Krupp hydraulic hammers
Krupp hydraulic hammers Krupp hydraulic hammers: What they are and what they can do 1963 – Krupp submitted the first ever patent application for a hydraulic percussion mechanism. 1967 – At the Hanover Fair Krupp introduced the world’s first machine-operated hydraulic hammer – the HM 400. 1985 – Krupp launched the first silenced and vibration damped system of hydrau- lic hammers under the name "Vibrosilenced", finally providing genuine relief for both man and machine. As a leading innovator in the development of hydraulic hammers, the company has been setting standards since 1963. 1995 – Further improvement and development resulted in the "Vibrosilenced Plus" system for even more effective silencing and vibration damping. Today’s Atlas Copco Construction Tools offers: 1998 – The "Marathon®" wear protection system, for improving hammer availability, was launched. In 2000 Krupp Berco Bautechnik is introducing two series of high-performance hydraulic hammers – the "Eco line" and the "Marathon® line". In 2002, Krupp Berco Bautechnik was taken over by the Atlas Copco group. HM 400 with special holder at work in a quarry – first put to work in 1968 and in operation until 1987, this fully operational veteran is now on display at the German Museum in Munich. 3 • Highly productive hydraulic hammers • Practice-oriented consulting on all aspects of the hammer 4 Technology for maximum economy Decades of experience and the latest innovations have gone into the design of Krupp’s hydraulic hammers, the following being just some of the features that ensure maximum economy: • Universal application • Long service life • High performance • High availability • Easy maintenance • Reduced strain on carriers 1 Higher performance AutoControl optimizes running characteristics, facilitates energy recovery and simplifies the handling of the hammer. features of Krupp’s hydraulic hammers are illustrated in this cross-section of an HM 2500 Marathon®. It is details such as these that make our hydraulic hammers unbeatable and give you the edge over your competitors. 2 Ready for special applications Standard port for forced ventilation, e.g. for underwater jobs. 2 Many of the carefully developed, practice-proven 1 3 4 6 3 Maintenance-friendly Service opening provides direct access for routine maintenance; the percussion mechanism can be easily removed from the hammer box. 4 Energy accumulation and safe start-up Due to integrated gas piston accumulator in the cylinder cover 5 Automatic lubrication With the ContiLube® II mounted directly on the hammer box; very simple handling and highly economical use of lubricant. 5 6 Easy on carrier The elastic suspension of the percussion mechanism in pre-stressed elastic damping elements prevents damage to the carrier. 7 7 Low noise emission levels No acoustic bridges between percussion mechanism and hammer box. Additional silencing optional. 8 9 10 8 Low recoil action reduces strain on man and machine Due to long piston stroke. 9 Optimum transfer of percussive energy Due to piston and working tool having virtually the same diameter. 10 Long service life of hammer box Due to use of highly wear-resistant materials for high-stress zones. 11 12 11 Long service life of wear bushings Due to DustProtector facility for effective protection against dust penetration. 12 Reliable working tools By precise coordination of design, materials and heat treatment. Inhouse production! Silencing and vibration damping for all Krupp hydraulic hammers All Krupp hydraulic hammers are supplied with "Vibrosilenced" carrier systems – including both the lightweight series hammers with hammer holder as well as models with a hammer box. 5 3 5 9 9 6 100 95 8 4 2 8 dB(A) 90 Hammer 10 1 Hammer 7 85 80 4 Krupp launched the first silenced and vibration damped hydraulic hammers back in 1985 under the name "Vibrosilenced". This involved the use of non-metallic suspension arrangements to isolate the percussion mechanism acoustically from the external carrier system. These arrangements prevented noise and vibrations emanating from the percussion mechanism from being transferred by the carrier system to the carrier and into the wider environment. "Vibrosilenced" achieved a reduction in noise emissions of approx. 8 dB(A) in comparison to the older, conventional carrier systems. At the 1995 Bauma show, Krupp introduced "Vibrosilenced Plus", a further improvement on the Vibrosilenced" system. By optimizing the shape of the hammer box and sealing all openings, a further reduction in noise emissions of approx. 8 dB(A) was achieved, i.e. perceived noise levels were once again cut by half. The diagram shows 10 the results of measurements taken all the way around a hydraulic hammer with the two different carrier systems. The differences speak for themselves. The impact of these developments is apparent on building sites everywhere. To prevent noise emissions causing long term harm to individuals, they must remain at the minimum distance at which the noise level is below 85 dB(A). 2 7 1 Vibrosilenced Plus Vibrosilenced With Krupp’s hydraulic hammers this distance is as follows: • Pre-1985 70 m • "Vibrosilenced" 31 m • "Vibrosilenced Plus" 10 m A variety of options to meet customer requirements are available for "Eco line" hammers (see pages 10 and 11). 6 "Marathon® line" hammers: wear protection system for high availability All the "Marathon® line" hammers are equipped with the "Marathon®" wear protection system developed by Krupp. This system prevents excessive wear on the hammer, resulting from: • dirt penetration • inadequate lubrication • excessive material strain during use. MARA THON ® The system consists of the following three components: AutoControl Note: Krupp hydraulic hammers with AutoControl switch automatically to a higher impact rate with reduced impact force when called for by operating conditions. For applications requiring only a high impact rate, AutoControl can be set accordingly. Prevents damage! DustProtector ContiLube® II Precise piston control and automatic stroke switching Dust protection facility mounted on the hydraulic hammer Automatic lubrication unit mounted directly on the hydraulic hammer A control system for adjusting the impact rate and force to a variety of operating conditions. (Application for DBP 19636659 pending) Two independently operating strippers prevent the penetration of coarse dirt and fine dust particles into the lower hammer part. (DBP 19628815 received) Mounted directly on the hammer, this unit ensures reliable, automatic lubrication of the working tool’s wear bushings. Effects AutoControl DustProtector ContiLube® II Smooth running Minimal wear of lower hammer part Minimal wear Energy recovery and high efficiency Optimal lubrication Non-stop use Reduced strain on equipment Improved service life of wear parts Simple handling Highly adaptable Maintenance-friendly Flexible use of hammer = Greater productivity = High availability = Uninterrupted production 8 Krupp has the right hydraulic hammer for a wide range of applications, as shown in the table. Moreover, our equipment is designed such that special jobs can generally also be handled without the need for extensive conversion or accessories. Hammers to suit all requirements Field General construction work Demolition For underwater applications, additional equipment such as compressed air lines and safety circuits is essential to ensure safe, damage-free operation. The corresponding conversion equipment is available as an optional extra. For tunneling applications, the "Marathon® line" hydraulic hammers with DustProtector permit uninterrupted operation, even in extreme dust conditions. Use in high-temperature applications, such as in steel or aluminum works, does not require any retrofitting. Where dust is excessive the hammer can be protected with a jet of air. When working underwater or in protected drinking water areas, Krupp hydraulic hammers can also be operated using environmentally compatible fluids and lubricants. Conical point for multi-purpose use As a manufacturer of hydraulic hammers it goes without saying that we also produce the appropriate working tools – they are inseparable and have to be properly matched. Flat chisel for rock-breaking and demolition work To ensure that the working tools are of the required quality, only special steel meeting our stringent specifications is used. After initial machining using state-of-the-art CNC production machines, the working tools are given the required hardness by a rigorously controlled heat treatment process. Frequent interim checks are carried out at all stages of the manufacturing process, guaranteeing constant high quality and impressive availability in use. Although it is not easy to generalize about which design, i.e. the geometrical shape of the tip, is most suitable for a given application, experience has shown that, in principle, only three different types are required: • Conical points designed as universal tools • Flat chisel with a crosscut tip • Blunt tools without a cutting edge Other special designs are available on request. Blunt tool for rock-breaking and reducing oversizes Working tool lengths For heavy-duty hydraulic hammers from the HM 1500 upward, working tools are available in three different lengths: compact, long, extra long. Our specalists will be pleased to advise you on the optimal tool length for your application. Leading experts in attachment technology The power for operating the hydraulic hammer is supplied by the carrier’s hydraulic system, and we have reached agreements with renowned manufacturers of hydraulic construction and earth-moving equipment around the world covering the attachment of our hydraulic hammers. As a result, many carriers now feature a hammeroperation facility as standard. Where this is not the case, Krupp can supply specially designed conversion kits for carriers, with specially matched valves, ensuring optimum utilization of oil delivery and operation of the hammer and carrier. Krupp hydraulic hammers are mounted on the carrier via an adapter or a hammer holder. These can be supplied for all carrier types, the majority of them from stock, while new or special designs can be engineered and manufactured within just a few days. 13 Typical applications 14 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 15 Krupp hydraulic hammers have been proving their reliability for many years, even in the toughest of conditions. 10 11 Fig. 1: HM 60 at work stripping out a building Fig. 2: HM 140 demolishing a silo for chemicals Fig. 3: HM 190 used for trenchwork Fig. 4: HM 230 at work on concrete Fig. 5: HM 580 used for primary crushing work Fig. 6: HM 1000 at work on foundations Fig. 7: HM 780 used for demolition work Fig. 8: HM 1000 used for pipeline trenchwork Fig. 9: HM 1500 at work on rockbreaking Fig. 10: HM 1500 demolishing a bunker Fig. 11: HM 2100 used for trenchwork in an inner-city area Fig. 12: HM 1500 at work on rockbreaking Fig. 13: HM 2100 quarrying Fig. 14: HM 2000 tunneling Front cover: HM 4000 used for quarry work Page 2 HM 4000 used for quarry work Page 7 HM 2500 at work breaking up concrete under water 12 Page 19 HM 4000 used for heavyduty foundation breaking 13 14 16 High quality manufacturing Krupp hydraulic hammers are manufactured by experienced specialists, • from high-grade materials • using state-of-the-art NC and CNC machine tools • temperature and holding times are observed with painstaking accuracy during the multi-stage heat treatment process • meticulous standards are applied to machining work • special welding processes are used for the hammer boxes, holders, brackets and adapters. Rigorous interim checks are carried out at all stages of the manufacturing process, while each individual hammer is subjected to a lengthy final inspection under operating conditions on a computerized test rig. The entire manufacturing process is subject to the strict regulations of an ISO 9001-certified quality control system.
