Both classes were full and we had a good exchange of information, everyone agreed we should have more hands-on sessions so we will incorporate those into next season’s offerings. During one of the sessions the group was discussing how long hydraulic hoses last and the consensus was 7 years, so keep that in mind. By the way, we do offer an Arctic Hose Upgrade if you are operating in severe cold temperatures. An interesting bit of information gleaned was from the Allison Transmission tech; if you need to flush the 2500 series transmission (maybe because you drove your Sno-Cat® vehicle into deep water). The procedure would be to drain the fluid, remove the external spin-on filter, refill it to normal dipstick level, then with appropriate catch basins in place run the engine until you see the new-fluid color coming out from where the filter goes, then turn off right away (2 man job) , install new filter and check the level. By following this procedure you will get all the contaminated fluid out, including that from the cooler. We have been doing LED light upgrades, if you would like a price then please call. The final thing I would like to say this month is to look at your leaf springs, make sure that have not flattened because that could change your pinion angle.” In reference to our Service Department one of our customers wanted to share the following: “We have our Sno-Cat® vehicles serviced every year at Tucker Sno-Cat®. The Service Department listens to our questions and concerns, takes care of them, and so we are always satisfied. They take the machines apart and put them back together using the same specs and settings as new vehicles. The advantage of factory service is they know what to look for during inspection and are aware of available updates. We also know they go through the same inspection program as new units and even look like it when they are done!”................................................ (Bill from Mountain Top Communications of Reno, NV) Tier 3 engines required us to draw intake air from outside of the engine compartment. Tier 4 engines required the same and increased sensitivity to blockage, in our case if snow was sucked in it could cause a fault. As a solution we developed an air diverter box so air would still come from outside the hood but could also be diverted to come from under the hood. This is currently being installed on the Model 2000 and 1643RE. Page 2 of 6 Tucker Sno-Cat® Corporation BUY AMERICAN 2872 S. This iconic Sno-Cat® vehicle, shown at the right, was one of four built for the British Antarctic Expedition of 1957-58. To update last month’s article: the 372 cu.in. V-8 Chrysler Industrial Hemi has been rebuilt, installed new window rubber (same glass), new seals in manual transmission and transfer case, aviation fuel pumps and senders tested, rebuilt starter, alternatorgenerator (24v) out for repair, installed new headlights, rebuilt the steering components and soaked all the tracks in special fluid (diesel). The schedule is to put the machine back together, drive it back into the museum until spring when we will continue on with the restoration. Meet Jeff McNeil, 4th generation Tucker Family and brother to Marcus featured last month. Jeff also started working for Tucker Sno-Cat® when he was 14, he remembers his first job as painting the shop floors. After graduating from high school Jeff went to work in the Drafting Department, then on to Purchasing, Parts and Service, and currently as a lead in the Final Production Department. Jeff has a special interest in the history of Tucker Sno-Cat® and so has been very involved with the Rock ‘n’ Roll project. He says two of biggest changes he has seen over the years are organization for customer support and constant improvements in the paper work process that we use to build the Sno-Cat® vehicles. Jeff and his wife are raising two girls; Shelby and Nova, (yes is a car nut) and three boys. Away from work Jeff enjoys flying RC airplanes, riding in the sand dunes and classic cars.
