This work should serves as a reflection for the quality of life we want to live. ∂ Catie Olson Tree-rings The Franklin / Floor Length and Tux/ Spiderbug These tree-rings are made from a tree cut down from our yard due to some water issues. On a wire hanger armature resides vinyl records, referee whistles, bells, and bones, moving with varied wind currents like distant souls of a former ghost-you; we will shoot video footage and edit the present. Other Special Events as part of CHIME IN CHIME IN Public Practice Event Saturday, October 26, 2013, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm As part of the WIND CHIME exhibition at the Garfield Park Conservatory and the ongoing Public Practice Series instrument players, singers, and performers of all levels and ages are invited to practice in public and get better together during this special weekend art celebration. Bring your instrument, and play twinkle, twinkle, little star under our Sacred Fig, practice that aria you are polishing up for the Met near the Historic Hawthorns, or perform a piece of spoken word next to the tall horsetail in the Fern Room. Grab a music stand if you need one, park yourself anywhere on the Conservatory grounds, and showcase your effort to others. All ages welcome. ∂ FIRE TRUCK TROLLEY (Dalmatian included) Saturday October 26, 2013, 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm Sunday October 27, 2013, 12:00 pm - 6:00 pm The Garfield Park Conservatory, a central location of the East Garfield Park neighborhood, hosts a vintage Fire Truck Trolley, which shuttles visitors to other East Garfield Park art and culture “hot spots,” including the Lake and Kedzie market space, Najwa Dance Corps at the Gold Dome, the Switching Station Artist’s Lofts, and more. Trolley leaves from front of Conservatory every ½ hour. CHIME IN is a special East Garfield Park “Art in the Neighborhood” weekend celebration at the Garfield Park Conservatory, as part of Chicago Artist Month. The weekend activities at the Conservatory include spoken word, poetry, music, performance, and wind chime inspired exhibits by local artists. Performers and activities for this evening include: •Theaster Gates, speaking on his expanded artistic practice, public art, funding, and community engagement •Marvin Tate, poet and singer •Awthentik, spoken word artist •David Houston, Chicago West Community Center •Krystele Matthews, body paint artist, stenciling Conservatory leaf patterns on visitors so they can BLEND IN to the surroundings and the evening In addition to the people-powered sound of this evening, exploration of the outdoor WIND CHIME exhibit highlights the wind powered sound in the trees of the Conservatory’s outdoor grounds as interpreted by local East Garfield Park and other west side artists. Snacks, beer, wine, and food trucks also on the docket for this evening!
