918. The current membership is about half from the
North Eastern USA and half from Ontario and Quebec. The activities of the club have evolved with the
coming of roads, new methods of transportation and changes in the provincial approach to such
clubs and the protection of the environment. However, the underlying principles of a love for the
wilderness and its protection have remained the same.
