Greetings 300 Enthusiasts,
No fall meet this year, I am already lonely for my 300
friends.
Many physical problems have arisen with many members
it was just not possible.
Ralph Rees has invited all to Kokomo, Indiana June 4th
to the 8th 2014. Host Hotel is the Holiday Inn Express.
Indiana on the south end of the Great Lakes. Lots of
good things to do.
Such as, Kokomo Opalescent Glass, Elwood Haynes
Museum,
Kokomo Automotive Museum, Kokomo Chrysler
Transmission Plant
Haynes International, Dinner and a Movie at Summer
Place.
Bill and Marilyn Allen are sponsoring a meet in
Alamogordo, NM September 17 - 21, 2014. Host Hotel is
the Fairfield Inn.
Attractions include White Sands Balloon Invitational,
White Sands National Monument, the Space Museum,
White Sands Missile Range Museum, Old Mesilia (Billy
the Kid territory), Trinity Site (1st Atomic Bomb test),
Cloudcroft (8,700 ft), Ruidoso (7,500 ft), Inn of the
Mountain Gods, Spencer Theater, Sierra Blanca / Ski
Apache (10,000 ft), Holloman AFB (F-22’s, Predators
and Reapers) and pleasant mountain drives to view elk
herds. Places further away like Carlsbad Caverns and
Roswell (Alien Museum) are also options.
Looking forward to seeing my 300 friends at both.

editor’s notes
Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey, at their
best, could not top a 300 Meet coming to a town
near you. In the early morning, the Elephant Hemis
awake with a rumbling that sets off adjacent car
alarms. The Lion Wedges start with a deafening roar.
Antifreeze and oil are left in their wake as reminders
that these “beasts” mark their territories no matter
where they go.
Screeching tires and clanking rears are heard as the
“Beautiful Brutes” follow in tandem through the
town’s main roads until they reach their final show
destination to the delight of the awaiting spectators.
They are astounded by the beautiful sights and
sounds as the 300s parade and assemble in
alphabetical order to the aroma coming from their
downdraft tubes. This is “The 300 Circus.”
In addition to this special treat, in this issue, I hope
that you enjoy the new format and enjoy the new
contributors in Brute Force. The new cover celebrates
the racing heritage of the 300 Marque. Frank the
“Flagman” will be featured from time to time within
the pages of the magazine. You will note that he
smokes Italian AVANTI anisette Parodi cigars.
Merle Wolfer will continue in the capacity of Senior
Associate Editor. In the last issue, Merle and I
introduced color to the center four pages of the Brute
Force Magazine with Kermit’s help. This issue is
brought to you in full color as a one time treat.
From time to time, a centerfold 300 will be chosen
from submissions to the Editor. High resolution
photos of a member’s 300 must appear in the “buff.”
Nothing should cover the 300’s “Birthday Suit.” The
background should be as beautiful as the “Brute.”
Please keep your submissions coming for our
new sections. We are looking for members’ “My
300” stories and Tech Talk articles; Consultant
contributions for FAQs; and Vintage 300 Ads.

Letter To The Editor From Larry Jett:
Nice to see my barn-find 63 J-wannabe on page 7 of the
new, re-formatted BF.
Although I am but a student of the 63, rather than a teacher,
may I point out that the bumpers are not identical and only
the rear bumper from the 63 s also on the 64 car. If the bumpers were truly identical, you would not be able to insert the
nozzle at the filling station into the filler pipe. They may have
been shaped identical when manufactured, but somebody
has to cut out a relief mid-bumper for the rear application
which is not needed at the front of the car. In my opinion, the
63 is a cleaner design then the 64, particularly at the rear end,
but the 64 grille is the more attractive of the 2 years. Some

it was last licensed before put to sleep in a barn. Took all my
skill and determination to get the state of CA to re-recognize
the goodness of those old plates and make them legal once

300D won first in class and also won the Celebrity Award from Herb McCandless. On the way back to Oregon,
the car again won 1st in class at the WPC National in St. Paul. This is the car that was featured in Brute Force in a
series of 19 chapters about its restoration. The restoration was completed in 2013 and took about 4 years.

The House of Representatives of Pennsylvania recognized Bud Faubel’s achievements for numerous victories in Funny
Car, Super Stock and A/FX Eliminator Categories for races driven in NASCAR, United States Auto Club and NHRA.
He is also the recipient of the Legion of Honor and was inducted into the NHRA Hall of Fame.
This year, Bud Faubel was inducted into the Collector Guide Magazine’s Mopar Hall of Fame in Carlisle PA. “Big Red” is now owned by Jim Kramer who is having a full restoration done to bring it back to its former glory. Refer
to the Back Page for a recent picture of Bud Faubel with “Big Red.” Bud definitely has aged much more gracefully
than his old “Honker.”

Console Ashtray on 300-F is Broken
I used a 7/64 drill bit which is correct for a size 6 screw.
The front console ashtray on my 300F is in pieces I needed to drill holes slightly less than 1/4 inches so I

There are 2 extrusions on the front side of the bezel. I
ground those off smooth so I could drill holes where they
had been for reattachment. There are also 2 extrusions on
each side. Those I left in place but ground the chrome
from the extrusions so that they would fit into their original holes in the main body of the ashtray.
When the extrusion stubs would fit into their original
holes it lined up the holes in the housing so that the housing and bezel fit together as they originally did.
I planned to drill holes for screws in the bezel. So over to
the drill press where I have a small drill press vise attached
to the table of the drill press. The ashtray bezel has fresh
chrome on it so I can’t clamp it into the vise.

I cut a piece of wood that would fit snugly inside the
opening of the bezel and clamped it into the vise. Then
I laid a piece of cushioned plastic over the wood and cut
around the wood. With the plastic slid over the edge of
the wood it cushioned the top of the vise and I slid the

My 300
AACA Senior ‘56 300-B

I saw my first 300, a white ’55 C-300, in 1956 after my dad bought a new Chrysler Windsor. I helped push the ‘55
over a snowy curb into the front row on a car lot and I wanted one from that time forward.
I bought my first 300B in 1977 and drove it home to Memphis from Baltimore, MD. That trip was my wife’s introduction to my “old car thing”. We lost a muffler in Virginia; the resulting roar, terrified her that we might get arrested
in some small town. We made it home unscathed but the B had lower body rust that was much more severe than I
realized when I got it. I knew I had to get it repaired as soon as I could. In the early ‘80’s I found a Chrysler 300 Club
member who would work on the car at a “measured” pace (measured by my wallet), and drove the car to him in Jacksonville, FL. While a good start was made on the rust repairs, a series of events forced a halt and the car” slept” until
after I retired from flying in 2005. A second B, Regimental Red with wire wheels, had been purchased in 1984 and
was my focus in the intervening years. By no means perfect, but very presentable and a good “ten foot crowd pleaser”,
that car kept my thrill going and me participating.
I had become acquainted with Jonnie Slayton through club activities and took him the white car all in pieces. The
“reawakening’ was accomplished through his skill and persistence and at the AACA Spring Regional at the Charlotte
Motor Speedway in 2010 the B won its First Junior award. Senior status came the following year and the then the
Carmel combined meet was the follow on outing. What a thrill to do laps on Laguna Seca in this wonderful car. It
and my green ’69 300 were both enroute to attend the Nashville Meet, but a seized A/C compressor with resultant
fan belt destruction in a cloud of black smoke at 70 MPH on I-40, spoiled that plan and only the white B arrived.
I now have to get my red B up to the standard of the white one – without a 20 plus year wait !

Two 1956 300Bs, Both cars are restoration projects; guaranteed
complete, needing only minor body-work, paint, new interiors,
new chrome, and drivetrain & brakes rebuilt. Both come with mint
grills, and horn rings. With the spare parts I have collected for 25
years, both cars can be rebuild with all three of the prime factory
options of; torquflight transmissions (3 speed automatic) factory air
conditioning; and spoked wheels. Very few 300 B’s have all three.
Both cars have build-sheets. Both have valve-covers, pan, & batwing air filters, hot-tanked and sprayed with ‘chrome yellow’ primer.
I have owned these cars about 30 years and never got around to
restoring them. During this time they have been stored in sheds in
Alpine, Ca., at 2000’ elevation
Restored, these cars are currently being sold at a around $80,000.
INDIVIDUAL CAR DETAILS
CAR 1
Originally white. Partial repaint 30 years ago, parked when water
pump began to leak and the carb was not pumping. This car had
minor front-end wreck, and previous owner replaced the front clip
with a ‘55, and removed the ‘B’ engine. I have all correct front-clip
chrome for B and have bought the dual-quad set-up and batwing
for the car. They are installed on car currently. A ‘56 354 cu in
engine was installed by previous owner with the single carb. This is
an original Calif. car, with the original ‘56’ stamped license plate still
on the car: VERY RARE!!
Letters and emblems are no good, or missing. Can be had from
Gary Gores NEW. Original equipment on car: torkflite (3speed)
automatic transmission; standard windows & seats. Dash is worn.
Minor ding in L/F fender on wheel-well lip, and minor rust under
rear window chrome-strip on right side.

Originally white. Original body a rust-bucket. I have stripped
original car of all I.D. plates, drivetrain, suspension, and have a
very good ‘56 Windsor donor body to restore the car with. Body

I.D. and plates this is a #’s matching car, with Calif black plates on it.
