Dear LCC Members, Although the 2014 season is winding down, the excitement at LCC is amped up! This past week, Coach Janet Carl and I secured a mutually beneficial relationship between LCC and the UC’s Lady Bearcats Golf Team. Joining LCC under this University Membership will be Coach Janet Carl, Assistant Coach Brian Alderson and the eleven young women who make up the team. The Bearcats joined me this week for a CLUB tour and orientation before heading off to the pro shop and course with Chad. Members, please join us in extending the UC Lady Bearcats a warm Losantiville Country Club welcome at their new home course. Off the greens, the bustling dining room confirmed that members are enjoying our LCC Taste of Series and Prime Rib Night. The LCC Taste of Series took our members on a culinary tour of Asia and Latin America in August. Our culinary team is sure to please members’ palates with the Taste of France, Greece, Fall and Germany in the upcoming months. Prime Rib Night was a huge success with members enjoying the tender, perfectly cooked king and queen cuts. At the members’ request, we will feature Prime Rib Night in September and October, so don’t put your steak knife away just yet! Lastly, we have some great CLUB events coming up. Of course, we look forward to seeing you, your family and friends during LCC’s traditional Rosh Hashanah Eve Buffet and Brunch Buffet. If you missed the first one, be sure not to miss LCC’s second Art and Music Gala. This exclusive yet casual event will showcase pieces from local artists who will display their work throughout the Club. Please stroll through the clubhouse, enjoy a cocktail, view beautiful artwork, listen to local musicians and join us for dinner if you’d like. Finally, be sure to join us for LCC’s Halloween Family Event in late October. It’s sure to be a spooktacular celebration!! Please mark these events on your calendar, and know that we’ll be waiting for you at your CLUB. Regards, Jennifer. The cool crisp autumn air is just around the corner, and LCC members will be warm and toasty in their clubhouse as this cool air rolls in. We are pleased to inform the membership that our $11k, 82% efficient clubhouse heater/boiler was replaced this week with a $25k, 94% efficient, stainless steel heater/boiler. I was able to negotiate a great deal which included this new boiler free of charge with a team of engineers who will monitor the system for the next several years. The brief backstory is that upon arrival at LCC, I learned that we had a faulty heater/boiler in our clubhouse that was several years out of warranty. I called the manufacturer, asked questions, demanded answers, monitored the system, reviewed maintenance records and continually reiterated that although the heater/ boiler was out of warranty, it hadn’t worked properly since installation. After several months of perseverance, the manufacturer agreed to provide LCC with a new heater/boiler. The unit was delivered to our door this past Monday! Not only will this keep our members warm, but we will see some utility cost savings as well. From behind-the-scenes, Jennifer. Out With The Old and In With The NEW! On the subject of heaters/boilers, I’m very pleased that we did not have issues with the pool temperature this summer. What most of you don’t know is that days before the pool was opening, our pool heater/boiler broke down. Originally, frigid temperatures were named as the cause of the breakdown. Unfortunately, our insurance did not cover breakdowns due to freezing. However, the more we looked into the equipment, it just did not appear that cold temperatures were the cause. Again, I asked questions, provided information and worked with the insurance company who upon further inspection determined that corrosion of internal parts was the cause of the breakdown. Fortunately, that was covered under our insurance, and we were provided with a brand new $13k heater/boiler for merely paying the $2,500 deductible. With the breakdown occurring only days before the pool was to open, an entire team rushed parts, changed schedules and installed the heater/boiler just in the nick of time….in fact, the night before the pool opened for the season! From behind-the-scenes, Jennifer. DR. RICHARD S. KERSTINE Congratulations to Dr. Kerstine who is being honored by the Cincinnati Eye Institute Foundation for his generous volunteer gifts of time and effort on behalf of The Foundation’s outreach initiatives. As one of the founders of the Cincinnati Eye Institute, Dr. Kerstine has been a leading ophthalmologist in our community and in the region. While most are satisfied to put up their feet after a long and successful career, Dr. Kerstine has carved out a second career as a volunteer at The CEI Foundation’s Roselawn Free Eye Clinic and the Vision Outreach Program that bears his name. Dr. Kerstine’s volunteer efforts also include screening and providing education programs to over 21,200 seniors and minorities in the Greater Cincinnati region. MR. WILLIAM S. MAGNUS On August 7th, Mr. William Magnus rappelled off the 17-story Westin in downtown Cincinnati to raise awareness for the Shatterproof Challenge. He was joined by his daughter, Edie, who you may remember from her work at WKRC back in the 1980s. The two joined forces to fight drug addiction and the shame that goes with it. Mr. Magnus and his daughter support the Shatterproof Challenge which is designed to protect people from addiction and end the stigma and suffering of those affected by the disease. Please join me in congratulating Mr. William Magnus for rappelling off the Westin and standing up for a cause! Please let us know if you are aware of something a LCC member has done in the community so we may recognize him or her. Thanks, Jennifer. Tournedos of Beef Tenderloin C'est si bon! The summer has flown by and we are now entering fall golf, which most feel is the best time to golf during the year. We still have some great golf events ahead of us and the weather should be very comfortable in the coming months. We still have our final Guest Day of the year, the Losantiville Cup, Men’s Closing Day, and the Men’s Fall Classic to go and we look forward to seeing you out on the course for those events. We have crowned our 2014 Club Champions! John Muir is our Men’s Champion and won his finals match over Pete Daugherty by a score of 3&2. Please congratulate them on their great performances and on surviving these great matches against some of the best players in the club. The Women’s Scotch Old Pal finals were just completed as well and the 2014 Champions are Ricki Halper and Sally Cuni. They won a tough match in the finals over Deb Altman and Shelley Tarshis with the final score of the match being a 2&1 victory. I see it all the time. In reality, you are not playing your opponents when you are playing a tennis match, you are playing the ball! First and foremost, you have to react to where the ball is going, what the ball is doing and what you are doing to the ball before you worry about your opponents. ‘Tis the season for colorful leaves and brisk autumn days; However, the winter months with cold weather & holiday festivities are just around the corner. Your CLUB is the perfect venue to host a beautiful holiday celebration with family, friends and co-workers…hassle free. The CLUB is a one-stop-shop with an easy planning process. The CLUB can host celebrations from business holiday receptions for 150, an intimate family dinner for 20 and everything in between. Don’t wait until the holidays are upon us, book your holiday celebration in September!! She lived in the Pleasant Ridge area for forty-one years where she and her husband Dick raised three boys, Mike, Pat and Joe. Pam is the proud grandmother of lovely twin granddaughters, Lorna and Stella, who are the apple of her eye. She began her working career at Losantiville in March, 1989, as secretary to the General Manager, and is currently beginning her 26th year, as part of the “Losantiville Family”. Her children, who were already part of the LCC family, as caddies, encouraged her to go to Losantiville. What a great decision that was! When Pam is not working, besides spending time with her family, she likes to sew, knit, read and work in the yard. Walking is her favorite pastime, and Pam says she is able to choose to think, or not to think, as well as soak in her surroundings. Pam has had the privilege to travel, with her husband of fortyone years and her children, to many places in the US including Kentucky, Michigan, Tennessee, Florida, Las Vegas and all states in between. Pam has also traveled to the Bahamas, but her favorite trip was a cruise to Hawaii. Her bucket list includes a trip to Alaska. She like sports of all sorts, but is an avid Nascar fan. However, you won’t find her glued to the tube to watch anything in its entirety, except Super Bowl Sunday, because the commercials are the best! Animals are a big part of Pam’s life. There will always be a pet or two at her house. She is currently the proud servant of her calico cat, Diego and woman’s best friend, Maddy. Pam confesses that she doesn’t forget the stray, hungry or cold cat(s) of the neighborhood, always providing food and/or shelter, if they wish to stop by. Of course, the Losantiville Wild Life keeps her happy when away from home for the day! Pam is thankful for the members of Losantiville. She notes that the friendships and kindnesses over these many years have meant a lot to her, and truly make her happy to be a part of this organization. What a great place to be!
