Little is remembered about
Mr. Tighe who died in his
early fifties.
Mrs. Tighe, who's name
was Beatrice was a colorful
figure in Howe. She was
tall with big black eyes and
always dressed in black and
wore black silk bonnets.
Her great sorrow was the
death of her beautiful
daughter, who died during
the flu epidemic of 1918.
Mrs. Tighe did not live long
after her death.

The Lady Bulldogs (8-1-1)
slammed the door on renewed rival
Van Alstyne by a score of 11-3 to
take home the GCEC tournament
championship. The only bump in
the road was a 2-2 tie with
Whitewright, who knocked out
Howe last year in state semifinal
round.
Howe started the tournament with
an easy 11-0 win over Ector.
Payton Streetman pitched three
shutout innings although walking
three. Erin Blackburn had a
double, triple and four RBIs to lead
the girls.
Howe then tied Whitewright, 2-2.
The Lady Tigers scored early and
led 1-0, but it didn't take long for
the Lady Bulldogs to answer as
they scored two runs of their own
in the first. The Lady Bulldogs
scored on a groundout by Peyton
Streetman and an RBI double by
Kayla Anderson. Streetman went
all five innings allowing only one
earned run.
allowed three runs over three
innings. She struck out five, walked
one and surrendered one hit.
Anderson went 3 for 3 as she
continued to swing the hot bat.
Hargrove then faced Bells and went
five strong innings allowing two
earned runs. Again, Anderson went
3 for 3 with 3 RBIs. The Lady
Bulldogs won 7-3.
The win over Bells thrusted Howe
into the championship game with
the home tournament team Van
Alstyne. Eleven runs in the first
three innings allowed the Lady
Bulldogs to put the game away
early and eventually win, 11-3.
A two-run double by Torrey
Stubblefield, an RBI single by
Emily Sanders, and a steal of home
by Kayla Anderson during the first
inning set the tone for the Lady
Bulldogs.
Madisyn Hargrove chalked a threerun homer in the third inning.
Stubblefield got it done in the circle

Bulldogs baseball starts 3-6 after
tough schedule
The Bulldogs (3-6) went 2-1 on
the weekend in the Weimer
Tournament and won the
consolation bracket.
"Offensively we took advantage of
Bloomington mistakes and jumped
out to a 7-1 lead early." said
Ognoski. "Wilson, Jaycob Miller,

Both Howe runs came in the fifth
inning. Brennan Ross led off with
an infield single and scored on a
hit by Griffin Underwood.
Underwood scored the second run
on a fielders choice groundball by
Triston Matthews.
Howe started with a 9-4 loss to
Grapevine Faith Christian and 115 to Flower Mound Marcus on the
first day. Thursday was sloppy
and Ognoskie said they didn't play
very good baseball. However, they
got progressively better as the
weekend went on. Reagan took the

Howe then beat Tidehaven, 11-0
for their first win of the season.
Underwood got the start and went
all five innings. He did not allow a
run; throwing only 58 pitches and On Friday, Howe lost to Dallas
striking out four.
Adamson, 6-5 and Sanger, 17-9.
"The defense was much better
behind him than in the first game
and we managed to back him up
with a few runs as well." said
Ognoski.
Ross doubled home Crees and
Peyton Reagan in the second
inning to give Howe a 2-0 lead.
The 'Dogs broke the game open
with four runs in the fourth
inning. Reagan walked and Nick
Wilson singled to lead off the
inning. A Ross sacrifice bunt was
thrown into right field scoring
Reagan. Zach Blevins followed
with a single to score Wilson.
Underwood then doubled into the
left center field gap to score
Blevins and Ross.
Underwood would double again in
the fifth to score two more runs
and Matt Griffin delivered a tworun single to make it 11-0 and
invoke the 10 run rule.
Howe played a district opponent
Saturday versus Pilot Point and
won,11-1 behind a complete game
from Tanner Hartsfield, who
returned from regional
powerlifting. Brennan Ross scored
three runs from the lead off spot
and stole two bases.
"We got multi-hit games from
Underwood, Reagan, and Griffin."
said Ognoskie." Carroll added an
RBI single as did Tyler Grisham.
Hartsfield brought home two with
a double in the fourth to help his
own cause. This was probably the
most complete game we played of
the season so far."

Howe finished the tourney versus

lost 11-8. Wilson started on the
mound and had a lead going into

Bulldogs win Bells track meet
Faith
by Debbie Wallis
“I am the vine, you are the branches.
If you truly abide in Me, and I in
you, you will bear much fruit; for
without Me you can do nothing,”
John 15:5.
When we first moved into our 96year-old home there was a pear tree
that was about 2 feet in diameter and
35 feet tall. It was so old and dead
looking that we almost cut it
down….until it bloomed and
produced the most pears we had ever
seen on one tree! The value of a
fruit tree is not measured by its age
or height but the amount and quality
of its fruit. The same is true for
Christians. The Bible often uses the
metaphor of fruit to describe what
our lives produce. Fruit can be
either good or bad as stated in
Matthew 7:8 and Luke 6:43. A
fruitful Christian will produce better
results: “The fruit of the righteous is
a tree of life,” Proverbs 11:30.
When you ask Jesus to be Lord of
your life, He came to live and make
a difference in you, through Him.
Page #8
That’s you abiding in Him and
Him in you. The harvest of that
relationship is sure to be abundant.
Separated from Him, you can’t
produce a thing of value to the
Kingdom of God. Anyone who
separates from Jesus is like
deadwood, gathered up and thrown
on the bonfire. But if you make
yourselves at home with God’s
word and allow His words to
change you, you can be sure that
you will show yourself to be His
child and produce good fruit.
Fruit is a metaphor for God
showing who He is through the
changes in your actions as you
mature as His disciples. The
motives of your heart need to be
continually renewed and
transformed in to the heart of God.
Your thinking will be more Christ
like as your heart changes to want
what God wants. This can only be
done by abiding in God’s word.
Spend time reading, studying, and
prayerfully meditating on the
teachings of Jesus and allow your
heart to change…your actions will
follow. As you step out in faith
and believe the promises that
Christ has given and obey His
commands, you will begin to bear
much fruit in your life and
influence those that you spend time
with to bear much fruit in their
life.
“You did not choose Me, but I
chose you and appointed you to go
and bear fruit…fruit that will last,”
John 15:16.
