Additional Information / Service History
Ferrari’s Berlinetta Boxer (more officially known as the 365/GT4 “BB”) is a landmark car in the history of the
company. Its exotic configuration of a flat-12 engine mounted longitudinally behind the driver and aggressive twoseater styling set the tone for every flagship Ferrari supercar up to the current LaFerrari.
The Ferrari Berlinetta Boxer was revealed at the 1971 Turin motor show as a design concept, but it wasn’t until the
Paris show of 1973 that Ferrari finally unveiled the production version. Just 387 examples were built over the next
three years.
Period road tests lauded the Berlinetta Boxer’s awesome performance and true supercar character. While the
Ferrari 512 BB that followed it was heralded as objectively the better car, the 365/GTB “BB” is arguably the
connoisseur’s choice, as the rarest and purest flat-12 Ferrari.
This Ferrari Berlinetta Boxer, chassis number 18193, is one of just 58 right-hand-drive cars imported to the UK. The
original specification of this Boxer was the extremely rare colour of Verde Scuro with Beige leather.
The Ferrari was ordered in 1973 by Mr George Burton CBE, who was Chief Executive of the substantial Fisons
group of agricultural businesses. Mr Burton owned a string of other Ferraris, including a Daytona, 365 GTC4 and
Dino, and he waited nearly two years to take delivery of his Berlinetta Boxer, which was first registered in
December 1974.
The Boxer was sold on to its second keeper in April 1976, and in March 1979 it was purchased by Mr Rick Wright keyboard player and founder member of rock band Pink Floyd.
Two subsequent keepers looked after the Ferrari, before it was subjected to an extensive restoration in the
summer of 1987, at which point the colour was changed from green to red. After its comprehensive rebuild, the car
was sold on to a seventh keeper in Lancashire.
Having kept the car immaculately stored for just over three years, the seventh keeper sold the Boxer to another
Lancashire resident in March 1991. This eighth keeper remained the custodian of the Ferrari for the next nine
years, before selling it on to a collector in Kent in January 2010.
From this point, the Boxer’s servicing and maintenance was looked after by Foskers, which carried out a substantial
mechanical and cosmetic overhaul in November 2010, when the odometer showed just 14651 miles from new.
Foskers has cared for the car ever since, on behalf of its second Kent owner, as well as the current keeper who
lives in Surrey.
The outstanding history file which accompanies this Ferrari Berlinetta Boxer authenticates the car’s remarkably low
mileage, and provides extensive documentation of its maintenance and ownership history.
With only 58 examples of the 365 Berlinetta Boxer delivered to the UK in right-hand drive, opportunities to
purchase one are rare to say the least. Factor in this car’s genuine low mileage, immaculate condition and rock-star
provenance, and it’s easy to see why we are so excited to offer this wonderful example of Ferrari’s first supercar.
