Galaans 2:20 says, “I am crucified with Christ, nevertheless I live, yet not I but Christ lives in me and the life I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God who loved me and gave himself for me.” Life has always been about the big “I” . Yes— it’s all about me, Lord. For some of us, we struggle with this but for others we just let it alone and connue to live our lives with the focus on “me”. This is the root of much of our problems in our churches. Church becomes about me and my class or my volunteer job and not about the one who gave his life for the Church—JESUS. One quote from this tract reads: “ Love of human praise, a secret fondness to be noced, love of supremacy, drawing a1enon to self in conversaon, a swelling out of self when you have had a free me in speaking or praying?” or another one says, “Carnal fear; a man fearing spirit, a shrinking from reproach and duty; reasoning around your cross; a shrinking from doing your whole duty by those of wealth or posion; a fearfulness that someone will offend and drive some prominent person away; a compromising spirit?” Friends—if these don’t light up your acknowledgement of sin meter there are 10 other paragraphs that will. This tract is called: “Not I, but Christ”. We will have copies available at the office for you. We have a lot of things going on in the associaon during the Fall. There are many churches having homecomings and fesvals. We have had ordinaons of deacons and pastors. God is calling men out to serve Him. The ANNUAL MEETING is coming up at Anastasia Bapst Church. An a>ernoon filled with music and message and a li1le business starts at 3pm. Get there a li1le early and hear Mason Reigger play his alto sax for us. We will have a SECOND PART of the meeng beginning that evening at 7:00 PM. In between, there will be break out sessions at 5:45, and of course we Bapsts will be eang at 5:05. Please feel free, even if you are not a messenger, to come and join us in the fun. All are welcome. Come out and help us celebrate all God is doing among our churches. See first hand, the hand of God working through our cooperaon together. Call me if I can help in anyway. Blessings! The one thing I have come to understand about the student ministry is it is all about relaonships, or the lack of one. I believe for student ministry to be effecve in leading young people to live a Christ centered life and to grow in their relaonship with Him, we have to establish relaonships with them as well as their parents. In order to build these relaonships it takes the whole church to be involved. There are three things that I believe the church can have a big impact on helping to foster these relaonships. First, is for church members to pray for the students. Our students are part of a great spiritual ba1le — a ba1le for their souls. We will not win this ba1le through be1er programs or be1er parenng techniques. God must work in the hearts of our children. So, we must pray for them, even as the apostle Paul prays for the church, that God may give them “a spirit of wisdom and of revelaon in the knowledge of him” (Eph. 1:17). Second, speak to the students. Ask them about their schools, sports, or hobbies. All of these things that we consider “small talk” are ways to enter their world and express love and concern. Through this small talk, relaonships of trust develop that can be vital as the child grows older and needs other people to talk to besides just mom and dad. Third, older adults can have a profound impact on the children in the church family by befriending parents of students. Many of our young parents did not grow up in Chrisan homes. They have no models for what it means to disciple their children or to parent in a godly way. Other young parents are o>en far away from family. These parents need someone to remind them that, even when they fail, God is sll at work caring for their children. Thank God that He has given us the church to be a family of God with the privilege of raising children so that they may get to know and grower closer in their relaonship with Jesus Christ.
