DOOR COMMUNITY AUDITORIUM • 2015
Welcome to the Door Community Auditorium!
Thank you for joining us for a 2015 Main Stage Season performance! On behalf of
DCA’s Programming Committee, Board, & Staff, we invite you to sit back, relax,
silence your cellphones and mental “to do” lists, and join us on a journey. Perhaps
you might imagine Mavis Staples softly singing the 1970s iconic hit, I’ll Take You
There as we prepare to leave.
“Where are we going?”, you ask. Well, depending on the day or night you’re here,
we might head to the Mississippi Delta with Mavis, or time travel to 1958 and join
a foursome of future rock legends in an impromptu jam session. We might mosey
on down to Georgia where a shady fiddler is trying to steal Charlie Daniels’ soul or
maybe we’ll sit a spell at some Hometown Tables with local songstress, Katie Dahl.
Whether you are attending a Lyle Lovett performance, a high school play, or one
of our free winter lectures, the world is right here at your feet through the sharing of
a performing arts or humanities experience.
Door Community Auditorium – both its stage and gallery – has been ‘taking us
places’ since opening its doors in 1991. Now, nearly 25 years later, DCA continues
to offer programs, exhibits, and performances that communicate ideas, provide
doorways to the wider world, and encourage connections to this place and to
one another.
In anticipation of next season’s 25th Anniversary Celebration, we are pleased
to offer a few ‘early presents’ to our audience members. Through the generous
support of donors and community partners, we begin this season with improved
sound equipment, a new lighting board, a hearing loop system for patrons with
hearing loss, and, a newly transformed gallery solely dedicated to the exhibition
of children’s art – the first of its kind in all of Door County. These improvements
benefit all DCA visitors, from our very youngest attendees to our most-seasoned
audience members.
And while it may be a bit unconventional, we are asking you – our travel
companions – to leave us a souvenir from your visit. Please write us a postcard,
record an anniversary message, or send a photo through Facebook, Instagram
or email, and tell us your favorite DCA memory. Or, let us know where you want
us to go in the future. Special anniversary postcards and details are available in
the lobby. It has been, and continues to be, a great honor to share this journey
with you.
Thank You & Happy Travels!

The LINK GALLERY
OF CHILDREN’S ART
The Link Gallery has recently undergone an amazing transformation. After a
month-long project which included the painting of a beautiful and inspiring
cloud mural created by Muralist, Ram Rojas and the installation of energyefficient lighting, the space is now The Link Gallery of Children’s Art. The
gallery is Door County’s first exhibit space dedicated to the showing of
artwork that portrays the world through the eyes of children.
The inaugural exhibit, The Colors of our Lives: Door County, My Home, depicts
Door County through the eyes of the children who live here, representing the
things the students love about their homes. The exhibit will be on display from
June through September.
Beginning with the 2015 academic year, The Link Gallery of Children’s Art
will feature six professionally presented exhibits annually. Children at various
age levels from all Door County schools, as well as those who are homeschooled, will be invited to participate. During the school year, exhibits will
focus on providing a window to the world and educational experiences
for children who live here. Summer exhibits will have themes that illuminate
aspects of Door County for residents and visitors alike. The space will also
present traveling exhibits featuring art created by children from other parts
of the country and the world. A wide variety of themes and artistic mediums
will be explored, ranging from the natural
environment, cultural traditions, historical
events, to values such as trust, kindness,
and generosity.
The Link Gallery of Children’s Art is
a collaboration of Door Community
Auditorium, Friends of Gibraltar and
Gibraltar Area Schools.

DOOR COMMUNITY AUDITORIUM • 2015
Hearing is Believing!
Thanks to generous community support, Door Community
Auditorium is the first public performing arts venue in Door
County to install a hearing loop system. This emerging
technology significantly improves our venue’s comfort
and accessibility for our patrons with hearing loss.
What are Hearing Loops?
Hearing loops provide an in-ear loudspeaker that cuts
out a significant amount of background noise for audience members with hearing
aids or cochlear implants.
A typical hearing loop system consists of a microphone, an amplifier, and a thin
copper wire, usually installed around the outer edges of a room. The wire is able
to pick up the sound from a microphone which creates a magnetic field that
transmits the sound directly to the hearing aid.
How to Use DCA’s Hearing Loops
In order for the hearing loops to work properly, hearing aids must be equipped with
a telecoil, or T-coil. The T-coil in the hearing aid must also be activated and turned
on, which can be done with a simple flip of a switch. About two-thirds of hearing
aids and all cochlear implants on the market in the U.S. are already equipped with a
T-coil. This T-coil program must be activated by an audiologist. Talk to your audiologist
to find out if your instruments can have both a T (no background noise pick up) and
an MT program (blended micro-phone & T-coil program) for improved hearing at
concerts and lectures.
If you do not have a T-Coil equipped hearing aid or cochlear implant but wish to
benefit from our hearing loop system, please ask for a special headset at the box
office window.
Donations are still needed to complete the funding for DCA’s Sound & Lighting
Upgrades. If you’d like to help, please call Cari at 920.868.2728 ext. 107
Special Thanks to our Sounds Great! Campaign Major Donors: Dave & Vonnie
Callsen, The Cordon Family Foundation, Dick & Anne Egan, Gibraltar Schools,
Donald & Carol Kress, Main Street Market, Fred Marcon, The Minahan Family Fund of
the Community Foundation for the Fox River Valley, North Point Association, Steve &
