One of the Guernsey party, was the GCCC's new President, Kath Marshal and her husband Keith. It was good to have the opportunity to hear what is going on in our sister Island and exchange ideas for future events and we wish Kath every success in her new rôle. After we had all sat down, Glenda opened the proceedings by welcoming everybody and then passed the baton to Kath Marshal who introduced herself and told us something about her background. There then followed, what I thought was, an excellent three course lunch, though some people, felt that there was not a lot of melon in the melon and Palma ham starter, and others that some of the portions were a bit small. At the end of the meal Glenda thanked everyone for coming and thanked all those who had worked in the background to make the event the success it obviously was. Another great Club event. Many Congratulations to Mary and Bill Hill on their Golden Wedding Anniversary on 2nd April 2016 1966 ~ 2016 JCCC Newsletter for May 2016 Page 2 © Copyright 2016 JCCC The Club AGM 13th April 2016 The AGM was held at Trinity Parish Hall on 13 th April and was well attended by 57 members. All the usual items were discussed including the election of Committee members and we welcome the addition of Monique Lawrence to the Committee. However it was afterwards discovered that Monique should have been elected as a member rather than Vice President although she has agreed to be VP from next year. This will be put right at a Special General Meeting to be held before the BBQ on May 22nd (see agenda on page 10). Following the business of the meeting was an excellent and entertaining presentation by Dave & Barbara Grover of their Australian adventure in 2015. After the presentation, cheese & wine was enjoyed by members together with a good old natter. Many Congratulations to Anita and John English on their Golden Wedding Anniversary on 9th April 2016 1966 ~ 2016 JCCC Newsletter for May 2016 Page 3 © Copyright 2016 JCCC 2016 Shakedown Rally Sunday 17th April. It's sunshine and the odd shower in the morning followed by sunny periods and the first of the rally attendees arrived at Domaine du Logis to a warm welcome by Delphine and Miguel in typical French fashion. Domaine du Logis is undergoing changes with new pitches in the big field where most of those attending last year's rally stayed, new roads are being created and a new area for static caravans (see article on page 6) Monday dawned cold (-2oC) and bright, eventually warming to about 12 degrees by the afternoon. By the middle of the day more members started to arrive and by the end of the afternoon we had nearly half the number of rigs expected. Tuesday 19th was a similar day to Monday but not as cold in the morning with two more members arriving. Wednesday saw more members arrive so that by the end of the day only a few members were left to come. Thursday 21st April saw a change in the weather with clouds and light rain and the arrival of the remaining attendees. Ten members decided to take advantage (if that is the right word?) of the bad weather and go to Ikea near Rennes. Depending on your point of view this is either shopping heaven or total torture but the restaurant is not at all bad and I can recommend the Swedish meatballs. On the way back from Ikea we spotted three hardy souls just setting out from the camp site on their bikes in the rain. On Thursday evening the weather brightened and saw the first club drinks gathering and an opportunity to get together for a natter with 52 members attending. Later the rain returned. Friday started, as Thursday finished, with more light rain but, as the day wore on, it got brighter and this enabled us to have the inevitable BBQ in the evening which 50 people attended. (Pictures below) JCCC Newsletter for May 2016 Page 4 © Copyright 2016 JCCC Saturday can best be described as cold. Some members went off to Dol de Bretagne for the market there and to have a wander round the old town. It doesn't change but it's always worth a look with its ancient architecture and the cathedral which has some of the oldest choir stalls in Europe. On Saturday evening, a meal at the camp restaurant was organised and, despite the roaring log fire, it was cold in there. The food was up to the usual high standard but the chef forgot to heat the plates for the main course and thus the meat was little more than tepid which together with the coldness of the restaurant, for some, spoiled an otherwise good meal. The meal was followed by another Australian raffle which as usual was a total hoot with prizes being stolen and then stolen back. As a bonus there was a mystery prize which also changed hands many times, finally being won by Ann Le Gallais. It turned out to be a hat in the form of a penguin. Hmmm lovely! Many thanks to Collette for organising the raffle. Great laugh As usual, Miguel (pictured left) our genial host and wife Delphine, were there to make sure it all went well and even had time to take part in the raffle as did the chef. After the raffle, many of us ended up in the bar where we were finally able to warm up a bit and discuss the events of the day. Sunday turned out cold but mainly bright and the first two members left for pastures new but many have said that they intend to stay on for a few more days. Monday saw more leave leaving just the hard core. Despite the weather, it was generally agreed by all that the rally was another successful event. Many Congratulations to Barbara and Michel Le Bihan on their Golden Wedding Anniversary on 11 th April 2016 1966 ~ 2016 JCCC Newsletter for May 2016 Page 5 © Copyright 2016 JCCC Advertising feature Developments at Beausejour and Domain du Logis and Mobile Homes Show reminder (by Jayne Thomas from Bonne Vie Holidays) ……….A Campsite to watch. There have been some interesting developments at Camping Beausejour – St Samson-sur-Rance (near Dinan) and well worth a mention. A few years ago the mayor agreed to 6 pitches to accommodate the largest of Mobile homes on a single axle i.e. up 42ft long by 14ft wide. Four of these pitches have been taken but the remaining two pitches have now been combined to make a pitch for a massive twin unit (Lodge) which will arrive this season. (Don’t forget the normal size of home in France is 35 x12!). Jayne, from Bonne Vie Holidays, approached the current Mayor, M. Lorre, who agreed to this lodge: It is a Pemberton Glendale 44ft long by 22ft wide and the base has already been made for it. The Pemberton team will follow the lodge and install it on site and will certainly be an unique sight in this area of France. The Mayor has also given his consent to another lodge as well as four more large residential pitches for next season. He would like to develop more and more residential pitches in the future and so I can see a lovely residential site developing. Beausejour Campsite is now open from 1st March – 30th November for home owners – making a good long season for those wishing to make the most of being in France! ……………Meanwhile at Domaine du Logis – The major project has commenced! Please come and see us Saturday 28 th May for our Open Day at Domaine du Logis…. Check in and enjoy the weekend entertainment and see the mobile homes on Display! This time, it's motor bike vans. Our first two offerings are (surprise surprise) from the USA where they obviously make their bikes big. Next a sort of 5th wheeler. Looks a bit like a hearse to me with those oil lamps and not sure if it can be slept in and therefore qualify as caravan, but it's cute isn't it? Then, what must be the smallest twin axle ever. Finally a couple of motorbike sidecar caravans. Well they are different aren't they? Look out for another crop of the weird and the wonderful in the next issue and don't forget, to send me your weird pictures and I will try to include them.
