Camp descriptions are listed alphabetically. ARTSALIVE!* P Join the Downtown Y for a week of sports and fun-filled active games. Learn a variety of sports such as basketball, soccer, football and more. Each day will bring a new adventure in the world of sports and fitness. Kids will create lasting relationships and help build their confidence while trying new things. We will walk to local parks and churches for outdoor sports and activities. Facility Member: $85/$125 Ages: 6-12 Program Member: $92/$135 Weeks 1-4: Everyone’s a Star Act out short skits, sing along with the chorus and appreciate all things artistic in our first ArtsAlive session of the season. These four weeks are about learning the theater ropes, testing creative limits, and building confidence for our big summer production – Alice @ Wonderland. We’ll also explore fine art techniques, swim at the Y and visit local theaters all summer long. Facility Member: $125 Ages: 8-13 Program Member: $135 ALOHA TO SUMMER ARTSALIVE!* P ALL-SPORTS CAMP D Say “aloha” to summer as we wind down and prepare for our last summer bash. Participate in sand art, Limbo, Hula Hoop contests and more. Dance to island music, learn a Hula routine, and enjoy tropical treats at the Luau. Enjoy the island vibes as we splash through the week in tropical style, learning more about the beach and aquatic wildlife as we play. Join our cast of characters for five weeks of structured acting, voice, and choreography workshops as we bring Alice @ Wonderland: The Musical to life. Between rehearsals, we’ll enjoy fine art lessons, weekly swimming trips, and adventures to local playhouses and theater groups across the Pacific Northwest. Performance night is August 18th. Campers will learn art techniques from drawing to sculpting, and display their creations at a family-friendly Art Night. Tour the Bremerton US Naval Destroyer Ship Museum and the Chehalis Veterans Memorial Museum; both are full of interesting pieces from our country’s past! Facility Member: $149 Ages: 6-12 Program Member: $159 COMMUNITY HEROES CAMP D Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be a real life hero and work to save lives and help people? Come find out from real-world heroes in our community. This a great camp for kids who want to find out what it’s really like to be a firefighter, police officer, and more! Each day will have a different community hero and theme. Facility Member: $85/$125 Ages: 6-12 Program Member: $92/$135 CRAFTY KIDS CAMP D Let’s get crafty! Campers will explore a variety of art techniques while using their imaginations with crafts as well. They will create pieces inspired by feeling and bring their imaginations to life. This camp will take a walking tour of the Japanese Gardens and local art around the Downtown area. Facility Member: $85/$125 Ages: 6-12 Program Member: $92/$135 DOWNTOWN ADVENTURE D H2WOW! CAMP D The Downtown Y pool transforms into an aquatic adventure! Learn snorkeling, underwater swimming, and water safety while improving stroke technique. This week includes an obstacle course and water games. Our experienced staff will make this week a fun and welcoming environment for kids to explore the water. We will also take a walking trip to the WET Museum and South Sound Estuary. Facility Member: $85/$125 Ages: 6-12 Program Member: $92/$135 HISTORY IS A MYSTERY! B Can you figure it out? What’s that? Who did it? Where are we? The Pacific Science Center and Tacoma’s History Museum are packed with answers to those questions. Become a detective, discover new places, and have fun with friends. This camp will be full of mysteries for you to unravel. Facility Member: $169 Ages: 6-12 Program Member: $179 JUST BUILD IT C H MT Let’s explore Downtown Olympia. We will learn how to read maps and use compasses to navigate Downtown. This camp will include a walking tour of Downtown, Percival Landing, a tour of the capital, and so much more. Kids will create their own maps and learn about navigation and following map directions. This week will include a scavenger hunt and team building. Facility Member: $85/$125 Ages: 6-12 Program Member: $92/$135 Construct a towering skyscraper or design your own town – this week we’ll explore architecture and what it takes to build everything from Minecraft structures to toothpick bridges. GO FOR THE GOLD KIDS IN THE KITCHEN B Get “Rio” excited for the 2016 Summer Olympics during this week by learning true Olympic values and discovering the history of the world’s biggest sporting event. The week builds up to our own YMCA Olympic Games, from Opening Ceremony to the medal podium! Include a trip to Great Wolf Lodge for a ropes course and a Tacoma Rainiers game, and this camp promises to take the gold in all events! Practice recipe reading, kitchen safety, and experiment with a variety of flavors and cuisines! With the support of great staff and knowledgeable guest chefs, we will have a delicious time! This camp will not only help expand the palate of our campers, but will provide experience, education, and confidence to those campers who want to venture into the kitchen on their own. Camp staff will provide the perfect mix of learning and fun, while perfecting ballet, hip hop, and freestyle dance styles. We will end the week with a group performance. Kids will develop skills in math, design, technology literacy, communications, and science while building motorized robots This camp emphasizes teamwork, creativity, and learning. Be a detective and solve a mystery, dust for prints, observe crime scenes, and learn the science of forensics from guest speakers! With aspects of mystery, investigating, creative writing, and presentations, we will crack the case! We will explore different types of music, make our own instruments, create alter egos, and have epic jam sessions. At the end of the week, each camper will have the opportunity to perform. Travel to the final frontier as we explore the “Star Trek” phenomenon. Then it’s 3…2…1 liftoff, as we build and set off rockets! Our mission also includes a “Journey to Space” and then we step aboard the Space Shuttle Trainer at the Seattle Flight Museum. Facility Members: $169 Ages: 6-12 Program Member: $179 C H MT Embark on the adventure of a lifetime as campers re-imagine a galaxy far, far away. This Star Wars themed camp embraces all the fun nuances of the films while encouraging children to explore their imagination and start their Jedi training. Try your luck at hitting our piñata, playing fiesta-inspired games, and dancing to the Macarena! We will have fun learning about Spanish Culture, and let’s not forget about our campfire nachos! Engage in traditional camp activities like storytelling, songs, and s’mores around the campfire. End the week with swimming and an overnight campout under the stars at Millersylvania State Park on Thursday! Campers will learn swimming techniques and water safety for swimming pools, rivers, and lakes. End the week with an all-day field trip to Wild Waves Theme Park on Friday. Facility Member: $169 Ages: 7-14 Program Member: $179 VARIETY FUNPACK B Mariners’ Magic: Hear the crack of the bat, feel the vibrations of stomping feet and the roar of the crowd as the Mariners work their magic against the Yankees. Sing and dance along to familiar tunes, in hopes of getting to see your moves on the Jumbotron. Blast From the Past: Visit Fort Nisqually to learn about the pioneers and their survival skills. See their artwork, listen to stories and play games from that time period. And to round out the week, there’ll be fun competitions, relays, swimming, and games. The environment is bound by complex relations ranging from the 137 organisms that rely on salmon, to very important plant-pollinator connections to…you guessed it, humans! We are partnering with Thurston County Conservation District to explore these concepts throughout the week at Tolmie State Park, Nisqually Wildlife Refuge, and Lake Cushman! Facility Member: $169 Ages: 6-12 Program Member: $179 ZOO TO YOU? B Lions, tigers, and bears, Oh My! For animal enthusiasts, we’ll learn about animal habitats and behaviors through crafts and games. We’ll take field trips to Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium and the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle. Facility Member: $169 Ages: 6-12 Program Member: $179 AT Y-CAMP, ADVENTURE AWAITS! RESIDENT CAMP Come spend the week at YMCA Camp Bishop! CB Your kids will enjoy a classic, All-American, resident camp experience at YMCA Camp Bishop! Nestled along the banks of Lost Lake in the woods of Shelton, YMCA Camp Bishop has everything kids love: swimming, kayaking, and campfires. Your child will create memories to last a lifetime! Join Teen Xtreme Camp and have the opportunity to make friends and see new places, while building confidence and skills. Get Infant CPR and First Aid Certified. Hike Mt. Rainier, explore Mt. St. Helens Ape Caves, and test your skills at the Great Wolf Lodge Ropes Course for a summer to remember! Facility Member: $249 Ages: 11-15 Program Member: $259 JUNIOR LEADER D As a junior leader, kids will have the same great camp experience while learning about leadership and being a part of a team. Junior leaders will be a part of our traditional camp ratio and will be called upon to help now and then. With the help of our staff and C.I.T’s, junior leaders will get to experience a new side of camp. Junior leaders will learn skills that will stay with them for the rest of their lives and have the chance to shine like a Y star! DEPOSITS ARE TRANSFERABLE BUT NOT REFUNDABLE. CAMP SPECIFIC FIELD TRIPS ARE INCLUDED IN THE COST OF CAMP. Refund policy (please read) All cancellations must be made in writing by completing the Credit and Refund Request Form, available at the Briggs YMCA, Olympia Downtown YMCA, or YMCA Child Development Office. Refunds will be reviewed and processed within 7 days. A $20 nonrefundable deposit per week of camp is required for registration. Cancellations and changes must be made by the Monday prior to the week of camp. Refunds are available and the deposit is transferable (if signing up for a different week of camp) only if changes are requested by the Monday prior to the week of camp. No refunds are allowed after payment due date. Refunds will be available in the form of system credits, by check, or by credit card (credit card refunds are available only if payment was originally made with credit card). A $5 processing fee will apply to refunds originally paid by check or cash. Refunds are subject to approval.
