Sun Valley is one of our favorite places, and we look forward to spending time with you there this September. As Idaho’s original resort destination, Sun Valley is a perfect venue for the Idaho Governor’s Cup. I hope you are as excited as we are to see the renovations at the Sun Valley Lodge and the new spa and pool. We will be among the first guests to enjoy the wonderful new amenities. The Governor’s Cup is in its 41st year. We are so proud of how this event continues to grow and so thankful for our continuing supporters as well as the new sponsors we welcome each year. Thank you. We have set a new record for fundraising for the Idaho Governor’s Cup Scholarship Fund each year. Last year in Coeur d’Alene we raised a little over $1.1 million. We hope to once again raise the bar this year! All the Idaho students who applied for the Idaho Governor’s Cup Scholarship are exceptional young people. This year we were able to give a record 38 scholarships and during our administration we have helped 183 great Idaho kids attend college right here at home. Growing this scholarship fund so we can help many more students is our goal, as well as an important investment in Idaho’s future. The Idaho Governor’s Cup Scholarship The Idaho Governor’s Cup Scholarship is available to high school seniors and home school students throughout Idaho. All proceeds from the Idaho Governor’s Cup are dedicated to funding this program. Academic and professional-technical awards are offered to those students who plan to further their education at an Idaho college or university and who demonstrate a strong commitment to public service. Academic scholarship recipients receive $3,000 each year, renewable up to four years, while scholarship recipients pursuing a professional-technical education or trade school education receive $3,000 per year for the length of the program, up to three years. By participating in this year’s event, you provide more opportunities for Idaho students to further their education in our great state. For more information about the scholarship, please visit the State Board of Education website at www.boardofed.idaho.gov/scholarship/gov_cup.asp We look forward to seeing you in Sun Valley for a wonderful weekend of golf, fly fishing, shotgun sports, evening entertainment and most of all great friends and great fun. “Thank you very much for supporting my college education in agribusiness at the University of Idaho by contributing to the Idaho Governor’s Scholarship program. I greatly appreciate the effort put into students like me to help pursue our passion so that we may meet our career goals. As Always, Idaho – “Esto Perpetua” Growing up on a family native grass seed farm on the Camas Prairie of Northern Idaho has developed in me a love for agriculture. Because I have an older brother who graduated from the University of Idaho this spring and is home to take over the family farm, I have decided to go a different route in agriculture and study the marketing side of the grass seed business. My ultimate career goal is to market native grass seed, which is an occupation where I can still be connected to the family farm. My deeps roots come from spending my summers picking weeds out of fields, servicing equipment, operating combine, and driving truck, and I love it. Because of your help, I am one step closer to a successful future.” – Sarah Mosman C.L. “Butch” Otter Governor of Idaho Lori J. I have worked hard over the years in school and have been able to expand my education outside the classroom, including volunteering at St. Luke’s Hospital. Idaho has given me so much and I will do everything in my power to make sure to honor your belief in me. I would love to give back to the generous committee one day by playing in the Idaho Governor’s Cup tournament so that I can help students like me in the future. This scholarship will definitely help my family by defraying the costs of my undergraduate degree so I can continue to medical school which has been my dream since I was very young. Thank you so much for making it possible for me to continue my education at Boise State. I am excited for my bright future in medicine and beyond.” – Kinsley Bonfilio Graduate of Bishop Kelly High School Attending Boise State University “I must thank you for providing me with the greatest sense of freedom I have felt in some time. My father spent almost a decade undergoing the process of emigrating here legally from his home in El Salvador in search of a safer place with greater opportunity to start a family. He then found work at the JR Simplot Company and married my mother. Growing up we did not have much, but my parents worked hard to ensure that we were never left wanting. As such, I have long felt that my only goal should be to ensure that their work was not in vain. For me, obtaining a post-secondary education at no cost to them was the greatest way of doing so. My goals in college are to obtain a PhD. in Nuclear Engineering and simply continue my pursuit of knowledge. Having the opportunity to continue learning is indescribably exhilarating for me, and it is this passion that allows me to assure you that I will truly make the most of this wonderful gift.” – Jonathan Flores Graduate of Thomas Jefferson Charter School Attending the University of Idaho Sponsors as of June 3, 2015 Premier Sponsors Silver Sponsors Major Sponsors Bronze Sponsors Gold Sponsors Hole Sponsors Idaho Financial Services Association ® A Professional Law Corporation Lodging Room Rates Sun Valley Lodge: The Governor’s Cup Room Block is open and they are currently taking reservations. Golf About the Golf Courses Men and women have the opportunity to play golf together on two spectacular courses, the Sun Valley Resort Golf Course and Elkhorn Golf Club. Golfers who have an established USGA handicap of 36 or less are eligible to play in either the individual and team stroke format, or the team scramble format, handicaps will be verified by August 28. There will be three flights of gross and net individual play and in addition, each day will have a team event with winners determined by the best two scores of the foursomes. There will be a “net” score component to the golf scramble tournament. We will continue to have a “gross” contest as we have in the past. Winners will be named in both the “gross” and “net” contests in 2015. In order to manage the “net” component of the tournament, we need to calculate a team handicap for each team playing in the “net” format. If you have an established handicap please enter it in the box titled “known handicap” when you register online. If you do not have a handicap, please enter your estimated usual average score for 18 holes in the box titled “usual score.” A golf professional will assign a handicap for each player who enters a usual score. Tournament rounds begin on Friday morning and continue through Saturday and will be played on both the Sun Valley Resort Course and Elkhorn Golf Club. A listing of teams and the course you play first will be available at registration. We do not accommodate requests to play a certain course on a certain day. If you are playing both days of the tournament you will have the opportunity to play both courses. A boxed lunch will be provided on Friday and Saturday. Please note that while tournament and practice round green fees are included in your registration, tee times and pairings for the practice round on Thursday, September 10 are your responsibility to set up. Please contact the pro shops directly. Sun Valley Resort Golf Course 208-622-2251 Elkhorn Golf Club 208-622-2271 REGISTRATION IS $1,500 PER PERSON ON OR BEFORE AUGUST 21. Elkhorn Golf Course Originally opened in 1974, Elkhorn Golf Club was created in the last collaboration between the famous design team of father and son Robert Trent Jones Senior and Junior. After an extensive renovation in 2004, the club reopened in 2005 and was acquired by the Sun Valley Company in July of 2011. Robert Trent Jones Sr. designed the front nine, which is quite hilly, while Robert Trent Jones Jr. designed the back nine which follows a creek and has a water hazard on every hole but one. With large undulated greens, 7,214 yards long from the tips, and boasting over 100 sand traps and bunkers, Elkhorn will prove to be a test of your golfing abilities. Your concentration on the game of golf will also be challenged, as the vistas ranging from the Elkhorn hillsides to Sun Valley's White Clouds golf course fight for your attention. Sun Valley’s Trail Creek Golf Course Sun Valley golf was most recently recognized by Golf Digest as one of the top 75 resort courses in North America. Sun Valley’s signature course, Trail Creek, promises to provide a challenging round of golf for every level of player. Robert Trent Jones Jr. designed this traditional alpine course in 1980 with a full compliment of stream carries and ominous bunkers well positioned to catch the errant shot. Play crosses the beautiful Trail Creek seven times on the front nine alone! Coupled with fantastic views of the surrounding mountains and ever-present crystal blue skies, you will find a round of golf on the Trail Creek Course a well-earned addition to any golf resume. Shotgun Sports Firearm Auction Whether you are new to the sport or an experienced shooter, everybody has fun. This year’s event will take place at the Sun Valley Gun Club, located on Trail Creek Road north of the Sun Valley Resort. This year, the shotgun sports event will kick off Wednesday evening, September 9, with a reception for shooters at the Sun Valley Resort. Three days of competitive shooting follows, concluding on Saturday. At the 2015 Idaho Governor’s Cup we are pleased to be able to offer this special firearm for auction, during Saturday’s award ceremony. It is an example of rare innovation, presented by Tactical Export Strategies, together with 13 Idaho manufacturers and distributors, with help from the Idaho Department of Commerce. Participants will shoot 250 total targets for score. Prizes will be awarded for each shooting event, 1st, 2nd and 3rd highest scores in each category and high team score. There will be three categories of shooting participants with programs commensurate with shooting experience. The All-Idaho Gun, manufactured and sourced from all Idaho companies is one of only two identical models of this firearm in existence. This firearm, is unique and designed specifically for the Idaho Governor’s Cup. It was displayed in Las Vegas earlier this year in the Idaho Department of Commerce’s booth at S.H.O.T. Show 2015. • Occasional Shooters: Includes persons who have experience shooting a shotgun or some experience shooting clay targets.
