provided by the Grasshopper Valley Volunteer Fire
Department with low-angle extrication personnel from the

Run Groups
Your entry will entitle you to 2 runs per day. You will be
assigned a run group for Saturday and Sunday, and will only
run with that group unless prior arrangements are made. The
run group order will be reversed on Sunday, (ie.-Saturday run
group order 1-2-3-4 will run in reverse order, 4-3-2-1 on
Sunday.)
Workers
It takes a lot of dedicated people to support the drivers on the
hill. Grasshopper Valley Volunteer Fire Department (GVVFD)
tries hard to provide the necessary volunteers; however,
sometimes we need more. Therefore, drivers will be expected
to help (much like auto crossing) and may be assigned to a
workstation during a run group. If you, a crew member. family
or friend would be willing to donate some of your day to working
a corner, helping with tech inspections, or in any other capacity,
we would greatly appreciate your assistance. Please indicate
your interest on your registration form.
Camping and Parking
Camping is allowed in designated USFS campgrounds along
the Pioneer Mountains Scenic Byway. These campgrounds
provide a paved parking area, picnic tables, fire pits, pit toilets
and water. There is a $8.00 daily fee for their use. Competitor
parking will be provided in the staging area located at the
Grasshopper Inn and at the snowmobile parking area below

Food
We are planning a Saturday night dinner. The cost of the
dinner is included in the 2-day registration fees. An additional
charge of $15.00 is required for those only registering for
Saturday competition. A no-host bar will be available.
Lunches are also available for those who pre-register for $6.00
per day. For those non-driver volunteers who work, a lunch
will be provided on that day.
There will be no water or food available on the hill. So, be sure
to bring your own water and any other food you may want (like
breakfast or snacks) with you. There are mercantiles and
cafes located nearby to all of the out lying accommodations
listed in this brochure and Dillon offers several fast food and
grocery outlets. Ma Barnes Country Market is located across
the road from the Grasshopper Inn.

well as lap belts. Minimum requirement is factory installed

must be Snell 2000 series or newer.
6.

recommended in all cars. The roll bar must be higher that the driver’s
head, be adequately braced, and be constructed to GCR
specifications. We may request you to sit in your car at tech with your
helmet on so we can confirm proper clearance. (No scrunching
down!)
7.

release forms. Parents MUST sign for each minor child.
8.
Fire extinguishers (minimum 5BC rating) or fire systems are

their run card while in the grid line.

Directions & Maps
The Pioneer Mountains Scenic Byway (USFS 73)
bisects the Beaverhead National Forest in southwest
Montana. It is a paved, two lane county road that is open from
15 May to 1 December. It is an extremely picturesque route
that connects MT Highway 43 in the town of Wise River to
Beaverhead County route 278 approximately 10 miles south
of the town of Polaris. The main arteries to this part of the state
are I-90 to the north and I-15 to the east.
Area Attractions
In addition to the beautiful Pioneer Mountains, there are
numerous other sites well worth your time and attention. Lewis
and Clark passed through this country with their “Voyage
ofDiscovery”. Bannack State Park, the original territorial
capital is located mid-way between Dillon and Polaris about 4
miles south of Route 278. The Big Hole Battlefield is located
approximately 12 miles west of the town of Wisdom on MT 43.
It memorializes a battle between the Nez Perce Indians, under
Chief Joseph, and the U.S. Army regulars and civilians. The
Beaverhead County Museum, located in Dillon, has grown in
recent years to more fully document the pioneer experience in
this part of the country. Butte, Montana, the home of the
“Richest Hill on Earth”, has numerous expositions of mining’s
glory days of yesteryear. Also, the “Lady of the Rockies” is
located on top of the mountains east of the city. Her inception
and construction is a very moving and heart warming story.
Anaconda, Montana is home of the tallest brick smokestack
west of the Mississippi. Those of you traveling east on I-90 will
be able to view this site from the interstate. And, for the anglers
among you, the Big Hole River and Beaverhead Rivers are
recognized internationally as blue-ribbon trout streams.
