Inan with Molly Goldman
Fall is definitely in the air and a
welcome relief after our hot
flashes in September! Dining
Alfresco for lunch is a perfect way
to enjoy those fall days. Brenda,
our Dining Room Coordinator,
will be happy to seat you on the
patio. Just let her know ahead
of time.
Thanksgiving Champagne
Buffet, Nov. 28 – Chef Le Roy
indulges our senses as his team
presents a delicious Thanksgiving
meal. There will be two seating
times for the Buffet: 11 a.m. or 1
p.m. Reservations are a must for
all guests. We can seat parties up
to seven. The price will be $25
for guests and $10 for children
12 and under. Please R.S.V.P.
with the concierge.
Annual Satisfaction Surveys –
On behalf of our entire team, we
thank our residents and families
for making the time to fill out and
return the surveys. If you haven’t
done so yet, the deadline is
Nov. 8.
Employee Appreciation Fund
– Our Chairperson for this year’s
campaign is Fran Severns. As you
know, tipping is not allowed
during the year. The holiday
season is a special time when
residents and families have the
opportunity to say thank you to
all our line staff. Your donations
will be distributed during the
Resident/Employee Holiday Party
in mid-December.
Resident Parking - Please be
aware Belmont aims to ensure
that designated areas for “Resident
Parking” remain open to residents
only. Many resident spaces are
being taken up by non-residents.
We ask for families’ and residents’
help on this issue. Please inform
your family and friends to be
cautious in checking the signs to
avoid parking in “Resident
Parking” areas.

News From Beth
Romeo, R.N.
Thanksgiving only comes
around once a year, so why not go
ahead and indulge? Because
gaining weight during the holiday
season is a national pastime. Not
the best idea, but there are some
compromises. With a little
awareness, you can treat yourself
to those traditional favorites and
be guilt-free.
Get Active: Eat less and exercise
more to prevent weight gain
during the holidays. Increase
frequency or lengthen your fitness
routine the weeks ahead of the
feast. Take a walk early in the day.
Eat Breakfast: Experts say
eating a small meal in the
morning can give you more
control over your appetite. Start
your day with a small but
enjoyable breakfast.
Police your Portions: Prior to
loading up your plate, assess the
buffet table and decide what
you’re going to choose. Then
select reasonable-sized portions of
foods you cannot live without.
Choose the Best Bets on the
Buffet: While each of us has our
own favorites, bear in mind that
some holiday foods are a better
choice than others. White turkey
meat, plain vegetables, roasted
sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes,
nonfat gravy, and pumpkin pie
tend to be the best bets because
they are lower in fat and calories.
Slowly Savor: Experts say that
eating slowly and tasting each
mouthful is one of the easiest
ways to enjoy your meal and feel
satisfied with one plate full of
food. Spread out the food and fun
all day long.
Skip the Seconds: Try to resist
the temptation to go back for
second helpings. You are less
likely to overeat and have more
room for dessert.

Employee of the Month October:
Karl M.
Donna, Karl and Mort
October’s recognition goes out to Karl M.,
outstanding nurse here for over 12 years. Born
and raised in Louisiana, he grew up as an
enormous sports fan and player. He has a son
who made it to college sports.
Both he and his wife have worked in health
care for nearly 20 years. You will often see him
chatting up with the residents and taking
excellent care of them. He is a “go to guy” at
Belmont. Thanks for your dedication, Karl!
Thanks for the
Memories
Frank Shultz Jr. was born in
Fairmont, West Virginia. He grew
up in this small mining town with
his parents, one brother and four
sisters. Some of his favorite
childhood memories were going
to the coal mines, where his father
worked as a miner. He also loved
spending time with his friends
playing marble games and
enjoyed family dinners. To this
day, he recalls the savory taste of
his favorite dish made by his
mother: stuffed cabbage baked in
tomato sauce and chocolate cake
for dessert.
After his high school years, he
joined the Navy, working as an
engineer. Being in the Navy was a
great time in his life, however, the
desire to go back to school grew
strong. Frank obtained his
Medical Tech Certificate from EIT.
After that, he worked a total of 38
years in the health care field.
Reading the paper, taking
walks, playing bingo, playing
black jack, and bridge are some of
the things Frank enjoys in his
spare time at Belmont. You might
occasionally catch him sunning
on the patio off Josephine’s
Kitchen.
He is grateful for the past year
and a half residing at Belmont
Village because he appreciates all
the hard work everyone does here
to give him a great quality of life.
Belmont Village is also a place
where his son and family love to
visit. Frank is glad that his family
likes coming to visit because he
considers this to be the best place
to live in the world! Thanks for
the memories, Frank!
Activities to Consider
Western Religious History
Are you curious about the
origins of Christianity? How
about the mingling history
between a diversity of Christians,
Jews, and Pagans in the centuries
following Jesus’ death? Adam’s
history class is changing in
subject, format and layout.
While exploring things like
how long did it take to put
together the modern Bible and
what the ancient Greco-Roman
Pagans actually believed, Adam
hopes to create a new
interactiveness with the residents
involved on their thoughts and
opinions. Give it a try: Thursdays
at 1:45 p.m. in the Town Hall.

Satisfaction Surveys
This month all residents and their family
members will have received a Satisfaction
Survey Questionnaire in the mail. Please don’t
let this sit around! The more responses we get
the better, and it is submitted anonymously if
you choose.
This survey is Belmont’s “Report Card” and
your responses, with good focus on each
particular question, are very important to help
us continue to improve. It lets our corporate
office know how you think we are doing. On
behalf of management and staff, thank you!

Podiatrist Visits
Darrin, Lucille & Norma
Did you know we practice yoga
in Circle of Friends? Yoga can
increase flexibility and strengthen
muscles, which protect us from
conditions like arthritis and back
pain, and helps prevent falls.
Additionally, when you contract
and stretch muscles, move organs
around, and come in and out of
yoga postures, you increase the
drainage of lymph fluid. This
helps the lymphatic system fight
infection, destroy cancerous cells,
and dispose of the toxic waste
products.
And if you’ve got high blood
pressure, you might benefit too.
Two studies of people with
hypertension compared the effects
of Savasana (Corpse Pose) with
simply lying on a couch. After
three months, Savasana was
associated with a 26-point drop in
systolic blood pressure and a
15-point drop in diastolic blood
pressure—and the higher the
initial blood pressure, the bigger
the drop.
Bob & Lillian visit with the Knights
Music Therapy is so much more
than making fun music! It truly is
a form of therapy, led by a trained
professional with a college degree.
A baccalaureate degree in music
therapy requires coursework in
acoustics, behavioral and
biological sciences, disabilities,
music therapy, physiology and
psychology.
After assessment and brief
discussion of a patient’s musical
preference, intervention begins. A
session may consist of only the
therapist providing music or of
both therapist and patient making
music together. This may include,
but is not limited to, the
following: Breathing to a rhythm
to relax and sedate; Composing
songs to express emotion;
Learning to play the keyboard to
improve fine motor skills; Moving
to music can restore a natural gait;
Using instruments to improvise
unspoken emotions; and recalling
memories associated to lyrics.
