Child Assault Prevention Program Dear Parents: Do you know how to talk to your children about staying safe?? CAP does. To learn more please come to the CAP meeting for parents Tuesday, December 11th 7:00 - 8:00pm Hillside Media Center Needham CAP is a program of Needham Community Council in affiliation with The Exchange Club of Needham Needham Community Council (NCC) 51 Lincoln Street, Needham, MA 02492 (781) 444-2415 ext. 18 FAX (781) 453-8806 www.needhamcommunitycouncil.org; cap@needhamcommunitycouncil.org ` November 29, 2012 Dear Parent or Guardian, During the month of January, Hillside School will be participating in the Child Assault Prevention Program (CAP). As parents concerned about the safety of your children, we hope you will join with us in participating in this program. CAP seeks to prevent child abuse by training children to recognize and deal with potentially dangerous situations, and by preparing adults in the children’s community - both teachers and parents - to help children in this endeavor. The program has three components: a parent program, an in-service for school personnel, and individual classroom workshops for children in selected grades. The adult workshops include information on child abuse, community responsibility toward suspected or identified abuse, reporting of abuse and crisis intervention. There will also be a detailed description of the children’s workshops. The parent workshop will include a discussion about the parents’ role in prevention education. The classroom workshop combines guided group discussion and a series of role-plays focusing on situations children frequently encounter: a child to child assault; unknown adult to child assault; and an assault involving an adult the child knows. Discussion helps children focus on self-assertion, peer support, and telling a trusted adult. Voluntary Review Time provides an opportunity for students to review and reinforce prevention information as well as discuss strategies for keeping their rights to be Safe, Strong and Free. The success of CAP depends on the support of the school community. Because we encourage children to share their experiences and concerns with adults, it is important for parents and school staff to be willing and able to respond to these concerns. In January we will be conducting classroom workshops. Please fill out and sign the permission slip, and return it to school. If you have any questions about the program, please call Michael Kascak at 781-4550461 Sincerely, Michael Kascak Principal _____ I give my child ____________________________ permission to participate in the Child Assault Prevention Program. _____ I do not give my child________________________ permission to participate in the Child Assault Prevention Program ________________________ (parent or guardian’s signature _____________________ (date) Get your Hillside SpiritWear!
