your daughter play during his short stay, which he very much wishes to do. As he is such
an excellent player on the violin (one of Spohr‟s oldest pupils) I thought it might interest
you too to make his acquaintance, and I would therefore like to ask you whether I might
drive to you between 2 and 3 in the afternoon and whether your daughter would be his
guest (and mine too) to play to him. You know what a pleasure that will be and in the
hope that it may happen I remain, yours sincerely, Felix Mendelssohn”. With an
additional letter from Leo Liepmanssohn, dated 20th April 1879, to a “Miss Constance”

Contemporary fine-grain plum-coloured morocco, upper and lower covers with large gilt
central roundel enclosed by elaborate borders tooled in gilt and blind, the outer gilt
border and blind-tooled cornerpieces with palmette and other tools, flat backstrip divided
into panels, each with small tools and pointillé, inner gilt dentelles, pale green endpapers. Small ink-stamp of the Fürstenberg library at Donaueschingen to verso of title
and final leaf. A superb copy, in a handsome contemporary binding, possibly the
dedicatee‟s copy considering the gorgeousness and the Donaueschingen provenance.
