The Battle of Britain is at its height and 92 Squadron Spitfires with Geoffrey Wellum in ‘G’ for George, depart under early morning sunlight to engage a mass of incoming enemy aircraft over the southeast coast. By the end of 1940 the Squadron was credited with having destroyed 127 German aircraft. Each print signed by Flt. Lt. Geoffrey Wellum DFC *Artist Proofs and Remarques also signed by the legendary Squadron Leader Neville Duke DFC DSO** AFC CzMC Primary Edition 250: £95 (US$166) *25 Artist Proofs: £120 (US$210) *25 Remarques: £220 (US$385) *15 Double Remarques £320 ($560) Squadron Leader Geoffrey Wellum DFC joined the RAF with a Short Service Commission in August 1939. He joined no 92 Squadron flying Spitfires in June 1940 at the time of Dunkirk . He flew throughout the Battle of Britain, later completing over 50 fighter sweeps and escorts over northern France and Belgium until August 1941. He then joined 65 Squadron as Flight Commander in March 1942 operating over northern France and flew off Aircraft Carrier HMS Furious on Operation Pedestal, to Malta. (Geoff was a Flt. Lt. during “Operation Pedestal”) He returned to the UK as a test pilot for Gloster Aircraft and finished the war as a Pilot Attack Instructor. Geoff was credited with three destroyed, four probables and several damaged and was awarded the DFC in July 1941. Squadron Leader Neville Duke, DSO OBE DFC** AFC CzMC began training as a fighter pilot in 1940 at the age of 18. In April 1941 he was posted to 92 Squadron at Biggin Hill where he was Sailor Malan's wingman. Later that year he was posted to 112 Squadron in the Middle East, where he survived being shot down twice by pilots of JG-27. By February 1942 Neville Duke had 8 confirmed enemy aircraft shot down and three probables. Then followed a second tour with 92 Squadron, flying Spitfire Vs in the North African campaign, before going on to a third tour flying Spitfire VIIIs with 145 Squadron in Italy. He became the Allied top-scorer in the Mediterranean theatre. Neville logged 28 combat victories, 485 sorties and more than 700 hours flying. After the war, rather than accept a desk job Neville joined Hawker as a test pilot. In 1949, delivering a Hawker Fury to Pakistan, he set speed records for London to Rome and London to Karachi. He went on to become Chief Test Pilot in 1951. On September 7, 1953, flying his famous all red Hawker Hunter, he set a new air speed record of 727.63 mph. As of February 2006 Neville, at the age of 83, still flies about once every other week, often with his 85-year-old wife, Meg, beside him. Winter of ‘41 by Philip E. Please don’t hesitate to reserve your copy before they are all gone for good. The interest and enthusiasm for our quality aviation art, from customers like you, continues to be our source of inspiration and motivation. We will always appreciate your custom and very much hope to be able to help you with your next Limited Edition Print or original oil painting selection. With kind regards. Approx. Overall print size 14” x 28” / 35cms x 71cms. This year also marks the 30th Anniversary of Concorde’s first commercial flight. After a lot of thought we decided to publish a Concorde print like no other! “Cloud Companions” has been signed by some of the most highly experienced Concorde pilots and will make a magnificent sight in anyone’s home. Very Restricted Edition. Early ordering Highly Recommended. 100 Primary Edition*: £125 (US$220), 25 Artist Proofs**: £150 (US$262), 25 Remarques**: £250 (US$482) and 10 Double Remarques**: £350 (US$612) (*signed by 3 pilots, **signed by 5 pilots) The Royal Navy's week long chase of the formidable German battleship Bismarck culminated in the foul evening weather of 26th May 1941. Despite the deck of HMS Ark Royal pitching through 55 feet, S/Lt John Moffat was one of fifteen Swordfish pilots who took off to attack Bismarck. After 90 minutes of arduous and turbulent flying the Swordfish found their quarry and dived through the intense anti-aircraft fire to drop their torpedoes. One of these hit and jammed Bismarck's rudder and condemned the battleship to sail in slow circles. The Royal Navy's own capital ships then closed in and pounded Bismarck into a burning wreck. This is only one example of the heroic actions, many of which have gone unrecognised, by Swordfish aircrew who flew and fought so valiantly for their King and Country throughout World War 2. Five Swordfish pilots, one of whom will be John Moffat - whose aircraft is depicted in the picture, will sign all the Artist Proofs and Remarqued prints. Other pilots will have been involved in attacks on the “Scharnhorst”, “Gneisehau” and “Prinz Eugen”, the Malta Campaign and one Sean Whyte pilot who flew Swordfish from converted oil tankers in the North Atlantic on convoy protection duties against German U-Boats. As the sun slowly begins to rise this wintry morning over Thorpe Abbotts, Norfolk, ground crew prepare B-17G “The All American Girl” in an almost surreal setting, for her 99th dangerous mission over enemy territory. On 10th January 1945, 19-year-old pilot, 1st Lt. John Dodrill and his crew went missing on a combat sortie to Cologne. Like many other crews, they made the ultimate sacrifice in the fight for freedom, with the ‘Bloody Hundredth’ Bombardment Group playing its full part with courage and honor.
