The mobility chain – what, when, where?
The main challenge:
energy revolution and change in
mobility behaviour
How do we move people and goods in
a region of constant growth efficiently,
safely and environmentally friendly by
everyday?
e.g. players
What can civilians deliver?
What can authorities deliver?
What can policy deliver?
What can economics deliver?
What can science deliver?

Webinar on Cycling Strategies – Regional Authority FrankfurtRhineMain, Germany
Example #1: bike + business 2020 strategy
Corporate mobility management for business districts
by implementing the private sector (firms)
- Motif: reduce private motorised vehicles on the way to work and
increasing the cycling share
- area-based approach: industrial estates, technology and industrial parks,
office and service locations with a high number of employees (get one
area, get all firms)
- target until 2020: 100 bike + business members in the network
FrankfurtRhineMain (current: 33)
- Key Aspects:
Integrated planning, intermodality, communication
Georgios Kontos, Regional Cycling Officer, RVFRM Germany,15/10/2015
Webinar on Cycling Strategies – Regional Authority FrankfurtRhineMain, Germany
Example #1: bike + business 2020 strategy
Pilot area: Gateway Gardens, Airport City
- In the Year 2021 there will be 18.000 employees commuting
- Creating bike friendly infrastructures and implementation into planning BEFORE all realised
- Integrating the local companies (Round Table on Cycling)
- The process needs a caretaker (better: asskicker) // in german: Kümmerer

Webinar on Cycling Strategies – Regional Authority FrankfurtRhineMain, Germany
In order to achieve our objectives we should keep an eye on….
1
2
Maxim: the human being has to come first, not the transportation!
3
Policy makers requires arguments (lobby groups), support (administration) and pressure
(private sector) for all decisions to be taken for this purpose.
4
Financing and funding must be secured and the legal framework must be developed
constantly.
5
6
7
8
Continuity and networking: It needs people on all levels who are committed to the topic.
Sustainable mobility in cities and in the countryside is only solvable with together, not
against each other.
Timely and intensive communication inwards and outwards.
Evaluation and research must be constant companion and inspiration for the practice.
Have endurance, show courage, learn to fail!
