The 8th race of the Northeast Georgia Run Series had the second largest
number of participants since the event
begin and reached a new record for
number of sponsors.
The event had 57 runners in the
half marathon, 66 runners in the 5K
race and 33 walkers. for a total of 156.
Sunny skies welcomed the participants
from numerous cities and states to
Meeks Park in Blairsville, Union
County, Georgia.
Barry Brown (Young Harris GA) ,
who has won the half marathon three
times, had a second place finish, making him the record holder for total
number of Top 3 finishes in the series.
Cody Decker (Orlando FL) won the
1/2 marathon with a time of 1:25:58, the
second fastest in the eight races.
Brown had a 1:25:49 last Spring.
Kim Bentley (Snellville GA) won
the 1/2 marathon in the women’s race
with a time of 1:29:12, the second fastest time in eight races. Alex Bitok
(Young Harris Ga) took the top spot in
the mens’ 5K race with a time of 21:13
while Lynn Pinyerd (Marietta) had a
time of 23:20 to win the top spot in the
womens’ 5K Race.
The event featured a non-competitive 5K walk and a 1-mile walk.
Union County Commissioner
Lamar Paris was the official starter for
the races and walk. The NEGA Run
Committee is Race Director Norm Cooper, Duff Conley and Karen Roxbury.
The race is a function of the Union
County Anti-Drug Coalition. Proceeds
from the event go to the UCADC, the
American Red Cross Disaster Fund,
Union County Recreation Department
Scholarship Fund, Union County Family Connection, Union County Meals
on Wheels, Blairsville Kiwanis Club
and the Blairsville Police Department

A NEGA Run Spring 2013 Photo CD
has been created with over 200 photos taken
at the race - including every runner and
walker crossing the finish line, winners,
and more.
The CDs are $10 each (if picked up in
Union County) and are $15 to be mailed.
