The basic principle is an exterior wooden bridge that gives access to the first floor residents while blurring the boundaries between public and private. This sculptural element can be adaptable to the modules and site position. The reinforced concrete shell construction is pre-fabricated, saving construction time and costs. As there is little shading in the east and west direction, Accova wooden sliding shutters are used, providing optimal and variable sun protection. Berlin Urban Living- De Zwarte Hond Architects Berlin Urban Living aims to find a solution to sustainable and economic living in the widening gap between the inner and outer residential areas and strengthen the social cohesion in the city of Berlin. The basic module consists of three units side by side and two units above the other. A six pack grid forms a module with 3 different sized apartments. There can be a variety in apartment sizes using the same system and grid, resulting in great flexibility within the building. Three units are combined together into a module. By shifting the modules, these living units adapt to the conditions of the site.
