Contorted Filbert
For this weeks pick I am doing something I rarely do, I’m picking a plant that we only have 5 of.
This is one of my favorite plants but not because of how it looks during the growing season but
for how it looks in the winter. Be sure to plant this plant close enough to a window where
you will be able to enjoy it silhouetted against a darker back drop.
This is red leaf form of the popular Contorted Filbert. Also called Harry Lauder's Walking Stick or
Corkscrew Hazel. This small, unique specimen is best planted in a area with morning sun and
protected from winter winds. It's curly, twisted branching habit is very picturesque during the winter.
