TENANT KITCHEN SIGNS COMBINING PRIVATE SECTOR + PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT PUBLIC RECYCLING BINS TENANTS RECOGNIZED FOR SUSTAINABILITY PRACTICES … Klaus Gastager (is) owner of Hofbrauhaus, a German
microbrewery and restaurant with live entertainment in Rosemont.
Here's how Gastager, who immigrated from Munich 10 years ago,
calculates his green expenses: "It's zero investment."
His first venue in Las Vegas went from paying $18,000 a year for
trash disposal to $7,000 a year by recycling. He implemented the
same recycling practices when he opened his Rosemont location
about nine months ago and is seeing similar savings. The grain left
over from his brewery is used as compost, donated to local farms as
pig feed.
Gastager compared waste policies in Munich to Chicago's:
Germans pay triple the amount Americans pay for waste
management. If they don't separate their trash and recyclables, the
waste haulers just ignore the bins, leaving you to deal with the
overflow and stink. Americans have it cheap and easy, "so people
don't really care," he said. He was surprised to discover that a lot
of Americans don't know how to recycle, since it's a daily routine
for people in Germany — otherwise it actually costs them, he said.”
This Municipal Sustainability Program saw a 51% Diversion Rate in 2013 MB Financial Park in Rosemont diverted over 440 tons of recyclables, food scraps and spent grain, a.k.a. caOle feed! MB#FINANCIAL#PARKROSEMONT
