A round-up of the latest travel news and tourism trends… In case you missed it, the hottest news in the travel industry recently is the pending merger of industry giants Expedia and Orbitz. If the deal is approved, the merged company will be the industry’s largest, controlling approximately 75 percent of the U.S. online travel agency market. So, what does this mean for consumers? As always, it pays to shop around and check multiple sites when searching for travel deals, including the direct websites of airlines and hotels. Many tourism organizations – including state tourism agencies and local convention and visitors bureaus – also offer packages and deals on their websites, making it worth your while to research your destination before booking.
