and many other fast riders from 13 countries behind the gate it’s easy to see why the second round of the Dutch Open
Championship in Oldebroek was billed a ‘mini-Grand Prix’! 24MX Honda Racing rider Jens Getteman took seventh overall
and looks well placed for a strong result in his very first Dutch MX1 Grand Prix, next weekend in Valkenswaard. Factory
Honda rider Evgeny Bobryshev dominated both motos, the Russian also continues to lead the series.
With the Oldebroek race on Saturday in the books Getteman and his team mate Nikolaj Larsen were due to race in
Wuustwezel on Sunday. Unfortunately Belgium woke up under a blanket of snow and the organizers decided to cancel.
However the seemingly endless Belgian winter didn’t stop Larsen who went to train in Lommel! Nikolaj will continue the
preparation for his first GP of the season in Belgium this week together with his brother and trainer Emil. Getteman enjoyed
an easy day of recuperation today.
No snow but all the same it was freezing cold in Oldebroek, in the eastern province Gelderland. Getteman had a slow start
around 20th position in the opening moto but he rode strongly and pushed on from 11th after the opening lap to a fine
seventh place behind Max Nagl. Jens grabbed the limelight again in the second sprint. After he made good jump from the
line the CRF450R-mounted Belgian circulated in fifth for twelve laps. When Strijbos and Nagl increased the pressure the
24MX Honda Racing rider lost two places. Still he managed to regain his composure and keep Nagl in his sight until he
reached the finish line.
Jens Getteman (24MX Honda Racing): “At the start of the day, everything was still frozen. Luckily the track developed
nicely so at least the sand started to resemble Valkenswaard! My riding was good and I was pleasantly surprised by my
speed. In the second moto I got off to a pretty good start, without pushing particularly hard I remained fifth for more than
half race distance. Actually I sort of expected the fastest guys to come by much earlier! I had two laps where I made too
many mistakes, this is when Strijbos and Nagl came by. In both motos I made up some ground on Nagl near the end. So
for sure Oldebroek was encouraging in preparation for the Dutch Grand Prix. Although I realize that riders like Max (Nagl),
Kevin (Strijbos) are still quite a bit quicker and they go consistently fast. This is something I’m continuously working on to
improve.”
Nikolaj Larsen (24MX Honda Racing): “I had loved to race in Wuustwezel today, unfortunately the snow had a will of its
own! It’s a shame that I couldn’t race but that’s how it is. In practice it’s been going good to build up my speed again. And
the shoulder feels fine now. Only when I have been riding a lot it feels a bit sore at the end of the day. The coming week will
be a matter of putting hours on the clock to regain the feeling you need to compete at the highest level. With some
suspension testing and more riding in the sand I should be ready to go for Valkenswaard! For me the key going into the GP
is to stay relaxed. I know I’m a little bit behind, but my season is long and foremost I want to go out and enjoy myself on
the track!”
