Rehabilitation
An important aspect to improving our pet’s health
and quality of life is the emergence of rehabilitative services. At CVM’s Small Animal Rehabilitation Department, a range of services are offered
to combat ailments such as hip dysplasia, osteoarthritis, neurological conditions, weight loss, postop surgeries and sports related injuries.
Working to combat a variety of ailments,
the Rehab group has a number of modalities
and equipment at their disposal. The aquatic
treadmill is a great method for allowing pets
to exercise while encouraging range of motion
without supporting their full body weight.
Another treatment is the therapeutic ultrasound,
which provides deep tissue heating to assist with
stretching of injured muscles and mobility of
diseased or injured joints.
From therapeutic exercises such as stretching and strengthening to the creation of home
exercise programs or weight loss management,
providing pets with rehabilitative services can
mean the difference between comfort or living
with chronic pain and limited mobility.
Not long ago, many rehab services were
not offered for pets. Thankfully, leaders such
as CVM see the importance of providing such
programs. Whether it be an injured or geriatric
pet or possibly a sporting dog, CVM can improve
their condition, thus their quality of life.
