EW N 3CX ECO AND 4CX ECO BACKHOE LOADER A Product of Hard Work The new 3CX ECO and 4CX ECO are the most efficient and productive backhoe loaders ever built. Through the use of innovative ECODIG, ECOLOAD and ECOROAD technologies, they offer fuel savings of up to £4,337 over three years. SAVE £4,337 WORTH OF FUEL OVER 3 YEARS A history of innovation The world’s first… and still the best In 1953, Joseph Cyril Bamford built the first Major Loader using his own concept as the basis for the design. That simple machine evolved into what we know today as the backhoe loader, and ever since then JCB’s machines have continued to revolutionise the construction job site. Having pioneered the backhoe loader, JCB continued to improve on its first concept design. By employing advanced engineering principles, we expanded the machine’s capabilities and many of our leading innovations have since become standard features on backhoe loaders throughout the industry. Four-wheel drive, extending dippers, torque converter drive, powershift transmissions, all-wheel steer, sideshift chassis, powerslide backhoe, skid steer backhoe: all JCB world firsts. JCB built its reputation as the world leader in backhoe loaders by making its machines increasingly productive, dependable and efficient on the job site, and by fostering a level of operator comfort unequalled by other manufacturers. As a result, the JCB backhoe loader has outsold all of its competitors globally. Efficient design Redesigning and refocusing the world’s number one backhoe loader was an opportunity to, yet again, lead the way in machine innovation and reset the standard for diggers the world over. With an ever-more competitive market and rising fuel prices, improving efficiency has also become a key factor to business success. JCB’s efficient design philosophy looks at every aspect of our machines, applying innovative technologies to squeeze the absolute maximum out of every drop of fuel and making the new 3CX ECO and 4CX ECO our most efficient backhoes ever. The result of these innovations is that in typical roading, loading, excavating and idle cycles our new backhoe loaders deliver an average fuel saving of up to 16%, plus lower emissions and noise levels. And with an extended period between fill ups you get a longer, more productive working day. These ECO models are without a doubt more efficient than any other backhoe loader on the market today – we are still the world’s best. The 3CX ECO and 4CX ECO are our most efficient backhoes ever BHL | INTRODUCTION 1953 JCB MK1 Major Loader 1957 JCB Hydra-Digga Loadall 1958 JCB Hydra-Digga Loadall 65 1960 JCB 4 1962 1961 JCB 4C JCB 3 1963 JCB 3C 1963 JCB 1 1967 JCB 3C MKII 1964 JCB 2 1980 JCB 3D 1994 JCB 1CX 1964 1967 1967 1967 1967 JCB 2B MKII 1968 JCB 3D MKII 1977 JCB 3D MKIII 1968 JCB 4D MKII 1970 JCB 3 MKIII 1984 1985 1990 1988 JCB 3CX (P7) 2004 JCB 2B 1981 JCB 3CX Sitemaster 1995 JCB 3CX Super JCB 3D JCB 4CN 2002 JCB 3CX (P21) 2009 JCB 3CX Contractor Pro JCB 4D 1970 1977 1980 1991 1991 1992 1995 JCB 2DX 1997 JCB 2CX Super 1997 JCB 3CX (P12) 1998 JCB 3CX Contractor 2002 JCB 4CX (P21) 2002 JCB 4CXM (2001 JCB 2CX MKIII) 2005 2007 2007 2010 JCB 3 MKII JCB 2D JCB 3C MKIII JCB 3CX (P200) 1971 JCB 2D MKII JCB 3CX Hammermaster JCB Mini CX JCB 2CX JCB 3C JCB 3CX Sitemaster (P8) JCB HMEE JCB 4CX Sitemaster JCB Midi CX JCB 2CX MKII 1992 JCB 2CX Streetmaster JCB 3CX NEW efficiencies improve profitability Reduced fuel, carbon and noise One of our most significant innovations on our ECO backhoe loaders is EcoDig; a three-pump hydraulic system that allows the same high hydraulic flow and pressure but at lower engine speeds, for up to 15% improvement in fuel economy when excavating. Plus, operating at lower engine revs reduces engine carbon emissions (by up to 15%) and engine wear, prolongs intervals between refuelling for better productivity and further lowers JCB’s already class-leading noise levels, improving the operator experience. This innovation is standard on all Manual Control and EasyControl machines; Advanced EasyControl machines have a variable displacement pump which already provides superb digging efficiency. Increased productivity The new high-performance three-pump hydraulic system also increases Extradig, extending dipper speed and boosting productivity without affecting any other hydraulic service performance. This makes it easier for the operator to combine excavator functions simultaneously, reducing cycle times and cutting operator effort for less fatigue throughout the working day The EcoDig system is controlled by a two-position rocker switch on the main console in the cab. This control offers the operator a choice between an ECO mode, maximum efficiency and digging potential mode, or Lo mode, an ultimate machine control for fine grading and delicate groundworks profiling applications. In an industry first, JCB has developed an Efficiency Calculator to help determine exactly the efficiency gains that are possible with the 3CX ECO and 4CX ECO backhoe loader. The innovative JCB Efficiency Calculator allows you to set your operating details and fuel costs demonstrating the possible ownership cost savings. Featuring JCB’s patented TorqueLock technology (the world’s first lock-up torque converter fitted to a backhoe loader), EcoRoad actually reduces fuel consumption by up to 25% whilst increasing speed by up to 10%, and working area by up to 10%. In addition, the Hydraulic Speed Control (HSC) automatically disconnects the first hydraulic pump when in fourth gear, again with the result of reducing fuel consumption and increasing on-road efficiency. And of course, the entire JCB powertrain has been specifically designed for these machines, ensuring high efficiency and minimal losses for best tractive effort and low fuel consumption. All of this results in reduced cost of ownership, increased roading productivity, longer working operation and increased profitability. JCB powertrain Automotive-inspired power braking JCB’s already class-leading braking performance has now been further enhanced on our ECO machines through the introduction of power brakes, providing proportional braking throughout the pedal travel for improved braking effort and control. The design of our power brakes utilises the existing hydraulic supply removing the need for a separate brake reservoir, reducing operator costs and the number of daily service checks We have also redesigned and lowered the pedal position for improved ergonomics and operator comfort, and we have achieved full brake pad release, reducing drag, maintaining road speed for longer and improving fuel economy. JCB DIESELMAX engine BHL | ECOROAD NEW efficiencies improve profitability Load more, more quickly At the loader end of our new ECO machines, thanks to EcoLoad along with high lift capacities and breakout forces, and of course the outstanding DIESELMAX engine, you can count on lifting and shifting more, faster - these are the most efficient loaders in their class. First, our return to dig feature automatically resets the shovel into the digging position. Then the selectable transmission disconnect diverts maximum hydraulic power from the engine to the loader arms, so it’s quicker to lift the load. Incredible productivity EcoLoad also features a Hydraulic Speed Control (HSC) switch which – combined with high torque at low engine speed from our DIESELMAX engine – gives more tractive effort, faster cycle times, SRS features a nitrogen gas piston accumulator to cushion the load excellent pushing power and hill climbing performance. HSC also allows you to select one pump for finer, more precise grading, while in challenging conditions our LSD (limited slip differential) axles automatically kick in to provide additional traction. JCB’s 6-speed autoshift transmission features finer ratio gears for greater pushing power, whilst a floor-mounted transmission kickdown switch allows the operator to downshift to a lower gear on the move for an 18% increase in pushing power. And of course, we have also included our 4-ram parallel lift loader arms providing unhindered visibility to the front shovel, especially when loading at height, and Smooth Ride System (SRS) technologies, resulting in excellent load retention and operator comfort when travelling over rough ground and on the road. Floor-mounted transmission kick down switch BHL | ECOLOAD Remarkable versatility Innovations and options A combination of backhoe innovations and options allows the new ECO machines to set new, technologically advanced standards in performance and productivity. Combined hammer and bi-directional circuit Increasing attachment compatibility and versatility, this brand new option provides both low-flow and high-flow hydraulic power, with low back pressure maintaining optimum flow to the attachment. The circuit operates independently of the extending dipper and is capable of operating a wide range of single and double acting attachments. Hammer only, or hammer and bi-directional options are available. Handheld tool circuit This allows you to operate a wide range of handheld tools using the backhoe loader as a power source, for increased versatility. Handheld tool circuit Knuckleboom The 4CX ECO features a knuckleboom option (4CN) which has a 30º articulation angle between the boom and dipper giving a working envelope of 240º. This allows you to dig in areas simply not possible with a conventional backhoe, such as around objects like trees, telegraph poles or lamp posts; parallel alongside a road while keeping the machine on the road; or even towards the front of the machine. Front quickhitch with integrated pallet forks This allows the operator to remove the front shovel and fit a wide range of attachments. With a choice of mechanical or hydraulic locking, the integrated quickhitch gives best-in-class visibility and doubles the lift capacity to 2000kg. Customers operating JCB Loadall telescopic handlers who are used to the JCB Q-fit quickhitch can now also choose this option on the backhoe loader, allowing the same attachments to fit both Loadall and backhoe. Knuckleboom BHL | VERSATILITY Hose reel JCB already offers an industry exclusive independent hydraulic supply for operating handheld tools. A new 9m hose reel option increases working radius, reduces potential damage during use, protects the hose during storage and does away with the need for a separate powerpack, which can often be at risk of theft. Handheld tools and the excavator can operate at the same time, increasing productivity. The hose reel meets the EHTMA class C tool operation standard and features: low back pressures,138 bar pressure and 20 lpm flow. Stabiliser street pads Another key feature for the utilities sector is the street pads option which, like the Powerslide system, also eliminates any possible damage to tarmac or paved surfaces caused by the stabiliser feet. Front bumper protection bars The 3CX ECO can be equipped with front bumper protection bars, protecting the bonnet and front grill from damage when loading into lorries and trailers. Three steer modes The 4CX ECO comes with three selectable steer modes - twowheel steer, four-wheel steer and crab steer. Two-wheel steer is designed for general everyday use in and around the building site; four-wheel steer for working where space is limited; and crab steer to position or manoeuvre the backhoe close to or away from a wall or building. 6-in-1 shovel Allows the ability to dig, doze, load, grab, grade and backfill all from one attachment increasing the machines versatility. Dozing Loading Grabbing Grading Digging Backfilling Hose reel Powerslide Another world first, JCB Powerslide hydraulically sideshifts the backhoe for less effort and reduces the chance of any site damage to tarmac or paved surfaces, making it ideal for the utilities sector. Four-wheel steer Two-wheel steer Crab-steer mode Excavator lifting kit The optional 5-tonne lifting kit further enhances machine versatility, allowing the excavator arm to become a crane for object handling. It also features a boom hose burst check valve (HBCV) and an audio warning alarm as standard. Powerslide Fatigue-free, productive working Operator comforts JCB backhoe loaders are designed around the operator to give fatigue-free, productive daylong working. Take a look at our luxury heated air suspension seat and you’ll see why cab comfort, ergonomics and styling are best-in-class. As are noise and vibration levels, thanks to the rubber-mounted, isolated cab. loaders, we have integrated a hot drinks machine option into the cab to provide you with a delicious cup of hot tea or coffee throughout the day; making a well-earned break even more relaxing. A cab pre-heating option (Eberspacher cold climate heater) can be set to warm the cab automatically without starting the engine, so you can benefit from extra time in bed! The optional heated windscreen speeds up defrosting too. In addition, and exclusive to JCB backhoe Clarity, inside and out The in-cab side console features laser-etched image switches backlit by a crisp white light. These turn to red when pressed, making it much clearer for the operator and giving a more modern in-cab feel. The side console also features an LCD (liquid crystal display) informing the operator of machine hours and time to next service interval, along with an audio alarm for when the fuel level is getting low or in emergencies, such as low oil pressure or a blocked air filter. Furthermore, the 360° view through the tinted windows is superb, enhancing on-site safety. In particular, the one-piece rear windscreen, with its innovative scoop design, lets you see right into the trench when excavating. BHL | COMFORT In-cab coolbox Keep all your essential refreshments cool and to hand, so you can stay in the field for elevenses, lunch, etc. Heated front screen An optional heated front screen removes any built-up frost and ice, so there is no need to climb across the machine on a cold, frosty morning to clear the windscreen, which means you can get to site a lot sooner and more safely. Keypad immobiliser and unique key An optional JCB keypad immobiliser adds to machine protection and allows the operator to key in a sequence of numbers to activate the starting of the machine. During this time, development has gone hand-in-hand with the most demanding tests imaginable, putting the machines through every thinkable exercise in all climates, including arctic conditions. We’ve assessed many prototypes, pre-builds and pre-production models, all of which have had to confirm their metal in rigorous bench testing, vehicle lab and track testing, and field testing. We also carried out extensive EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) testing to ensure that signals from mobile phones and radio don’t affect the machine in any way, and additional testing to standards far higher than competitor machines. The culture of testing to maintain excellence continues through to the production line, with every new backhoe loader being put through around 600 performance checks before we’re satisfied. And if it meets JCB standards, you know it’s a machine to rely on. Cold climate testing Proving their worth • Rig testing of components to accurately simulate working situations – Hydraulic hoses are approved to work down to -40°C – All materials are tested to extreme temperatures and exposed to chemical, salt, oil and sunlight to ensure maximum protection in the most hostile conditions • Testing beyond the expected lifetime of a backhoe loader – 100,000 loading cycles – 500,000 excavating cycles – 360,000 gearchange cycles • Extensive bump track testing to validate structural integrity of the machine • 1000s of hours of endurance testing • Tested across the globe in every conceivable application Water test BHL | RELIABILITY Meticulous quality control of every machine Thorough checks, conducted throughout the entire build process, are complemented by: • Gruelling hot test analysing the whole vehicle including engine, transmission, hydraulics and brakes • Paint quality testing to highlight defects and blemishes • Intensive PDI process to ensure impeccable quality control Cold climate testing Thorough testing in Arctic conditions, both in the cold cell and in the Arctic Circle, included everything from engine starting, transmission and hydraulic performance to door seals, locks and de-icing. The cooling system was extensively tested in extreme temperatures to ensure the optimum operating temperatures are maintained in the engine, transmission and hydraulic systems. Built-in quality and protection The heavy-duty chassis construction at the heart of the new backhoe loader ECO has been designed to house all the major features, making it capable of withstanding the day-to-day abuse of working in tough applications. Meanwhile the narrow boom and dipper design gives the operator maximum visibility down both sides of the excavator arm and into the trench, and the hydraulic hoses run within the fabrication for maximum protection. Putting you in complete control At JCB, when we design any machine we put ourselves in the position of the operator to ensure unsurpassed levels of productivity. With our new ECO backhoes, this means offering a choice of three control types to suit every possible requirement, allowing everyone from the most experienced backhoe operator to the excavatortrained novice to achieve the very highest levels of productivity and profitability, Manual control For many operators, Manual Control remains the standard for operating a backhoe loader. On this system, both the excavator and loader controls are manual floor-mounted levers. At JCB we recognise that some more traditional operators still prefer this way of working and indeed, can use it to achieve superb levels of productivity. So we continue to offer this system that so many know and love. Manual Control offers a choice of three control patterns to help you achieve exactly the digging position and control you’re used to and prefer: JCB X (Diagonal); SAE+ (boom left, dipper right) and ISO+ (dipper left, boom right), the last of which is based on excavator and mini excavator control patterns. EasyControl More of today’s operators are opting for servo controls because of the ergonomic benefits of fingertip control, a more comfortable digging position, and greater visibility when excavating. In addition, many operators learn on excavators and minis which tend to offer servo controls as standard. For these reasons, we have introduced EasyControl, a system which moves excavator controls from floor to seat, significantly improving visibility and comfort, and features servos for a light touch. EasyControl gives similar hydraulic feel and feedback to the Manual Control system. There’s a choice of SAE+ and ISO+ control patterns (including an option to switch between the two), and the seatmounted controls allow you to operate the excavator while facing to the side, giving you the benefit of greater comfort and visibility. Advanced EasyControl Advanced EasyControl is the ultimate in backhoe loader controls, with the same excavator operation as EasyControl. The main difference is that Advanced EasyControl also offers servo controls for the loader, via the right-hand seat-mounted joystick rather than a floor-mounted control lever. SAE+ or ISO+ control patterns are available, or there is the option to switch between the two to tailor the machine for different operator preferences. High output variable flow hydraulics provide full flow on demand for increased fuel efficiency, faster digging cycles and maximum productivity. Combined with flowsharing which proportions the hydraulic flow to give exceptionally smooth operation, this system is most similar to excavators and minis. In addition the seat-mounted controls allow you to operate the excavator while facing to the side, giving you the benefit of greater comfort and visibility. BHL | CONTROL Manual Control EasyControl EasyControl Advanced How it works • Two floor-mounted levers control the excavator operations, providing excellent feel and feedback of the hydraulics, while the loader is operated via a manual floor-mounted control lever to the right hand. How it works • The excavator is operated using the two seat-mounted, servocontrol joysticks while the loader is operated via a manual floormounted control lever to the right hand. JCB LiveLink is a software system that enables JCB owners to monitor and manage their machines remotely. All you need is a PC connected to the internet. The LiveLink computer is built into the machine where it collects information from a number of sensors. This information is sent, using mobile communications technology, to JCB’s secure data centre. Machine management information is then displayed to users via the LiveLink website, by email or via mobile phone. By providing you with information on the usage and productivity of your fleet, JCB LiveLink enables you to keep track of each machine’s efficiency, ensuring that you get the best value for money possible. By providing information on the location, movement and activity of machines, the system can also assist in ensuring machines are operated at the correct times and helps to protect them from theft. And, JCB LiveLink helps machine owners to confirm that their machines are well maintained and in good health without having to travel around work sites inspecting machines. In response to increasing concerns regarding machine security, we now also offer JCB Guardian as an option on every new JCB machine. JCB Guardian is a package of theft protection and monitoring systems that includes LiveLink telemetry along with *CESAR identification, immobiliser technology and a host of optional locks and guards. It’s your peace of mind solution that can also result in considerable insurance premium savings. *Territory specific JCB | ASSETCARE Flexible aftercare solutions from JCB Assetcare JCB Assetcare is a range of flexible service options designed to ensure you get the very highest standards of machine servicing, no matter what your budget.
