Letter from the Executive Director
I want to welcome all of you to this very special celebration
of APL.
Tonight is significant to me for so many reasons. First and
foremost, we are paying tribute to our students, their families
and the incredibly talented and passionate staff that make
APL all that it is and promises to be in the future. We are
also recognizing our Charter Donors, a special group of
people that have been with APL since the beginning years.
Your unwavering support has been our rock – we simply
could not have grown, much less
flourished, without your generous and
dedicated support.
I also want to recognize the tireless
work of our Board of Directors, that
includes all of the Founders of our
school, who dedicate countless hours
and their broad range of skills to
making our dreams a reality. We also
have an amazing Advisory Board,
consisting of so many leading figures Katrina Davis Photography
in our local community, that helps
guide and advise us at every point in our progression.
Tonight we have the pleasure of honoring Broadway
Bound’s Founder and Artistic Executive Director Jimmy
Nixon. Not only has Jimmy become an invaluable friend
and supporter of APL, he is the perfect representation of
what a true community partnership can be. Jimmy has
brought his extraordinary talents to bear with our students
and we are we seeing incredible breakthroughs with many
of our kids, not to mention the simple pure joy all around.
I feel especially blessed to be part of APL’s journey. To be

part of something that is being built from the ground up is a
once in a lifetime experience. It takes passion, expertise,
dedication and buckets of sweat to make it happen. Every
day I am fortunate to come to work with people that
demonstrate just that – from my
partner Alison Moors, to the
incredible staff, to the families that
pour their heart into the school, to my
favorite part – our students. I feel
immensely privileged to spend time
with each and every one of them and
I can assure you that the whole staff
celebrates all of their efforts and
successes on a daily basis.

We all know this is hard work – but it’s essential work. We
are unwavering about our core mission – to prove that all
students, including typically developing and those across the
autism spectrum, can successfully learn side by side within
an academically challenging and socially vibrant
environment. I see this success every day, in ways both big
and small, and it is an energizing and very affirming thing to
experience. We want to continue growing and see our
model bring success to many more deserving students – but
we can’t do this without your help.

Letter from the APL Board President
On behalf of the Board of Directors, welcome to APL's 5th
Annual Fundraising Auction and Dinner -- "Soaring to New
Heights." We are honored to have your attendance and
support as APL continues its important mission of proving
that children on the autism spectrum can successfully learn
alongside their typical peers in a challenging and socially
vibrant classroom.
As the theme of tonight suggests, over the past year APL
has been "Soaring to New Heights." In both quantifiable and
qualitative measures the school has simply flourished under
the exceptional leadership of Executive Director Jennifer
Annable and Founder Alison Moors. Today, in just five short
years APL has over 60 students in 4 classrooms being
taught by an incredibly talented and dedicated staff of
educators. Since the 2009-201 0 school year, APL has
quadrupled in size. And APL recently announced the
opening of a 9th grade, extending the school's curriculum
and learning opportunities to additional students. In sum,
APL has created an exceptionally strong and positive
learning environment. Each day, energy and enthusiasm
fills the halls and it is simply inspiring to watch the
interactions throughout the school.
Tonight APL will honor and recognize a true local hero: Mr.
Jimmy Nixon. Jimmy is the Founder and Executive Director
of Broadway Bound. Over the past two years Jimmy and
Broadway Bound have engaged in a community partnership
with APL and provided the students with a unique
opportunity to learn and thrive in the performing arts. By his
goodwill in providing his time and talent APL will showcase
two theatrical productions this year - 'Beauty & the Beast'
and 'You're a Good Man Charlie Brown' - involving ALL of
the students.

APL's Charter Donors will also be recognized tonight for
their steadfast dedication to the school. The Charter Donors
have supported APL since its inception and have been a
vital and dynamic part of its success and outreach. The
school is deeply indebted to the Charter Donors for their
past and continued service. As APL continues, their
collective leadership and support will play an important role
in the school's continued success.
Tonight was made possible by the tireless efforts of many
APL families and staff including our Development Director
Andrea Sanders and Auction Committee Coordinator and
fellow Board Member Samia Mohazzabfar. Thank you for
your tremendous efforts in making this event extraordinary.
I sincerely hope that all of you enjoy the evening. As APL
continues to implement its core mission and attempts to
expand educational opportunities to additional children we
need your continued support. Thank you for your
attendance, enthusiasm and generosity in supporting this
most important endeavor.

Honoring Jimmy Nixon & Broadway Bound
Tonight APL is honoring an outstanding community partner –
Broadway Bound’s Founder and Artistic Executive Director
Jimmy Nixon.
Jimmy has brought his range of expertise and extraordinary
talents to bear with all of our APL students. He has
demonstrated time and time again that
any child, regardless of ability level,
can experience the magic of musical
theater.
Through APL’s partnership with
Broadway Bound, the students not only
get weekly music and drama classes -they now produce annual productions
that involve every student across our KGrease
8 population. Last year, the APL
theater troupe put on a terrific production of the “Lion King”
and “Grease” that wowed the crowd. This year, we look
forward to renditions of “Beauty & the Beast” and “You’re a
Good Man Charlie Brown” that are destined to be sure fire
hits.
One of APL’s core tenets is that we believe every student

deserves access to a broad set of enrichment opportunities,
but this would not be possible without the tireless and
dedicated support of partners like Jimmy Nixon. What
began as an experiment to introduce our students to the
performing arts has grown into an incredibly special
opportunity to see every single performer blossom in the
limelight.

list’ items from APL faculty and staff. You may find items
ranging in cost from $25 to $500 amongst the branches of
the tree. Guests will have the opportunity to help our
technology program grow and contribute funds that will
directly benefit the amazing students at APL.
Super Silent: Looking for that special item? A select number
of Silent Items are displayed in the Inlet Room. These items
will be open for bidding longer than Silent A and Silent B, but
will close before the Live. Don’t miss your opportunity to
visit the Inlet Room and bid on these high-end items!
Up, Up and Away Centerpieces : You will be on Cloud Nine
throughout the night as you Soar to New Heights with your
spectacular centerpiece! Displayed at each table, these
custom-made art pieces consist of a Longaberger basket
filled with handfuls of Seattle Chocolates. Atop the basket,
sits a hand-painted air balloon, made from hollowed-out
gourds. Don’t miss your opportunity to bring one home with
you – quantities are limited!

RULES OF THE AUCTION
Registration: At check-in, you will receive a packet with your bid
number. Keep your number with you! By bidding in the Live or Silent
Auction each bidder agrees to these Auction rules.
Silent Auction: All items in the Silent Auction have a corresponding bid
form. To bid on an item, write your bid number on the bid sheet next to
the preprinted amount of your choice. All Silent Auction items will have a
“Guaranteed Purchase” bid. By signing your bid number in this box, the
bidding on this item closes and the item is now yours. Once you write
you bid number on the bid sheet, do not cross your number out. As each
Silent auction area closes, an Auction representative will circle the
winning number on the bid sheet.
Live Auction : Once the Live Auction begins, it will continue without
intermission until all items have been auctioned. To enter a bid, the
bidder signals either the auctioneer or one of the spotters. Use only the
bid number assigned to you. The auctioneer will determine who the
Successful bidder is. Please hold your bid card so that the number can
be easily seen. The auctioneer acknowledges winners of Live Auction
bids and the purchaser will sign a bid sheet, which will be brought to the
table. This signature will constitute a legal contract to buy. In the event
of any disputes between bidders, the auctioneer shall have sole and final
discretion to determine the successful bidder or to re-offer the item in
dispute. The value set forth for items being auctioned are donors’
estimates and are not warranted by the Auction for general value. All
sales are final. There will be no exchanges or refunds except where
noted.
Payment: A signature constitutes a legal contract to buy. All sales are
final and there will be no exchanges or refunds unless otherwise
specified. All items must be paid for by evening’s end unless you are
using the Express Checkout system. We accept checks, MasterCard,
and Visa. For items that are jointly purchased by two or more parties,
the signer is the designated payee. Please make your own
arrangements for reimbursement by your co-purchasers.
Express Checkout: Participants who wish to speed up their checkout at
the end of the evening may request Express Checkout when you receive
your package at the beginning of the evening. Participants will be asked

to leave a signed blank check or credit card slip.
Time Limit: Unless otherwise stated, use of condominiums, houses,
dinners, cabins, tickets, services, etc., is to take place within one year
following the auction, at a time mutually agreeable to both the winner
and the donor.
Warranties : The APL Auction committee has attempted to catalog to
describe the items and property correctly, but all items and property are
sold “as is.” APL neither warrants nor represents, nor shall in no event be
responsible for the correctness of description, genuineness, authorship,
provenance or condition of property. APL reserves the right to withdraw
any item for sale prior to the call for bids and/or prior to payment
completion and reserves the right to adjust the donor’s estimate of retail
value.
Removal : At the end of the Auction, proceed to Check Out to pick up
your merchandise.
Liability: Each person issued a bid number assumes all risks and
hazards related to the auction. Each bidder agrees to hold APL, its
elected and appointed member and employees, the auctioneer, the
organization, sponsors, and/or volunteers connected with the Auction
harmless from any liability arising therein.
