Organisers - Coaltrans Conferences
Organisers Coaltrans Conferences organises the world’s largest coal conferences, which attract delegates from all over the world. It also runs focused regional events, exhibitions, field trips and training courses. It has a reputation for employing the highest organisational standards. In 2003, Coaltrans will run and organise events in Austria, China, Indonesia, USA and the UK COURSE The primary objective of this intensive residential course is to provide participants with a sound background and understanding of all the main aspects of mining and costs. The knowledge gained will allow participants to be more effective in their own business environment and provide them with an understanding of mining operations. Delegates will not be limited to the coal industry, as the principles and course syllabus will also be applicable for personnel from other mining sector operations. COURSE LOCATION Bob King & Associates a group of over 15 independent companies who are among the market leaders in their respective fields within the Indonesian and Asian coal industries. Based in Indonesia and specialising in all aspects of coal, including survey, exploration, geological modeling, mine planning, due diligence evaluations, innovative new mining methods to reduce costs, infrastructure design, contract mining and barging, safety and the environment, coal market analyses, industry introductions, insurance, finance and legal. 2 It is important for delegates to reinforce their learning by visiting an operating mine. Therefore this event is being held in Balikpapan, Kalimantan, Indonesia, an important coal producing region. There will be a strong emphasis in the course on ‘best mining practices’ applied not only in Indonesia but throughout the world. DELEGATES WILL LEARN: ■ A technical understanding and appreciation of all the main stages in mining, from survey to exploration, geological modeling, geotechnical issues, mine planning, drill and blasting, material handling systems, mobile mining equipment types and applications, processing, mining contractor operations, mine services, the economics of mining, environmental and rehabilitation works. ■ An appreciation of the costs involved in the mining process. Skills learnt can be quickly applied in practical operations to give cost-effective and profitable results. ■ How to provide ‘hands-on’ learning to resolve mining issues and problems through a series of specially designed case studies. WHO SHOULD ATTEND? ■ Executives who are new to the mining industry, or who interact or interface in some way with mining but have a limited knowledge in this field. While technical in nature, the course is not mathematical nor complex and should be well within the grasp of delegates. This course requires a high level of commitment over five days by way of individual learning and group contribution. ■ Mine site staff including junior geologists and mining engineers, mine foreman, maintenance and support personnel, surveyors. ■ Non-technical staff, mine administration, accountants, senior executives or head office staff. ■ Bankers, mining analysts, and legal executives. ■ Shipping and transport companies, inspection companies, port and terminal operators. ■ Coal buyers, traders, end consumers such as power utility, steel and cement company executives. ■ Any service company to the mining industry or equipment suppliers. ■ Government officials and NGO’s. Please register your choice of visit on the delegate registration form on page 6. PT Adaro Indonesia Adaro is Indonesia’s largest coal producer with sales in 2002 of 21.2MT. Delegates will view mining operations at the Tutupan pit with multiple coal seams of 20 meters in thickness, travel down the 75km haul road and view operations at the Kelanis processing and bargeloading facility, which has a throughput capacity of 22MT per year. carriers of up to 220,000 DWT. The remote location necessitates full supporting infrastructure, including a power station, housing, schools, hospitals, water supply and recreational facilities. Production reached 17.7MT in 2002 and is forecast to be 18.2 MT in 2003 by moving 148M bank cubic metres of overburden. KPC produces three coal brands Prima, Pinang and Melawan - and is now Indonesia's and one of the world's KALIMANTAN largest PT. Kaltim Prima export Coal (KPC) coal mines. PT Kaltim Prima Coal The operation includes a series of open cut pits, coal preparation facilities, 13km overland conveyor to the coast and a world class marine terminal capable of handling bulk ur website on www.coaltransconferences.com BALIKPAPAN • PT.
