Each year, students from LPS join in the Premier’s Sporting
Challenge. Apart from the fitness and physical activity benefits, this
challenge provides some funds to go towards sporting equipment.
This year it has helped to partially fund new backboards on the
Multipurpose Court. The backboards have been installed over the
last two weeks. They will be keenly used!

After three years of wonderful service, Lynne Sharp has resigned
from the Swimming Administrator position. On behalf of the whole
school community, I would like to thank Lynne for her outstanding
commitment to the swimming program in our school and for the
efforts she has put into the Seahorses Club. We welcome Michele
McCarthy to this position.
Celebrating ROAR Expectations - Respect, Organised, Aspire and
Responsible
It always gives me great pleasure to see students proudly
accepting Silver and Gold Awards in assemblies as a result of
demonstrating our ROAR expectations. At last week’s
assemblies we had huge piles of certificates to present,
evidencing a high standard of behaviour across the school.
Well done LPS students!
Health Alert
Please be aware that a case of Scarlet Fever has been confirmed in our school. The symptoms are
sudden onset of sore throat, high fever and vomiting followed by a rash in 12 to 36 hours. Please see a
doctor if you suspect that your child has these symptoms.
Storm Damage
We have been very fortunate during the recent storms as we
have had only minimal damage. Some ceiling damage in the
Library, a fence panel pushed over by a tree, a classroom leak,
stormwater runoff, branches broken and the pool shadecloth
blown down, were the only issues that we faced.
Persuasive Posters
Students in 2R shared their talents with me this week as they
created posters designed to persuade. I am now convinced that I
should save the penguins and buy a frizzle!
Assemblies last week
Both 1D and 5G assemblies focussed on student wellbeing. 1D shared how they belonged to various
groups (dance, soccer, rugby, music etc) and how it feels to belong to that group. 5G students shared
‘10 ways to survive LPS’ and some tips about being a good friend.

SRC Visit to Stewart House
On Friday our senior SRC students joined students from Killara High School, Gordon East Public School,
Lindfield East Public School, Killara Public School and Roseville Public School for a ‘Leadership Day’
and a visit to Stewart House. Students met at Killara High School to begin the day with some leadership
workshops run by Killara High School students. After some morning tea (in a very big playground!), the
students boarded a bus to Stewart House in Curl Curl. Students were given a tour and information about
Stewart House. They learnt how Stewart House provides a 12 day stay for about 1800 students a year,
to provide them with a break from their current circumstances. During the stay they are provided with
dental, optical, hearing and medical screening and treatment. Children participate in educational
programs and excursions designed to develop their social and emotional skills, build self-esteem and
improve their overall well-being. Meals, accommodation costs, transport and entertainment expenses as
well as salary costs for supervisors, cooks, cleaners, laundry and maintenance staff are all sourced from
donations made to Stewart House. These costs amount to around $3.8 million each year.
Our school will be holding a Blue Mufti Day on Wednesday June 29 in Week 10 to raise money for
Stewart House. All students will be asked to bring a gold coin to school and to wear something
blue.

Athletics Carnival
Our annual Athletics Carnival for Years 3-6 students and Year 2 competitors will be held on Wednesday
15 June at Sydney Academy of Sport and Recreation, Wakehurst Parkway, Narrabeen. All students are
encouraged around participate in as many events as possible, regardless of their ability. The carnival will
begin at 10am and conclude at approximately 2pm. A program will be sent home later in the week with
the order of events and approximate times. Please note there will be sign out rolls available if you wish to
take your child home from the carnival. Any student leaving with another parent/carer must have signed
permission from their parents. All permission notes must be returned by Tuesday morning. If notes are
not returned, students will be staying at school and will join K-2 classes. Notes are on the school
website if a new note is needed.
Public Speaking Competition
Congratulations to the following students who have been chosen as class finalists for the school public
speaking competition. It was wonderful to see so many students preparing and delivering engaging
speeches. Popular topics including ‘If I ruled the world’, ‘How to successfully annoy your parents’ and ‘A
day in the life of a pencil’, made for very some very humorous speeches. Grade finals will take place this
week and next week, followed by the Years 3-6 Finals in Week 10.

Thank you to Antonia C and her mum Verena, who regularly
manage the lost property box. They spend their time sorting and
reissuing lost items to their classroom teachers. Please
remember to clearly label all items and check the lost property
box in front of the music room (beside the hall) if you have lost
something.
Kindergarten Excursion to the Farm
Kindergarten had a wonderful time at the farm on Friday. They learnt about all the different animals on
the farm, rode on a tractor, milked a cow, patted animals and saw a whip demonstration and how
working dogs round up sheep. We all worked away wanting to take the animals home with us! Thank you
to the wonderful parents who accompanied us on this amazing excursion!

Zone Cross Country Report
It was a very cold, windy and rainy day at St Ives Showground where 47 students attended the Zone
Cross Country. Overall the students did really well in all age groups with Lindfield earning 2nd Place in
the overall standings, out of 17 schools. This was our best result for the last few years. Thank you to Mr
Elsley and Miss Sorrell for their work on the day. Congratulations to the following students for reaching
the Sydney North Carnival on 24 June 2016 where they will compete at Gosford Racetrack:

INDIGENOUS PERFORMANCE K-6
On Monday 6 June, all K-6 students enjoyed the performance ‘Wadjiny’ by Troy Allen of the Bundjalung
Goori Aboriginal tribe (East Coast). Troy used song, music and didgeridoo, dance, artefacts, examples of
ancient rock and cave paintings and fire-making demonstrations to tell the stories of his people. Students
had the opportunity to participate in the dance and also speak in the language of the Bundjalung Goori
people.

Medical Alert Updates 2016
Please ensure all the children with anaphylaxis and other medical conditions, hand in their updated
action plans. Kindly ask your doctors to sign, stamp and date them. The school needs to receive a
coloured copy of the action plan for our health records. All students with a known medical condition

At Lindfield Public School in 2016, we have a small number of children with a potentially life
threatening allergic reaction. They are found across our school from Kindergarten to Year 6.
How can parents help these children?
• If possible, choose alternative sandwich spreads to peanut butter and Nutella.

LPS Orchestra
We are excited to announce that we will be forming an orchestra again in Term 3, 2016 under the direction
of Megan Lipworth in association with Adrian Mansukhani and Mark Stephens from the Strings Department.
This is a special and unique opportunity for students to extend their experience and musicality, culminating
in performances at the Music Assembly and Music Spectacular.
Orchestra is open to all musicians in Junior Band, Intermediate Band, Concert Band as well as the
Amadeus, Bach and Vivaldi strings groups. The first rehearsal is scheduled for Sunday 31 July. If you are
interested, please e-mail your child’s name, instrument & band/strings group to Mel Cleary at
lpso@bigpond.com by this Friday 10th June.
Election Day Cake Stall and Busking Fundraiser
The Federal Government Election Day is on July 2 and voting polls are being set up at LPS hall. In keeping
with tradition, and as our major fundraiser, band and strings will be holding a cake stall and inviting keen
musicians to busk on the day. Money raised is used to subsidise Music Camp to enable us to keep the
overall cost down. Further details will be coming your way soon ……

Thanks to everyone who has paid their fees for camp, along with submitting forms. We apologise for all
of the paperwork, but it is necessary.
For those people who have signed up to attend on either Monday or Tuesday, please ensure you have
completed the Child Protection documentation provided both in an email and also in the Lines. This is
mandatory.
In the next few weeks you will be receiving information regarding the Election Day bake stall.
Traditionally this is run by members from Band and Strings and monies raised go towards being able to
subsidise the Music Camp. We will be asking for each family to bake a cake, or provide some lolly bags,
to sell on the day. Any child who is willing to ‘practice’ on the day by busking is also welcome. There will
be information fed through your ensemble reps.

Dark stormclouds gathered and unleashed a fury of rain on House Lindfield last week as they prepared to pay
a friendly visit to House Turramurra North. Meanwhile at House Grammar in their well-appointed 'Science'
labs the following exchange could be heard 'Hocus Pocus Rainus Lindfieldus on Wednesday-us!' 'Um,
should be 'Friday-us' 'Whoops, we'll try again later....'
Round 5 of the NSW Junior Chess League Primary Schools Competition was played last Friday with all of our
seven teams in action in eight matches, four at home and three away. We also played some catchup rounds
with Turramurra North PS last Wednesday, after we escaped the sudden thunderstorm just on 3pm......and
the weekend storms were in no way related to magic.....
Wednesday: Lindfield A played Turramurra North A (away) for a win (4-0) (Aggregate 16-0).
Localised Lindfield rainstorms apart, another day at the office for our team, with Joshua, Jannah, Jeremy and
Matthew recording wins. Our hosts (their entire Chess Club is playing in the JCL, if we did that we would
have absolute chaos) were rather in awe at our team.
Wednesday: Lindfield F played Turramurra North B (away) for a win (4-0) (Aggregate 6-10).
A great win for our guys, as Griffin, Luke M, Vincent and Isaac in a most well-behaved trip (after we dried out
from the storm) ('Clash of Clans' might have helped....) good-naturedly rolled over our opponents.
Lindfield A played Sydney Grammar A (away) for a loss (1.5-2.5) (Aggregate 17.5-2.5).
Teeth gnashed and grumbling heard from the Bunker, as our team had a narrow loss to **those** people.
Joshua, Jannah losing their matches to opponents with similar rankings, Jeremy getting a reasonable draw
and young Matthew beating our past member Isaac. With this result we are equal on points with Grammar A,
but will now have to navigate the next two strongest teams - Grammar B and Knox A with no margin for error.
This season isn't 'over' - but will be close!
Lindfield B played Lindfield East A (away) for a win (3-1) (Aggregate 13-7).
Always good to knock off our old enemies as Kailash, Tom and Kian won and Asher lost his.
Lindfield C played St Bernard's Berowra Heights B for a win (3-1) (Aggregate 14-6).
The Wildlings from Beyond the (Hornsby) Mall took forever to come to us, arriving well after 4pm (traffic from
the Motorway to Pymble.) Good wins to James W, James L and Lachlan, while Jamie had to resign and go
off to rugby.
Lindfield D played Lindfield F for a win (3-1) (Aggregate 15.5-4.5).
Our D's continued their strong run, this time at the expense of our F's. Both sides were rather rowdy,
'Shhhh....we're playing a chess match here' was heard from the next set of teams - we assume some chess
was played. Anyway, James over Griffin, Tristran over Luke M, Bryan over Luke E and Felix gave one to
Vincent. Next week - the leading team in their competition - Wahroonga A. Good luck team.
Lindfield E played Newington A for a loss (0-4) (Aggregate 10-10)
Newington always play in Intermediate level and do reasonably well, and so it proved, as Lucie, Sophie,
Ameya and Consuela all lost their matches (Ameya getting close).
Lindfield E played St Bernard's Berowra Heights B (Round 6) for a draw (2-2) (Aggregate 12-12)
Our girls followed up with a game against the Wildlings (who obviously like playing in the dark) with Sophie
and Emily winning, and Ameya and Consuela not.
Lindfield F played Lindfield D for a loss (1-3) (Aggregate 7-13) (see above for commentary.)
Lindfield G played Lindfield East C (away) for a draw (2-2) (Aggregate 11.5-8.5).
Losses to Clinton and Jason, and wins to Marcus and Al.
Our thanks to Yang and Tina for doing the driving duties, Heather for taking on emergency driving, Debbie for
the sandwiches (the egg sandwiches are to die for) and our very well trained Chess Captains and cohorts for
looking out for the visitors (all eight of them?!).
This week Lindfield A v Sydney Grammar B, Lindfield B v Sydney Grammar A, Lindfield C v Knox B (away),
Lindfield D v Wahroonga A (away), Lindfield E have a Break, Lindfield F have a Bye and Lindfield G have a
Break. Kit kat time all around for the E's and G's, as they've already played their rounds....

LPS Fair Decision
At our recent P&C meeting a decision was made that unfortunately due to the shortage of volunteers and
time, the LPS P&C will not be hosting a fair this year. We will be looking instead at hosting a smaller event
around October.
National Tree Planting Day
Please save the date for our National Tree Planting Day which is Sunday 31 July. Join a fun
family day while making LPS a cleaner, greener place for now and the future. There will also be a cake
stall and BBQ to enjoy.

Social Justice
Kids Social Justice Group Request – Glass Jars Needed
The Kids’ Social Justice Group will be holding a stall on election day and following their ‘ideas’ meeting,
Samarra’s mum Oormila, who is an artist, has kindly offered to hand paint glass jars for sale. Therefore,
she needs some large jars (eg from pasta sauce etc), that can be decorated and then sold to store biscuits
or flour or other panty items. Please donate any you may have to the LPS office, but the glass needs to be
delivered by adults only not children please for safety reasons. Thank you.
Thank you and Good-Bye from 100% hOPE Choir
A huge thank you from the 100% hOPE choir which is now in western
NSW sharing their culture with rural Aussie kids. The warm welcome
and success of the 100% hOPE choir’s week in Sydney’s north was a
credit to the whole of LPS. It was thanks to LPS that the Hope Choir
came to Sydney at all and the whole northside tour was organised by
LPS social justice.
In the week of May 18 to 26, almost 5000 school children on Sydney’s
northside experienced Ugandan culture and heard the choir’s stories.
There were 19 performances at five different schools, two churches, and
even Chatswood Mall.
The highlight of the week – and the most successful fundraiser - was the
amazing night at LPS, so thank you once again to everyone who helped
out that night, especially the organiser, Social Justice Committee 100%
hOPE co-ordinator Sarah Rosewell. Thank you to everyone who attended
and gave so generously. (LPS raised $8500 – the previous record was
$3000 at Cessnock Public.) 100% hOPE founder Trishelle Sayuuni said
our kids helped the kids from Uganda feel not just supported – but
appreciated and loved.
When the choir’s founder Aussie teacher Trishelle asked if LPS would like to see
the choir, she also asked if our social justice committee could help find other local
performance opportunities. Frankly, a lot of cold calls failed, and all the places
who welcomed the choir were those who had links with past or present Lindfield
Public families.
I especially would like to thank Natascha Perera for her design work on banners
and flyers, Rusty Perera who raised $800 from local councils, Tori Grimes who
helped with church events and Sonya Willis for the introduction to Pymble Ladies
College which lead to free accommodation and many fun meals with the
boarders. Thank you also to all the LPS social justice members who worked as
Trishelle’s ‘roadies’ and babysitters and helped with other contacts.
Altogether the week on the northside raised almost $30,000, enough to build one and a half new
classrooms. This will support their education and gives those hard working and humble youth and their 106
‘brother and sisters’ back in Uganda, real hope and a brighter future.
