EMPORIA
Made famous by the late William Allen White, editor of the Emporia Gazette newspaper, Emporia today is a manufacturing,
educational, transportation, trade, medical and cattle center of the East Central Kansas region.
The Emporia area, located midway between Topeka and Wichita on the Kansas Turnpike (I-335) and between Kansas City and
Wichita on I-35, is an important crossroads and trade area for the East Central Kansas population of approximately 82,000 people.
The amount of truck traffic generated generated from Emporia’s manufacturing community provides a competitive advantage on
in-bound freight. The amount of heavy commercial traffic is only second to the Kansas City metropolitan area. The Burlington
Northern Santa Fe railroad main line passes through Emporia. The Emporia municipal airport, with a 5,000-foot hard surface
runway, can accommodate most corporate aircraft.
Emporia State University is one of the finest medium-sized universities in the mid-west. More than 6,000 students are enrolled in
the university offering outstanding programs in education, business, arts & sciences, and library science and information
management. More information is available at their website at www.emporia.edu
