Data Download Options…
Recent developments have meant that Hy-Ram can now offer a Joint Data
Download option via a USB Memory Stick. The Stick comes pre-programmed
with bespoke software and allows data capture and subsequent transfer to a
PC. Then by using Hy-Ram’s unique software, the joint data transferred can be
viewed, analysed and presented in a number of ways dependent on operator
requirements. Example images of Hy-Ram’s standard software package are
shown…

Hy-Ram has expanded the range of Superweld Fully-Automatic machines.
To accompany the range of ’field’ machines... Hy-Ram has also developed
’workshop’ units up to 500mm diameter for continual welding on a production
basis.
Working in conjunction with leading fabricated pipe fitting manufacturers, we
have been able to optimise the machine capacity and functions in order to give
a very simple, highly competitive, robust, reliable unit.
The machines are all Fully-Automatic (CNC) format suitable for welding PE, PP,

A new fast and safer method of inserting Gas and Water polyethylene pipe and
cables in existing metallic pipe and ducts. The UIS Power Push™ is an excavator
attachment that allows for a faster, more economic, safe and more compliant
way to insert polyethylene pipe and cable.

UIS Level Head
Historically there have been a number of serious personal injuries / near
misses associated with the handling and manipulation of coiled pipe during
insertion activities. One of the major difficulties encountered whilst pushing /
inserting and winching pipe is when the new main comes into an open service
/ connection excavation pit. Due to the P.E. pipe being coiled, this has stored
energy resulting in the pipe naturally springing upwards. The UIS Level Head™
resolves this problem with ease and is simple to install.

A common occurrence whilst inserting pipe through pushing or winching is that

lightweight yet very robust for ‘in-trench’ conditions... the Frame folds and can be

The principle of operation is that the squeeze is carried out, the Top and Bottom
beams are then mechanically locked together and then the ‘A’ Frame is detatched
and used in conjunction with a second beam set. Using this concept all four squeeze
points are accomplished using just one ‘A’ Frame assembly and one Power Unit.
Available in two options... as shown, with a pneumatic input / hydraulic output
power unit or with a hydraulic hand-pump in lieu of the power unit and ‘spring
return’ hydraulic cylinder.

SOU400 – ‘Controlled Release’ Hydraulic Squeeze Off Unit
Pipe range: 250-400mm Diameter, PE100, 7 Bar
At the request of Transco (British Gas), Hy-Ram has developed a ‘special’ gas pipe
Squeeze Off unit for use on PE100 / SDR11 pipe at pressures up to 7 bar. Designed
specifically for this application, the ‘controlled release’ technique showed benefits over
conventional squeeze off in terms of reducing the risk of pipe damage, specifically crack
propagation on release of squeeze. Tests were carried out by Transco up to 315mm
diameter, however the unit has been designed to enable 400mm pipe to be installed.
Facilitates 4 simultaneous squeeze points.‘Pipe Stops’ are used to suit the diameter and
wall thickness (SDR) of the pipe.

Hy-Ram are the sole official UK agent for the Wheeler-Rex range of pipe cutting
equipment including the unique range of Hydraulic Pipe Crackers for cast iron
and concrete pipes.
These cutters are not rotated around the pipe, the application is static, the chain is
hydraulically tensioned around the pipe until the point of cracking. Minimal clearance
is required to wrap the cutter chain around the pipe to engage it in the cutter jaws.

Hy-Ram is an official distributor for KEEL. The KEEL range of pipe cutters consists
of two models; Model N450 (75 to 900mm diameter pipe) and Model N600 (100
to 1500mm diameter pipe).
The cutters can be used to cut virtually any pipe material… steel, cast iron, ductile
iron, clay and plastic pipe. The cutters are powered from a portable hydraulic
power unit and so are ideal for on-site use.
The cutter blade is carefully lowered into the pipe wall, the drive is engaged and the
cutter automatically tracks around the pipe cutting through the pipe wall as it travels.

Purge Ejectors
Mini Purge Ejector
The new Mini Purge Ejector is designed as an alternative to the large purge ejectors which have
been in use since the mid 1980s. It works on the same Venturi principle but is lighter and easier to
handle. Designed for use on mains from 3” to 12” in diameter, the Mini Purge Ejector ensures a fast,
clinical and effective purge on gas pipes to be abandoned.
The Mini Purge Ejector is attached to one end of the isolated main and the vent is opened at the
other end to draw in air. Compressed air is introduced into the Mini Purge Ejector which creates
a vacuum. This has the effect of withdrawing the gas from the main; the purged gas and air are
expelled into the atmosphere.

Permanent and Reusable Bar Hole Plugs
Injectable resin and pre formed reusable plugs to fill bar holes and cores. The
cartridge method enables the user to inject a small amount of polymer that will
cure to form a flexible hard wearing and weather resistant plug. The cartridge
can be resealed allowing for multiple applications. The pre formed plugs are
designed to quickly inserted into bar holes providing a flexible seal, but also
allowing for removal if necessary. Additionally they will not stick together when
hot or become brittle and shatter in cold weather. Both products are available in

Main Features
The Serviflex® system is a versatile, safe and efficient gas service pipe replacement
system. It is capable of relining aged metallic pipework that contains short radius
bends (elbows) from the meter position, inside the property, to a convenient external
location. Insertion is achieved by use of a dual wall, gas grade, polyethylene (PE) flexible
liner. Installation of the liner is achieved by the use of specifically designed tooling
that enables the liner to be temporarily stiffened during the insertion process. This is
achieved without compromise to the long term strength of the pipe or flow capacity.

Setting a new standard for operational best practice
Preventing unplanned interruptions to supply requires more than a rapid
response to bursts, operational care and maintenance is a crucial element for a
network to perform well.
Thinking differently and understanding and addressing true root causes has led
to the introduction of the ‘new style’ of Valve Key and operational procedure to
deliver best practice. In turn this has delivered significant customer benefits in
terms of reduced bursts, customer interruptions and highway excavations!
Valve operation can create network stress
A recent study has found that 63% of all interruptions occur following a valve
operation in the previous 7 days!
The operation of a Valve changes the velocity and causes a localised change in
pressure which can cause surges in the network.
The Hy-Ram Controlled-Operation (CO) Valve Key Sets allow Valves to be
operated in a slower, more controlled and safer way. The risk of creating pressure
transients is much reduced, hence pipe stress and the potential for a burst is
decreased.
Health & safety considerations
The operation of valves has had a dramatic impact on lost time across water
companies. Recent studies have found that over 20% of lost time is due to
personal injury and that more than a third of all incidents resulting in more
than 3 days of work were due to valving operations. The use of the Controlled
Operation Valve Key sets mitigates a lot of potential hazards; simple benefits include:
(i) The height at which the valve is being operated can be varied
(ii) The use of a ‘pivot’ allows for greater torque to be applied to the valving
operation with minimal effort
(iii) Potential for 2 man operation in a controlled manner.

Pressure Test Ends
Pressure Test Ends were designed and developed using the same principles as the
expanding towing head. They are inserted into the end of a polyethylene pipe and
expanded, using a spanner, to seal and grip the pipe. The pipe installation can then be
tested by connecting compressed air to the ball valve fitted on the end.

The system adds an innovative step change in application, using proven
pressurised injection technology.
All operations can be carried out from above by removing the cover and
working in the existing chamber.
This has been accomplished by designing an extended drilling and jig system
that allows trained operatives to drill vertically through the valve chamber and

Reinventing leak detection…
The Ferret Leak reliably pinpoints leaks on smooth bore service pipelines. The
patented technology provides a fast and accurate method for finding even the
smallest leaks on plastic, copper and lead pipes.
A flexible umbilical cord attached to the Head contains a trace wire that allows
the depth and position of the buried pipeline to be traced and the exact
position of the Head / leak to be located accurately.

The basic principle...
T:
1. Ferret introduced into leaking pipe with head deflated.
2. Head pressurised with water to approximately 1 Bar
above the Drive pressure (pressure in pipe) so that the
head blocks the pipe.
3. Head pressure gradually deflated until it is approximately
the same as the Drive pressure. The Drive pressure will
push the Head along the pipe. As the Head moves along
the pipe, the Winder Handle on the Ferret rotates and the
flow meter records a positive flow.
4. The Head stops when it passes a leak as some of the
Drive pressure is lost as water escapes through the hole in
the pipe. (The Head pressure is now higher than the drive
pressure). The Winder Handle stops rotating and the flow
meter shows the flow through the leak.

Soil Displacement moles for installing underground services. The ESSIG-IP-Mole
is powered by compressed air, which is supplied by a generator. It is driven
through the soil by a piston inside the body casing. The displacement creates a
bore, in which product pipes or conduits can either be introduced directly with
the mole or installed later.
All machines are fully reversible - no cables or turning needed, simply turn off
the supply of compressed air, pull the hose while reintroducing compressed air.

E4:2006 that are tested and approved by both WASK for use in their Teeset

The Sarco Resistra™ Self Centring E4 Gas Bag Stopper in sizes from 50mm up to
300mm and larger sizes on request are suitable for use in pressurised Gas Mains
in Cast Iron, Ductile Iron, Steel and Polyethylene (PE) pipes operating at 75mbar
pressure in the UK (higher pressure options are also available).
Sarco Stopper has manufactured these safety critical products in the UK for
more than 40 years and has a world wide reputation for high quality stoppers.
The Resistra E4 Gas Bag has an outer cover in High Visibility Yellow Nylon with a
specially formulated PU coating to ensure easy deployment and maximum wear
resistance. The inner bladder being made of pure quality Latex and the Resistra
semi rigid spine curvature ensuring simple deployment, uniform bag inflation
and self centring feature. The key bag neck joint with ½” UNF female connector is
produced using computer assisted techniques ensuring a constant level of high
quality joint.
All bags carry the Kitemark & WASK approval markings and are leak tested prior
to despatch. Packed in standard sized packs of 10 in clear protective polythene,
a comprehensive information and instruction card is also enclosed to assist safe

Aquastop – Key Features & benefits…
o Lightweight and compact in comparison to alternative equipment, resulting in
ease and speed of handling and ability to work in spaces with restricted access
including vertical pipework.
o Small diameter access holes result in reduced cost of consumable cutters as well as
closure fittings and allows quicker installation than conventional methods.
o The ability to localise a repair ensures a minimum disruption to customers. The
distance between isolation valves may be long and in this case, the number of
customers deprived of water can be considerable.
o Automatic, pressure balanced headwork means that the effort required
to launch and inflate the Sarco Aqua Hydro® bags remains low even with
increasing or fluctuating pressures, allowing the operator to concentrate on
the job in hand.
o Use of bypass allows minimum or no interruption to supply across stop off on
the majority of mains, including single fed mains.
o Sarco Aqua Hydro® bags are inflated utilising the water pressure from the
main. No additional power source is required for operation of the unit. The
danger of over or under inflating the bags is eliminated.

The Hydrant Wizard has been designed to enable defective fire hydrants to be
exchanged – ‘underpressure’.
Previous practices for exchanging a hydrant involved shutting down the main
either by closing valves or using traditional line-stopping techniques. However,
valves could often be some distance away so that supplies to customers would
be interrupted. In addition, both these methods of shutting down and restoring
supply could disturb sediment in the main leading to complaints regarding
water quality.

The Soil Pick© is a selective excavator. Selective in the sense that it fractures,
pulverizes and displaces porous and semi-porous soils, yet leaves nonporous
objects unaffected. The Soil Pick excavates soil without risk of damaging buried
utilities.
The Soil Pick employs converging/diverging nozzle technology to accelerate
compressed air to supersonic speed (to 1500 mph). The high velocity air stream
travels approximately 4 inches from the distal end of the Soil Pick - “the cutting
edge” - before decompressing to atmospheric pressure with sufficient violence
to pulverize and displace soil.
Non-conductive, non-sparking tools are of obvious benefit to those working

Hi-Flow Drilling Saddles
The System
The Hy-Ram ’Hi-Flow’ System consists of a Drilling
Saddle, Flanged Riser Tube and the LR67 Drilling
Machine. The system allows underpressure
installation of fire hydrants onto existing mains,
avoiding shutdown and subsequent recharging.
It is also an ideal method of installing Flushing
Points adjacent to ’normally kept shut’
boundary valves.
The system enables holes up to 67mm diameter to be cut into
pressurised water mains, giving excellent flow rate characteristics. The
versatility of the system will allow for other applications in the water
network.

With the advent of ‘through bore’ fire hydrants, Hy-Ram introduce the
LR67 Drilling Machine NEW Hi-Flow Drilling Saddle for pipe sizes 3”NB to 12”NB complete
with PN16 - 80mm flanged outlet and 80mm clear bore.
Following the initial concept of simplicity and ‘one fitting does all’
the Hi-Flow remains a single fitting. There is no need for doubling up
or using two fittings… adding in an extra flanged joint and greater
potential for leaks..

Top & Bottom Sampling of the Pipe Wall
By accessing the pipe just from the top, but taking samples from both
top and bottom whilst the pipe is underpressure.
The Benefits
This unique system enables a coupon to be taken from both the top and
bottom of the pipe via two passes of the drilling spindle. Analysis of the
coupons enables decisions to be made regarding whether the pipe has
been previously lined and gives an indication of the condition, hence rehabilitation programs can be planned.
Normally the pipe would have to be shutdown and drained and a section
cut out. The cost savings are substantial!

Hy-Ram Double Spade Valve (DSV)
The Hy-Ram DSV totally revolutionises the method for making Branch
Connections to existing Water Mains. For the first time ever - new works can be
connected, pressure tested and 100% chlorinated by alleviating the need to
‘break-down’ in order to remove the spade or temporary fittings.
Traditionally the new main is sterilised and then once again exposed to the
environment to remove the spade and temporary fittings to allow ‘piping up’ the
supply line to the distribution line.
Designed as a ‘one-use only’ installation, the utilisation of the DSV mitigates any
risk of contamination and provides a safe, efficient and easy method of making
a branch connection. Whereas traditional methods require two lengthy separate
visits to site to carry out pipe fitting operations - the DSV only requires the initial
setting up and then the secondary visit just involves removing the blades and
blanking off…the cost savings are significant!

The electrofusion fitting programme is unique for two reasons. Firstly, due to
the complete range of elbows, tees, reducers and end caps extending from
d20 to d250 mm. Secondly, because of the unlimited possibilities offered when
combining such fittings in the sizes d20 to d63 mm with modular transition
adapters.

Hy-Ram Stainless Steel T & TS Clamp
T Clamp Range & Dimensions:
The T Clamp is made up of two parts and has a range of 20 mm.
For larger diameters (from DIN 500), the T Clamp is made up of three parts and
has a range of 30 mm. (Larger ranges are available on request)
The length of the clamp depends on the size of the flange and the pipe
diameter, but is a minimum of 500 mm.
TS Clamp Range & Dimensions:
The TS Clamp made up of two parts and is made to measure (i.e. no range). The
TS Clamp is extra heavy duty having a casing made from 6 mm thick stainless
steel with the fixing supports and bolts also made of extra heavy materials.

The Hy-Ram Stainless Steel Branch Clamp can be supplied with various tapped
outlets.
The standard internal screw threads are ½” - 3” but alternative threads are
available on request. The Branch Clamp can also be supplied with external screw
thread or a combination of internal and external screw threads.
Other dimensions are available on request.

HY-RAM Repair Clamps, Underpressure Tees & Fittings
Branded Hy-Ram, the repair clamps and fittings are flexible; consisting of one or
more stainless steel clamp sections covered with a rubber gasket. They are used
for a quick, easy and permanent repair or connection to broken, corroded or
damaged water and gas pipes. They can be installed on Ductile Iron, Grey Cast
Iron, Steel, Asbestos Cement and Plastic pipes with working pressures up to 30
bar.

o Manufactured in Europe to exacting standards
o Short delivery times, even on special orders (any size range catered for) & rush
orders for specials often available within 48 hrs
o Manufactured in quality Stainless Steel grade 304 (grade 316 also available)
o No special tools or skills required for installation. Less crew, equipment and
excavation is required. Repair can be made by one man!
o Stocked as standard with WRAS approved EPDM rubber seals but also available
on request with Nitrile NDR rubber waffle seals for gas applications

Applications of the Q and Snap clamps
The Hy-Ram Q and Snap clamps are suited for sealing small leaks and corrosion
holes on smaller diameters.
Applications of the QS clamps
As the Q clamp with the additional advantage that it forms a complete 360˚ seal
around the pipe.
