DALLAS-FORT WORTH METRO GOLDEN RETRIEVER CLUB
MEMBERSHIP MEETING & AWARDS BANQUET
MINUTES OF THE MEETING
January 15, 2012
Pappasito’s Cantina, Dallas
The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by President Dick Caldwell. A quorum was present with 26 members. Board members
present were: Dick Caldwell (President), Sherri Farmer (Vice President), Linda Miller (Treasurer), Kathy Felix (Corresponding
Secretary), and Janet Frick (At Large). Absent: Barbara Brown (Recording Secretary) is recovering from knee surgery; and Rhonda
Knapp. Minutes from the December membership meeting were not available.
OFFICER AND COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Corresponding Secretary: Kathy Felix read two membership applications: Shari & Kevin Curran (present – 1st meeting); Anuisha
Ravi – not present, but she attended the October Halloween Party.
Treasurer: Linda Miller gave a treasurer report. She reported that dues are due now, and will be considered delinquent as of
February 1. Any membership dues not paid by March 1 will result in those memberships lapsing.
Recording Secretary: Barbara Brown was absent.
2013 National Specialty: Sherri Farmer reported that everything is going smoothly. The trophies, made the cut and qualifying
prizes and glassware have been identified. She has contracted with the photographer, Malinda Julien. An application to receive the
$6,000 loan from GRCA has been submitted.
Hunt Test Committee: Donna Todd reported that the hunt test in April will be held at Pin Oak Kennels in Ravenna, TX (close to
Bonham). There is still a shortage of water on other grounds. Pin Oak Kennels has wells and pumps to keep their ponds full. The
Metro Alliance Retriever Club will be holding a hunt test at the same time. We will have Junior and Senior on Saturday, and our WC/
WCX on Sunday. MARC will start a Master on Saturday, and have a Junior and Senior on Sunday. This has all been approved by
AKC. She has obtained 2 judges for the hunt test, and is still looking for 2 more. She has the WC/WCX judges.
March Specialty Committee: Kathy Felix said everything is falling into place for the specialty. She has a list of trophies for people
to sign up for donations. Dawn Morrill reminded everyone of the raffle and asked for donations.
No further reports were given.
Charities: Rita asked if we are still going to support charities this year. If so, she would like to nominate: The GRCA Foundation and
Smiling Blue Skies Cancer Fund. She said Smiling Blue Skies is a cancer research organization in Canada that does great work.
Anna Curry asked if Rita would put the information on the Yahoo discussion group to give further information about the organization.
There was a discussion about the lack of participation in the photo contest. It was decided that we will promote it better for next
year’s awards banquet.
Dick presented the slate of officers as compiled by the Nominating Committee. Since there are no contested positions, he declared
the slate to be elected by acclamation. All in favor.

A little about Lyle: After competing with labs as an amateur for many years, Lyle turned pro in 2003.
Since that time, he has received over 1500 passes at Master tests and titled more than 100 Master
dogs in the AKC hunt test game. He has qualified a record 76 dogs at the AKC Master National
event; has 9 dogs in the Master National Hall of Fame and 17 dogs that have passed two Master
Nationals. Lyle also competes in the Super Retriever Series (SRS) and has 13 first place wins. He
made SRS history in 2011 by becoming the first handler ever to win three Crown Championships. In
2011, Team Castile qualified 12 dogs for the 2011 SRS Crown Championship.
