Plans for the 4TH Annual Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament is already in the works to welcome eight of U.S. Men’s College Basketball’s top teams to paradise. Noted as the richest pre-season tournament of its kind, the 2014 event boasts University of North Carolina (UNC), UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles), Georgetown University, University of Florida, (continued on page 3) IN THIS ISSUE… 2013 CHAMPS - The Villanova Wildcats started it all and ended it all on a good note at this year’s Battle 4 Atlantis held in the Imperial Arena at Atlantis, Paradise Island. The Wildcats started strong with a deafening 94 - 79 win against the USC Trojans and they ended it with their gut-wrenching OT 88 - 83 triumph over the Iowa Hawkeyes. The effort was a joint venture between Atlantis, Paradise Island and Wilton Russell, President of Street Legends. DeceMBer 4, 2013 Butler University, University of Wisconsin, University of Oklahoma, and the University of Alabama at Birmingham. The thrilling 12-game tournament will be held the week of Thanksgiving, November 26-28, 2014. Their impressive backgrounds include a combined 195 NCAA Tournament appearances, as well as 53 Final Four Appearances and 20 National Championships. they got to experience Battle 4 Atlantis and all that comes with it – a state-of-the-art arena, great food, fanfare and fast-paced, high intensity basketball. “We are really grateful to have the schools support,” says Atlantis Sales Manager and coorganizer of the B4A local student visit, adding that the idea was to get as many kids as possible exposed to a high level of sport. “We need them to be excited about sports and culture and we wanted to show them what they are capable of achieving in their lifetime…” In September, organizers began reaching out to schools and sports clubs to offer the special discounted rate. Responses came in from Queen’s College, Kingsway Academy, Carlton E. Francis Primary, St. Thomas Moore, Mt. Carmel, W e s t Minister, and St. Andrews schools. “We put a lot of effort into ensuring that this large number of kids was able to come to the games during school hours and on Thanksgiving. We worked along with many teachers and coaches and we hope that next year we will have even more interest from our local schools… even those students who don’t necessarily play basketball or even watch basketball had a great time!” B4A Fun Fact! A total of 9,080 tournament-goers attended games on Day 1 of the 2013 Battle 4 Atlantis PACKED ARENA - The 2013 Battle 4 Atlantis NCAA Pre-Season Division I Men’s College Basketball Tournament was seen live and up close by thousands of college basketball enthusiasts. Fans travelling in support of the Kansas Jayhawks and Iowa’s Hawkeyes made up most of the visiting crowd with Kansas bringing an estimated 1600 people with them and Iowa accounting for some 800 persons.
