The Jr. Auxiliary of Oxford welcomes you to our second annual Fall Ball.
We are honored that you have chosen to spend the evening with us and
support our cause. Jr. Auxiliary of Oxford is an organization of 58
women whose mission is to serve families and children in the
Oxford-Lafayette community. Junior Auxiliary of Oxford is a member of
the National Association of Junior Auxiliaries, a non-profit organization
comprised of 101 chapters across eight states. Since 1989, the
Jr. Auxiliary of Oxford has played a key role in identifying and
meeting critical needs in our community by developing and implementing
programs that bring about a positive change. The members currently
have eleven projects, and in the past year, we served nearly 2500
children. I invite you to visit our website, www.jaofoxford.com, to learn
more about our current service projects.
As a teacher, I see first hand not only the needs of the
children in Oxford, but also the direct impact our organization has on
them. We are incredibly blessed by the generosity of the community.
Through your ticket purchase and your participation in the auctions and
wine and spirits pull tonight, you have provided school supplies to children
who do not have any, a baseball camp for boys, an overnight camp
experience for fifth grade girls, a monthly art lesson for
kindergartners, a service club for high school girls, pajamas for kids who
don’t have a pair of their own, books for fifth graders and an
opportunity to meet the author- priceless memories, basic necessities,
and life changing experiences.
On behalf of Jr. Auxiliary, we hope you enjoy the evening, and we thank
you for your support throughout the year. Without you and your
generous contributions, we would not be able to carry out our
mission. Your donations tonight will change lives right here in our
community. Together we can build a better tomorrow!
Sincerely,
Joanne Bagley

Service Projects 2013-2014
Junior Auxiliary of Oxford currently services 11 projects in Oxford and
Lafayette County. Please take a moment to read through these brief
descriptions to get a glimpse into the impact these projects have on our
community’s children. Junior Auxiliary of Oxford is able to serve our
community because of your generosity and continued support.
Adopt-a-Family - The goal of Adopt-a-Family is to temporarily assist
families in our community in times of great need. JA provides clothing
and other necessities for emergency needs and at times provides
assistance with meals and utilities.
Art Print - Art Print introduces young children to famous works of art.
Prints of works by Van Gogh, Walter Anderson, Monet and many
others decorate the halls of Bramlett and Lafayette Elementary Schools.
Each month a JA member presents the featured art and artist to
more than 800 students.
Camp Bats and Balls - A one-day camp for boys in the 2nd to 4th
grades, Camp Bats and Balls teaches boys sportsmanship and
teamwork. The Ole Miss Rebel baseball team leads the camp. All are
welcome, but JA works with school counselors and teachers to identify
boys who may particularly benefit from this camp.
Camp Sunshine – Camp Sunshine is an overnight camp open to all area
girls entering 5th grade and is held annually at Camp Hopewell. JA
members serve as counselors and provide fun, fellowship, and
opportunity for personal growth.
Crown Club - Crown Club is a service organization for Oxford and
Lafayette 10th-12th grade girls. Girls participate in a variety of
community projects that JA currently sponsors, but they also craft an
annual project of their own. Most recently, their project provided
comfort item bags for the local hospital’s pediatric patients.
Health Leap - Through Health Leap, JA combined forces with another
charitable organization, Leap Frog. Leap Frog is an after-school
tutoring program for 1st to 3rd graders. Health Leap provides
multimodal education to these children aimed at teaching them to
lead healthful lifestyles.
Just Be A Girl - Through this project 6th grade girls hear from
inspirational speakers on a variety of topics such as self-esteem
and bullying.
Pajama Project - Each fall, JA works with counselors and teachers to
provide new pajamas to schoolchildren in need. JA also partners with
the national organization, The Pajama Project, to provide pajamas to
students throughout the school year.
Project Safe Seat - Semiannually JA coordinates with Safe Kids
Mississippi to host car seat safety checks at designated
locations in Oxford. If car seats do not meet standards the family
is provided a new car seat.
Stuff the Bus - Stuff the Bus is an annual school supply drive. After
determining needs from local school counselors and principals, JA
members solicit donations and utilize club funds to fulfill these needs.
Backpacks stuffed with supplies are then delivered to area schools and
distributed by counselors to the appropriate children.
Young Authors’ Fair - Each spring semester Oxford and Lafayette 4th
graders participate in their own Conference for the Book. JA provides
each student a book that has been selected by the Lafayette County
Literacy Council and a JA representative. The students then discuss the
book in their classrooms with JA members and are able to participate
in a live forum with the author.

Queen
The inaugural Fall Ball Queen is a charter member of the Junior Auxiliary
of Oxford and has spent her life serving the educational needs of young
people as a librarian and curriculum director at the high school and
college levels. As part of her commitment to literacy for children, this year’s
Queen served as committee chairman for Mississippi in the national “Focus on Reading” campaign.
She received the Outstanding Achievement Award from the
Mississippi Library Association and was named teacher of the year in
the Oxford School District and was twice named teacher of the year at
Oxford High School.
During her time in Junior Auxiliary, this year’s Queen launched
“The Art Print” program in 1979 at Bramlett Elementary School, which is
still an active project. She also was one of the originators of the “Young
Authors’ Fair” for 5th grade students in the Oxford
Community. Established in 1988, the program continues to be
sponsored by Junior Auxiliary of Oxford.
She has served as president of the Oxford Endowment for Public
Education and remains on its board of directors.
While currently working as a student teacher supervisor at the
University of Mississippi, this year’s Queen has continued her
involvement in shaping future educators, even after retiring from the public
school system in Mississippi, all while serving in leadership roles with the
Yoknapatawpha Arts Council and the Boys and Girls Club.
As a wife, mother and grandmother, the inaugural Junior Auxiliary Fall Ball
Queen has lived her life as an example of service to
children in the Oxford - Lafayette community and throughout the state of
Mississippi.
King
The inaugural Fall Ball King has spent his adult life dividing his
time as a physician, educator, community leader and philanthropist.
As an innovator in the medical field of ophthalmology, the year’s King
produced and was featured in the first internationally
distributed teaching video of Cataract and Implant surgery for the
American Academy of Ophthalmology. He taught courses in cataract and
intraocular lens implant surgery to practicing Ophthalmologists across the
country prior to the time it was taught in Medical Schools.
He has served as chairman of the board for Oxford Medical
Ministries and Oxford University School and on the board of
directors for the University of Mississippi Foundation.
As an active member of Oxford University United Methodist Church, this
year’s King is a member of the choir, serves as chair of the stewardship
committee and was chairman of the church’s capital campaign. He is a
Rotarian, has worked with the Oxford Food Pantry and is involved with
the Boys and Girls Club.
Through his time, talents and resources, the Inaugural Fall Ball King has
spent his life serving his patients, his neighbors and his family in the
Oxford – Lafayette community, the state of Mississippi and the
international medical community.

Thank you for attending Junior Auxiliary’s 2nd Annual Fall
Ball. Without you and the support of our patrons, we would not
be able to serve the children of Oxford and Lafayette County in
the capacity we do. Because of you, area children will benefit from
attending summer camp, getting a new backpack, or receiving a
winter coat. We are so thankful for your support of our eleven
service projects. Many Oxford businesses support Junior
Auxiliary’s efforts year round, and we feel so blessed to live in such
a generous community.
Much thought, preparation, dedication and time went into our
2nd Annual Fall Ball. We appreciate our committee chairs for
their countless hours of work to make tonight a success. We would
also like to express our gratitude to all of the ladies of Junior
Auxiliary of Oxford for their dedication, energy, and support.
Without you, this event would be impossible.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you, all!

of all those around you.” -Eileen Caddy
