We’ve been on the lookout
all year for up-and-coming young
colorists age 30 and under, who
have what it takes to make it to
the top. Think of them as the next
generation of gifted colorists with
as much passion as Chrystofer
Benson, John Simpson or
Fabio Sementilli, and join us in
congratulating them for being
singled out by salon owners and
manufacturers, who recognize
talent when they see it.

{ WELLA PROFESSIONALS}
began working for Mario Tricoci in Chicago 10 years ago. Since
then she’s become a Future Professional Educator and an
Advance Skills Educator with the company. “I love color and
feel so incredibly blessed that I’ve found a career that resonates
with me,” says Jessica, who is a member of Cosmetologists
Chicago. Being open to change is key for this gifted colorist,
who is convinced that if you close yourself off you stop growing
and your art dies. Grateful for the mentors in her life, Jessica
believes that becoming an educator herself is a way to pay it
forward. “The meaning of life is to fnd your gift. The purpose of
life is to give it away,” she says, paraphrasing Pablo Picasso.

{ ALOXXI} was a
fresh Aveda
Institute grad
when he landed
a job as a stylist
at The Salon
in Ames, Iowa,
and began
working for a
tool company.
Three years
later he started
using Aloxxi
products, and
his hair artistry
truly kicked in.
So much so, in
fact, that for the
past two years,
Alan has been
creating stunning
looks with the
Aloxxi team
at hair shows
across the United
States. Perhaps
when you’ve
spent your life
sporting a thick
crop of russethued hair, you
understand how
hair color turns
heads. We can’t
wait to see what
his future holds.
➻ renee valerie wilson l{ TIGI }
was nominated by TIGI’s Richy Kandasamy.
U.S. Technical Creative Director at TIGI, so
we knew she had to have some serious hair
color chops. Based in New York City, Renee
is a TIGI Talent Colour Educator, which
means she travels all over the country
doing shows and platform work for the
company. Since starting her career in
Sydney, Australia, Renee has had her work
published in magazines like Oyster, Culture
and Hairdresser’s Journal. Now she can add
Te Colorist to her résumé.
➻ sara embry l { AVEDA}
is fortunate enough to work at
Jackson Ruiz Salon in Austin,
Texas, where her boss is none
other than NAHA winner and
Aveda Global Artistic Director,
Hair Styling, Allen Ruiz. While
working at the salon, Sara
was a member of the winning
NAHA team of 2011, and has
worked onstage at Aveda’s
Tuff Love Miami and Aveda
Congress 2013. “Creating art
with hair color is my passion,”
she says. “I love helping
people feel confdent and
beautiful with fresh new color.”
➻ alessandra marie minardi, h
{ WELLA PROFESSIONALS, BETH MINARDI SIGNATURE SHADES AND REDKEN}
has a pedigree most colorists would kill for—her Aunt Beth is none other
than legendary colorist Beth Minardi. “Growing up, we always talked
about fashion, art, books and hair color,” says Allesandra, who is also
inspired by her father, Salvatore Minardi, who owns an eponymous
salon in Madison, New Jersey, where she works. “He taught me to stay
humble because hair color is always evolving.” Her passion for hair color
may come naturally, but Alessandra understands that there is always
something else to learn. “I am intrigued by color formulations and new
methods of application,” she says. “When I color, I don’t go against the
hair, I go with it. I let it speak to me.” Sounds like she’s onto something.

in Chicago before she ever started
beauty school. “Painting and artistry
is something that’s been in my family
for generations,” says Amy, who
believes that education is the key
to success. To that end, she now
educates future colorists at Mario
Tricoci in a weekly class setting and
has been certified to educate for Wella

Gavin’s best advice? “Once you touch it, you
own it,” says Ciara, who plans to combine
her college degree and the knowledge she’s
gained working behind the chair to elevate the
experience of hair color nationwide.

ARTEASECOLORS has assisted Gerd Hoher,
president of Arteasecolors, on a number of occasions, and his faith in her has not
been misplaced. “I’ve learned more than I could have imagined from Gerd,” says
Vanessa, who works at Hidden Hairpin in San Pedro, California. The payoff for being a
colorist? “To see how even a small change can make your clients so happy,” she says.

➻{ WELLA

was nominated by Ginger
Boyle, who knows a thing
or two about fnding and
developing raw talent.
“I hire handfuls, and
Madison was a handful
at frst,” says Boyle,
who hired Madison right
out of Paul Mitchell The
School. “She’s defnitely
been a challenge, but
she’s a natural, who has
an exciting career ahead
of her.” Case in point:
Recently Lisa ShriverBrooks, who owns DIVA
Studio in Las Vegas,
visited Planet Salon and
couldn’t take her eyes
off Madison. Says Boyle,
“She has a lot of ability.”

As an educator she

says Jessica, who

{ OYA} came to Blaze

Salon in Coralville, Iowa,
straight out of beauty school.
Right away, her unrelenting
work ethic opened doors for
her, and she began attending
workshops with industry
greats like Geno Stampora
and Candy Shaw Codner.
Having attained master
status, Rhiannon has raised
the bar for all who work for
her, providing the support

sessions in cut and color,
spending afternoons and
weekends doing what she
loves best: working behind
the chair at the salon where
she follows her passion for
hair color.
{ GOLDWELL} is a colorist at
Plush Hair Studio in Glenville,
New York, where she is a
Goldwell Color Specialist
