FAV™ FAMILY
General Facts
• The FAV ballistic panels graduate up/down 4-inches in circumference for each larger/smaller size
• The FAV is designed to have a minimum 2-inch to 4-inch gap between the front and back panel on the wearer’s sides
due to the 6” x 10” ballistic side panels that come standard with the vest
• It is recommended that there be a minimum 2-inch overlap of the 6” x 10” ballistic panel over the back panel and a
minimum 3-inch overlap of the front panel
• Optional Spacer-Mesh inserts will add an additional 2-inches of girth on EACH side which is equivalent to one full vest
size
• The sizing chart on page 3 is a general estimate of girth and chest ranges. If an individual has a measurement outside
of the size range in the chart, lean towards a larger size in most instances
• The true measurement chart on page 4 is the true measurement of the ballistic panels and is a good reference for
addressing proper lengths
• Only the front length measurement is needed for sizing PROTECH vests, it is not necessary to measure the back length.
• When sizing the FAV QR – please use this section as your guideline
STEP 1A - Loosen Shoulder Straps and Cummerbunds
STEP 1B - Attach and Insert any Optional Accessories and/or Plates to the Vest:
• Remove the shoulder D-rings and do not attach the shoulder portions of the Spacer-Mesh inserts (if applicable). This is
important, as full shoulder adjustment will be compromised when these are attached
STEP 2 - Shoulder Adjustment and Sizing Requirements:
Shoulder adjustment is crucial to having proper vest height - Proper vest height not only ensures that the soft ballistic
panels cover the torso area of the body but also ensures that rifle plates sit at the proper height within the front and back
plate pockets.
• Have the officer don the vest
• Adjust the shoulder straps until the neck scoop on the front of the vest lines up with the officer’s clavicle notch and the
neck scoop of the back of the vest lines up with the imaginary horizontal plane of the top of the shoulders
• Reattach shoulder portions of the Spacer-Mesh inserts (if applicable)
STEP 3 – Internal Cummerbund Adjustment and Fit Requirements:
• With the internal cummerbund detached from the vest, attach the hook and loop portions of the two separate pieces
together and have the officer hold the attached pieces on the stomach over the navel
• Eye up the officer’s lower torso and estimate where the internal cummerbund will attach to the back of the vest – then
attach the cummerbund, via modular webbing, to the outer wings of the back of the vest
• Adjust internal cummerbund until officer feels most comfortable
STEP 4 – Outer Cummerbund Side Adjustment and Fit Requirements:
• The FAV MKII Enhanced features an outer cummerbund with 6” x 10” side ballistic panels and is designed to have a
gap between the front and back panels that will be protected by the overlapping 6” x 10” side ballistic panels. Ideally,
this gap should be between 2-inches and 4-inches wide and is intended to accommodate growth, and/or expansion
from winter clothes and provide adjustability to allow the same size vest to be used for a range of girth circumferences.
• If there is more than a 4-inch gap you might consider trying a larger size. Likewise, if there is less than a 2-inch gap it
might be a good idea to try a smaller size
• Start with the outer cummerbund detached from the vest, take both sides and attach the hook portion to the front of
the vest’s loop platform. Attach so that the hook and loop is not completely covered (this will allow the officer to pull
the outer closure snug when ready)
• Next eye up the modular webbing row where the back portions of the outer cummerbunds will connect to the back of
the vest
• Eye up the spacing of between the front and back carrier’s outer wings
• If Panels Gap:
• Butting up – under 2”gap = go down one size
• 2” – 4” gap = perfect fit, proceed to address length
• 4.5” – 6.5” gap = up one size
• 7” & above gap = up two plus sizes

• If Panels Overlap
• 1” – 2” overlap = go down two sizes
• 2.5” – 4” overlap = down three sizes

• It is recommended that there be a minimum 2-inch overlap of the 6” x 10” ballistic panel over the back panel and a
minimum 3-inch overlap of the front panel. Fasten the back of the outer cummerbund to the modular webbing on the
back of the vest. Assess until you have sufficient gap between the front and back panels and there is enough overlap
with the 6” x 10” side ballistic panels
• Have the officer pull the outer cummerbund’s front hook and loop attachment snug and confirm comfort and proper
overlap
STEP 5 – Addressing Length:
• Ask the officer if the length is where they would like it
• Have the officer stand and/or kneel to assess/confirm desired length
• Assess length as needed utilizing the True Measurement chart on page 4
• Only the front length measurement is needed for sizing PROTECH vests, it is not necessary to measure the back length.
