INNOVATIVE RETURNS LOGISTICS ENSURES COMPETITIVENESS AND OPTIMIZES THE SERVICE LEVEL Case Study Josef Witt GmbH, Weiden PROJECT WITT, WEIDEN Project objective 왘 Reducing returns cycle times by using cross docking 왘 Increase in order-picking performance thanks to a „Goods-to-Man“ system 왘 Order picking with integrated labeling system 왘 Significant compaction of available warehouse space 왘 Maximum availability of returned goods 왘 Reduction of the error rate towards zero 왘 Improvement of the service level SCS control station Our scope of supply and services: 왘 Logistics concept preparation 왘 Simulation of the overall system 왘 Implementation planning 왘 Project management 왘 Schäfer Carousel System (SCS) 왘 Workplaces 왘 Bin conveyor system 왘 Warehouse management and control systems 왘 Bin identification with RFID Lifts transfer the requested goods from the carousel to the conveyor system Carousel (SCS) Quantity carousels Quantity carriages per carousel Quantity levels Warehouse dimensions LxWxH Footprint Loading aids Quantity storage locations Available space Quantity items Performance SCS, high dynamic storage system 25 68 22 70 x 16 x 4.5 1,800 m2 Plastic bins 600 x 400 x 170 mm 38,000 total of 5,000 m3 ø 350,000 up to 6,000 DC/h (storage and retrieval) PROJECT WITT, WEIDEN Ergonomic workplaces for peak performances with regard to efficiency and quality For the mail-order company Witt, SSI SCHÄFER planned and implemented a warehouse solution of a pioneering character. The integration of RFID technology into a warehousing solution, which is based on the innovative SCS (Schäfer Carousel System): 25 SCS carousels with 38,000 bin locations carry out up to 6,000 storage and retrieval operations. A task, whose IT-basis is performed by the warehouse management software „ant“ and whose bin identification is carried out using RFID. Data recording and the completion of data records, if necessary, are carried out within split seconds. The perfect and novel interaction of the automation areas of control, recording, and item flow represents a cutting-edge model for innovative future ways in warehousing automation.
